Pretty much everyone in our party of many Berkeley foodies agreed last night when we sampled 2 pizzas at Little Hill Lounge's pizza pop up with Jason LaBue at the helm last night...next level!!! He had this little grill set out in the cold; appearances too humble to imagine we'd then get truly unique combinations with a crust that blew our minds. I had bookmarked her food delivery service several months ago. I'm not normally one to use a food delivery service. Heck, not even for pizza. I prefer to cook at home. If I want to go out to eat, then I prefer to actually go out. However after trying a sampling of her food, I might just have to let Veronica do the cooking while I stick to looking pretty. We ordered up Quinoa Chili, Meatloaf, and Corn Bread for a family gathering of two Vegan folk and the rest pure unadulterated carnivores.. The chili was what I was most looking forward to since I'm partial to the humble chili bean. However this chili was legume free. Quinoa took the duties of being the main event in this dish. Turning it into more of a chili casserole or thick porridge. It was delicious and healthy tasting with just enough kick. A great alternative to regular chili. While I make a decent chili at home, my corn bread skills leave something to be desired. So I'm happy to report that her corn bread is light years beyond anything I've ever whipped up. Soft, flavorful, with a hint of healthiness. Is that coconut oil I'm tasting? Yum! I loved the meatloaf, mostly because it didn't taste like meatloaf. It had a flavor more reminiscent of stuffing. Which of course I am A-OK with cuz I love the stuffing! It had some tofu-y goodness holding it together, that gave it a meaty texture as opposed to just stuffing. A very interesting dish that I look forward to eating again.. Her portions are quite generous for the cost. In fact, a single person or maybe even couple could probably last a week on her meals for $40-50. The food is delivered frozen or warm depending on your needs. Everyone at the table had good things to say about her food. That's very important in this Benicia/Vallejo area. Her business isn't going to come from Vegan or Vegetarian eaters in this neighborhood. As that concept is relatively rare around these parts. I believe the bulk of her customers will come from those looking to eat healthier meals every now and again.
