I feel totally "burned" by our experience with Outer Banks elevator today. They installed our lift in 2016 and have been okay in servicing it over the past 10 years. I called for an issue that was put in as a "service call", then I was asked when we last had maintenance. I agreed to having that done too since it had been a while. The tech David was incredibly nice and has been here before. His work amounted to about 20 min of time where the lift was raised a couple of times, greased and cables adjusted. My issue is how the office, specifically Nicole, handled our call to inquire how this very short visit came to $782.07 between three very confusing invoices we received by email. She was extremely condescending telling us to "calm down" and stating that we had to pay for the trip down here to Hatteras. Of course we planned on paying for the service, but we couldn't understand the 3 invoices they sent and wanted some clarity for the grossly overpriced fee for the service we received. Nicole could use some training in customer service because I bet if the situation were reversed she would be as confused and frustrated as we were. But, like the last person wrote there's no one else to service the lift here in the Outer Banks. All I can do is pass on my experience and hope that it helps someone else in the future. This company has totally lost its way. Wayne Chiselbrook, the original owner of the company, installed our elevator in 1994. Wayne was great and the elevator has been working great ever since, of course with the required upgrades and normal repairs along the way. Lately, the company has turned to bashing the customer as a way to deflect any criticism of its absolutely horrible customer service. Anything that goes wrong they blame you or someone else. There isn't even the slightest inclination to make things right. Appointments are missed because they forgot to get an access code in advance. Quotes aren't sent because they never received my email approval (everybody else receives it just fine). There's no follow-up. There's no proactive communication. My interactions with OBX Elevator these last few months have been the absolute worst customer experience of my life (save for the power company or the cable company). Unfortunately, there's a dirty little secret. Once OBX Elevator installs your elevator on the Outer Banks, there's no one else to service the elevator. If you want to switch out the service company, you have to install a whole new elevator. The other company on the outer banks (Atlantic Elevator) only services elevators they install.
