She still managed to communicate to me that they were having a 50 percent off sale on furniture and clothes were buy one get one free. They had a small selection of furniture, home goods, toys, art, small appliances, books, clothing, and accessories. It is tight in here but it is worth the time to really look around. You may find a treasure or two among the fairly priced items. Instead of adding to the landfills consider shopping and donating here. You can save money and give new life to gently used items.

Pennies For Heaven is a thrift store founded in 1971 and operated by the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The shop is run by friendly volunteers who raise money for the church by selling donated high end clothing and shoes, jewelry, accessories, men's clothing, household items, books, small appliances, golf equipment, books, children's clothing, and toys. The proceeds from all sales directly benefit the Mission and Ministry of Church of the Good Shepherd. They are a not-for-profit, so they do not charge sales tax. Pennies for Heaven is always having a sale. On the day I visited red tags were 50 percent off, red/yellow tags were 50 percent off, and blue tags were $1.00. The store is neatly organized and has interesting items at great prices. They accept donations of gently used items during our regular store hours. Furniture pickup is by appointment only.

To fund their programs including a food pantry and job coach program, they operate several thrift stores including this one, as well as Hobe Sound and Indiantown. I was surprised by how large and nice this thrift store is. Several rooms are filled with seasonal decorations including a large area of Christmas decorations, household goods, small appliances, clothes, accessories, kids items, large selection of furniture, and books. Everything was arranged artfully to give the store a boutique feel. In addition to shopping at their support stores you can donate your items at the rear of the store as well as give your time as a volunteer. Information on how to volunteer, their programs, and events are listed on the House of Hope website. This is a wonderful organization that deserves all of the community support it can get.

It was my first time in the store and they had lots of nice items. I did have questions about some items I wanted to purchase, but was never acknowledged the entire time. I walked through the store from the dishes, clothing, to the furniture side. One tall dark haired woman walked past me at least 4 times in the store but only spoke to my husband across the store a couple of times. I was very sad when I left the store. He told me so much about this store and I was excited to get there. They had a large selection of children's items which was great for me. Everything in the store was an additional 50 percent off. I was able to get two bags full of books, a twister game, stickers, balls for the treasure box, and some other assorted odds and ends for $3.50. The staff here was wonderful, so sweet and caring. If you are looking to score a deal, unload things you no longer need, and keep the planet healthy by recycling than come out and support St. Mark's.

If you make it past the cranky owner, and he agrees to take your items, expect an opaque process, no written receipts or copies of your agreement, and radio silence until you proactively reach out. Oh, and have your expectations of any money coming your way very low. You'll get 40% of whatever arbitrary price they put on your items, but of course this assumes they actually sell for the price that split was made. If your items don't sell, make sure to retrieve them prior to the mystery date that only exists on the shop's paperwork, or they'll be donated. All in all a great little store to shop in, but the owner and his approach kind of kill it.
