Great place to find good records, they always have either a sale going on, or pretty awesome finds in the dollar bin. The only drawback is how far away the store is from my house lol. We typically spend about an hour or two in the store and leave spending about $30 on records. The location is very small, but they make good use of the space. Will definitely be back! read more

Groovy Records is a great little record store located in the downtown Deland area. Not only do they have a ton of Vinyl for sale but they also have a decent variety of CD's, Tape cassettes, and even some 8 tracks. Groovy Records also sells new and used turntables, guitars, basses, ukuleles, amp's, music accessories such as guitar strings, banners, other memorabilia, and a variety of instructional music books for piano, guitar, and other instruments. I found a few used CDs in decent condition (with original inserts) for $1 each, which is a great deal. I'm not a Vinyl collector, mainly because I just don't have the room to store them. One thing I noticed while I was here is that two of my all-time favorite bands, Mercyful Fate and Iron Maiden Vinyls were a bit pricy. I'm not sure if it's because they are from the original production during that era or if they are just hard to come by. Mercyful Fate's Don't Break the Oath is selling for $175 and Melissa is selling for $150. Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast is selling for $100. Damn, I'm a big fan, but I couldn't justify spending that much money on a Vinyl. Alternatively, not everything here is that expensive. They are selling many other great Vinyl's in the $10-$20 price range. If you are shopping in the area, I definitely recommend stopping in to see if you can find a deal. read more

I stopped by this music store recently and had one of the most unpleasant retail experiences I"ve ever had- all because I was carrying my 5Lb Maltese in my arms. Now to be fair, there may have been a "No Dogs" sign somewhere on the doors or windows , but like most people , I don't spend 30 minutes reading every square inch of storefront signage before walking in- especially when I am just holding a tiny, quiet dog and planning a quick visit. The moment I stepped inside , the owner practically exploded , No hello , no polite heads up- just pure attitude. He was instantly rude , loud and incredibly condescending , acting like I had intentionally tried to break some sacred rule. I was completely taken off guard. To make matters worse , he has a large , visibly aggressive German Sheppard , completely unleashed roaming the store. Apparently he has had issues with his dog being aggressive with other dogs entering the store because he immediately dropped to the floor to restrain his dog from attacking my dog while yelling at me saying "No Dogs Allowed "! This wasn't just bad customer service- it was hostile , unsafe and downright unprofessional . I came in with the intention of supporting a local business , but I won't be back. There are plenty of music stores out there that don't make you feel unwelcome , unsafe , or insulted the moment you walk in the door. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being yelled at and dodging unleashed dogs. read more

Visited Groovy Records after buying a new upscale stereo group that included a turntable. Going back to my roots. Small local business; very friendly even to new customers such as myself. Seems to have many repeat customers that I witnessed. Anyway they have a good selection and I like the rating system of music in stock. They have a program where you buy (I think) 10 and you get money off a future purchase. I had a chance to talk with the owner and you can tell he loves the business. Going back for sure. read more

Tre's nothing worse than walking into a record store and being surrounded by chaos, especially if you are in a hurry. There's a reason audiophiles alphabetize their collections. And yet most record stores in the region are the loveable, if not cluttered, result of someone's collecting gone out of control. At least that is how they look -- like an audio version of "Hoarders." Groovy Records, as the name implies, offers a chill atmosphere, friendly service and knowledgeable owners who obviously love their job. Best of all, everything is clearly categorized and easy to find without much assistance. They have a large selection, including highly collectible vinyl, in a wide assortment of formats and genres. Not seeing what you want? Proprietors Tom and Jerry will be happy to order it for you. Some items might be priced a bit higher than competitors', but so what? If you're coming or going from Daytona Beach to/from Orlando on I-4, don't waste your time getting off the highway for this record store! It's full of common titles in average condition with Discogs prices. The owner is a Boomer wearing Chuck Taylors and a Hot Topic band t-shirt. There's signs around the store that read "Don't touch records in this section" and "We'll be happy to help you view a record at the counter". I pulled out a $14 used record from its sleeve to check its condition and within seconds the owner was in front of me looking down his nose over his glasses and pointing at this small sign above the bin about not taking records out of their jackets. GTFOH! If you've got a rad Crosley turntable that you bought at Urban Outfitters and you want some more "vinyls" for your "collection", this store might be for you. If you've got more than 10 records in your collection and they're not all trendy classic rock titles and reissues, this store is probably not for you. I want the hour back that I wasted getting off the highway and going to this store! Save yourself some time and hit a proper record store in Orlando or Daytona Beach. read more

From classic to modern, across all genres, they have original pressings to rereleases. Music books: from sheets, learning and musician/band bios. They do have a large German shepherd. I had not been to DeLand in quite a while, but remembered Groovy Records, as I am a collector of vinyl and they always had a great selection at reasonable prices. Evidently the store has changed owners, or a drastic change has taken place. The prices are absolutely ridiculous. Used albums in fair, not great condition (ratings about VG -) have prices 4 to 5 times that of other record stores. An album that should sell for around $7-$10 are priced at $20-$30 Some have prices higher for used than new sealed copies. I saw 45rpm singles priced over $100 that were neither rare or even desirable to an avid collector. I don't know where these people get their pricing structure, but they have seen my face for the last time. I think they are delusional. read more

I can't say enough good things about this store. I travel extensively and found it by accident maybe 6-7 years ago. Jerry is friendly and very knowledgeable. Danko is just too cool (large German Shepherd) . They have a great selection with more all the time. Yes I think it started out as a used record store but they also have a lot of new vinyl. Jerry is very meticulous and grades each album. I come in with a huge list and start picking what is there and I pay close attention to the grading. I have bought well over 100 albums from them and I have been more than satisfied in every case. If you want to look at an album just bring it up to the counter. No problem. Jerry even tracked down an album that I thought was urban legend for me. I live in North Georgia so I don't get here as often as I would like to but I try to get by 3-4 times a year. Stumbled upon this shop today while visiting DeLand. This is absolutely one of the best record stores I've ever visited. The shop,is very well organized making it easy to find things. The owner is friendly and helpful. Having visited other record shops, I noticed this store has a particularly good assortment of older records (60s, 70s, 80s) -- and not just older material, but older material in very good condition. Yes, the prices seem higher than some, but that's because the records are in better condition than most places. Love the 15% discount for a Yelp check-in. Hope to visit the store again! read more

I am absolutely appalled at the behavior of the owner and staff. I was yelled at when I came into the store with my service dog. They told me to get out as they do not allow dogs in the store even though they have one behind the counter. I tried to peacefully explain that she is a trained and registered service dog and I was told to leave regardless. read more

My son and I went in here looking for the box set The Aeroplane Flies High by The Smashing Pumpkins. We asked the owner Gerry if he had one. He pulled one out from behind the counter. He didn't want to sell it to us because it was in rough shape so he basically gave it to my son. Some other reviews here were complaining about Jerry but he could not have been nicer and honest about the condition of the box set. Thanks again Jerry for great honest customer service. I would recommend staying away from this record store and visit Steve's House of Records down the block. At least there you can look at an album without the store owner repremanding you and telling you that you must bring the album to the front of the store where he will handle the record for you. Groovy Records is a small store as far as record stores go but it's full of vinyl treasures. You're greeted when you walk in the door by a large German Shepard dog who is as friendly a pooch that you'll ever meet. The fun starts at the first rack as Groovy Records that is jam packed with new and used gems from the get get go. The owner Jerry is as friendly and knowledgeable as can be on all genres of music. I always come back with something. What I like is that Jerry grades his records using Goldmine standards and he notes the grade on a sticker on the record, and he's always spot on with his grades. Now some of his used records can be pricey, good clean original pressings don't come cheap, but he'll play the records for you at the front counter before you decide and by golly it only confirms Jerry's discerning judgement when it comes to records. Grading used records on the Internet and in some record stores can be a very subjective thing. A record can look clean and shiny on a visual inspection but can be full of surface noise when played. In my experience I only trust and buy PLAY GRADED records and Jerry is as picky as I am. Groovy Records also sells new and vintage audio gear. When I go there I usually spend a good hour just browsing and always pick out a few gems. I live quite a distance from Groovy Records and don't get there as often as I would like but I know a good record store when I find one and Groovy Records is first class in my book read more

I drove here over an hour specifically to look at a turntable they had advertised. The salesperson was extremely rude and not friendly at all. I asked if we could look at the turntable, which was hooked up to speakers already and even had a record on it. I was told I had to come back in 2 days between certain hours to have one specific guy push the on button. We put back over $500 worth of merchandise and walked out, never to return again. read more

I don't think I could give a bad review to any vintage vinyl store and am just happy they are in business. Well organized store and alphabetized bins. Owner is always friendly to me. Found things I consider rare . Has a sidewalk dollar table which may have damaged covers with immaculate records inside [ not all some have damage -- dollar bin]. If you travel to DeLand you can visit two record stores. This one being the easier to find albums. If you are afraid of dogs there is a large store German Shepard. Gotta find more Ventures. As others have noted, owner is a total jerk. My husband tried to engage him with a friendly comment about re-releases of classics on vinyl and he just totally blew him off and seemed bothered. I came up with my purchases and inquired innocently if a piece of art on the wall in the bathroom might be for sale as often in record shops everything on the walls is for sale? (I had needed to to wash my hands after browsing the record bins as they were very dirty and we were headed to an expensive birthday dinner for my husband. I saw the restroom in back as the door was wide open and I only used the sink to wash my hands). I asked if the art was for sale and instead of answering my question the owner started to berate me for having the audacity to go into the bathroom with the wide open door. I said, sorry, my hands were dirty as the records were filthy and I saw the open door and just used the sink....Not good enough for Jerry who refused to even re-direct and answer me again when I asked about the art. He simply ignored me from there on out as my husband paid for the records. It was truly bizarre and awkward. The negativity of his interaction kind of put a damper on the restaurant birthday celebration for awhile. Not worth risking dealing with this jerk to go in there. He can have his little kingdom in DeLand, there are tons of better record stores I go to run by people who actually appreciate your business and interest in their collections. read more
