This is a unique store to say the least, located in the back corner of a small mostly empty strip…read moremall, it's definitely not in plain sight or easily found if you aren't familiar with the area. A business associate of mine needed to purchase a few articles of clothing after changing his travel plans and wasn't interested in visiting the local Walmart or Bealls so we decided to check out this place since they seem to have somewhat of a niche business when it comes to offering name brand sports wear like Nike and Under Amour just to name a few - the prices don't seem competitive with the brand's outlet stores but then again you can get name brand clothing in remote locations, you can also get baseball gloves, bats and soccer balls. Seems like a good business model unless you're a stock holder or employee and you're worried about the 100's of store closings or lack of customers. We were the only customers in the store during this mid-afternoon visit, the only thing more empty than the store itself was this strip-mall's parking lot although it does seem that some commuters may use the available parking spots for long term parking. The stores was very clean and organized and the staff was very friendly and seemed somewhat surprised that we were there, to me it reminds me of a General Dollar Store only for clothing and sports equipment but much less busy. Not knowing much about the financial situation of Hibbett Sports I don't know what lies ahead for this company but from what I see, I don't expect these guys to survive long unless they have one hell of a online business and the revenue supports the big executive salaries and that alone may keep them open for sometime. They were founded in 1945 so they've been open longer than I've been alive and I'm just now getting around to visiting them so what do I know. I'd return in a pinch it's just not the kind of place that comes to mind when I think of shopping...

There was a young woman behind the counter (who used "like-uh" in every sentence) talking to a man who seemed to be a co-worker, or possibly a manager. She was telling him about the habits of another female co-worker. It sounded a lot like snitching. After spending about 15 minutes in the store, circling the merchandise several times, and receiving no acknowledgement from this pair ("hi" "welcome" "need any help?", etc.) or even eye contact, I left. Never will I enter this store again.

OK, I rarely do reviews and I don't like people that do negative reviews just for the hell of it,…read morebut I feel I have to speak up. I am a resident of DeLand and have used Steel Fox (SF) firearms before to purchase ammunition and as my local FFL. Every time I go in to the store, there is a negative feeling. I don't know how to explain it. I feel as if all eyes are on me and I am not welcome. Now, let me clarify, I do get this feeling at other firearms stores, so maybe it's just their MO, but it is amplified at SF. I usually let this go, and just do my business since they are close by and usually have the ammunition that I need. Unfortunately a little over a week ago I was prepared to purchase, not come in and kick the tires, purchase a Glock 43 for my wife. I called them, they had one in stock, I said "please throw my name on it and I will be right over". The girl said well, we can't put a name unless you put a credit card down on it. Unfortunately I was in the back 40 of my property and didn't have my wallet on me, but figured that it would be fine. I can't say that this is all their fault. You know the ending of the story....I drove to SF to purchase the firearm, and they sold it. Yes, I know 2020 is a weird year and firearms are going like hotcakes, but in all honesty she knew I was a serious customer and if she had any thoughts on it selling immediately she should have told me "no, sir you should really get your credit card and put it on as these are going fast". That was not said to me, I assumed it would be there and it wasn't. I get that part of it. 2020 is a strange year and nothing is in stock, and if it is,.... it's not in stock long. That does not take away the fact that the customer service at SF is lackluster at best. I feel they are extremely rude and not the least bit helpful when clientele walk in. People are always just standing around and staring aimlessly at the wall. It's an uncomfortable experience. The dog is the best part of my visit since she loves to come and lean up against your leg and get love. If it wasn't for the dog, the experience would be 100% dark and uncomfortable.

However, it's only $10 now that I have my own life jacket (saving me additional cost of $5 to use one of theirs, as required). Well worth the low cost for some soul-enriching, communing with nature. I have never made a reservation. I normally arrive around 10:30, most recently on a Friday. Parked for free on Baptist Camp Rd. Just a bit of a walk from there with my inflated paddleboard, but I don't mind the extra exercise. You can unload your stuff closer, if preferable. There are port-a-potties available. You can count on there being a line in the check-in office. Various recreation supplies are available there for purchase. The process moves reasonably enough. A reservation will guarantee your entrance, however, and possibly aide quicker personal info collection. I always plan to do the Emerald Cut in roughly 3 hours round-trip, allowing myself several stops to enjoy the surroundings. You do run into (quite literally at times) novice paddlers along the way, which can be a bit tricky, yet not a real nuisance for me. In general, there's friendliness along the waterway. Slighty rowdy, party vibes in some spots, but also opportunities for solace and zen in various nooks. Encountering wildlife, fragrant elderberry, and other captivating flora along this stretch is always gratifying. It's a popular recreation destination for good reason.

My Hubby and I love kayaking, so we booked an excursion months in advance for Rock Springs through TripAdvisor. Our Tour Operator was Get Up And Go Kayaking located at Kings Landing in Apopka, FL. I LOVE saying Apopka ;) The good news: Apopka is a quick 1 hour drive from Orlando. Make sure you don't miss the turn to King's Landing, because the entrance is located on a narrow dirt road. You must drive past Kelly Park (which fills up fast). There is a Park Ranger located here who will guide you to King's Landing. As you get closer and if you see a parking spot, grab it! Check in is located in the Cabin like office where you will have to sign a waiver. If you do not want to take a clear bottom, guided Kayak tour, you can either rent or BYO Kayak versus taking a semi private, clear, guided kayak tour. NOTE: ONLY use their Sunscreen/lotion which is provided at no cost. It protects the wildlife and the Springs. We wanted the full experience as we have previously enjoyed renting clear Kayaks. Our guide for the morning was: Megan, who was fantastic! Full of energy, information and helpful tidbits about the Springs and its human and wildlife inhabitants. Our group was small and capped at 10. We paddled through both narrow and open stretches, and stopped to swim in the warm, crystal-clear water. One highlight was a banyan tree with an 8-foot natural "jump hole"--such a cool experience! It was a serene, memorable day, and fun fact: this is the very spring featured in the Visit Orlando commercials! Yeah, definitely take a day away from crowded Orlando to relax and enjoy Mother Nature! You will Thank Me ;)
