Review Visit: August 18th, 2013 Your stomach must have vacancy to visit Our Inn Place. After an afternoon exploring Pekin with my dad, we needed some food. He didn't care where we stopped to eat but I figured it would be a good time to try something specific to the area. I happened to remember this specific place from driving by it quite a few times when one of my friends lived in Pekin. What a perfect opportunity to check it out. We rolled up to a small building that had a bit of a diner look to it. The parking lot was mostly empty and made up of crushed rock if I remember right. Once parked, we headed in. Looks can be deceiving, let me tell you what. This place was rather large and open on the inside. It was a blend of a diner and an ice cream shack. I'm honestly not sure which of the two it is. Maybe both? The young man behind the counter took our order and we took a seat to wait for our food to come out. To be honest, I don't remember what either of us ordered. I want to say we both got tenderloins but that's not a guarantee. It does seem like the kind of thing I would order at a place like Our Inn Place. I do remember the food being pretty good despite not remembering what it was. The lack of photos doesn't help this situation either. I don't want to say my expectations were low but word-of-mouth about this place was nearly nonexistent among my circles of friends and the lack of people eating inside was in its favor. But yeah, a total surprise on being tasty. The location of Our Inn Place is a bit odd. It seems to be smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood. They probably get a lot of foot traffic of people living nearby stopping in for lunch or dinner. I know I would be stopping in often if I lived nearby. Maybe then I can remember what I order!

We stopped here after mini golf! We were glad to see this place open on July 2nd. The staff was great. This is a hole in the wall with drive in style food and ice cream. My wife had a cheeseburger plain and I had a cheeseburger with everything as a basket which came with fries and a side. We picked baked beans. We ordered 2 junior meals for a niece and nephew. 1 hot dog meal and 1 mini corn dog meal. We also ordered 1 cheeseburger with tomato and ketchup only for another niece. No burgers were available as a junior meal. The junior meals came with fries, drink, and ice cream! Can't beat this deal! Niece and nephew each chose mint chocolate chip ice cream cones which were huge that came with the junior meals. The soft serve ice cream comes with the junior meals but the other choices are suppose to be a 50 cent up charge. We didn't receive the up charge. We did pay for a small cotton candy ice cream cone for one niece. All the ice cream was a hit with the Nieces and nephew. The burgers were pretty good. The buns the burgers came on were just ok. The mini corn dogs and hot dog were perfect choices for kids. This is a good spot.

Regular size and a Jr size in the back, side of fries and pickles and onions on the side!

The dining area looks like it it would accommodate about 50 people (max) and the decor was retro with wood paneled walls and formica tabletops. Everything was clean and well kept. We were greeted by a waitress who was knowledgeable and hugely friendly. The menu was pretty expansive and the pricing seemed reasonable. We opted for traditional dinner fare, roast beef, mashed potatoes with brown gravy for me and she had turkey, mashed potatoes (no gravy). We both passed on the dressing that came with the meal and both chose rolls and a vegetable as our two sides. The cost for each meal was about $14. Add $3 for one soft drink (I had water) and the out the door cost was a touch over $33. About the food: Neither of us was impressed with the meal. After talking it over we decided that the best description of the meal was that it had been assembled VS. being cooked. My roast beef meal looked to have been slices of precooked meat, with instant potatoes, which was covered with factory made brown gravy. Her turkey meal looked like they were in fact real pieces turkey. The meat was small and looked like someone had chipped larger pieces up into bite sized chunks, with instant potatoes. Neither meal visually made you you go WOW! and the taste was forgettably bland. Overall, we were just unimpressed. Neither of us felt that the taste, quality or quantity justified the cost. I have fond memories of eating here with my mother and I was looking forward to rekindling those feelings and well....it didn't happen. Next time I'm passing by, I'll keep on going.

And we highly recommend a visit, especially if you are familiar with the brand! Like the BloNo location there are at least two entrances - the one further west is for a good sized hosting/ordering/waiting area while the one closest to the ballpark has more direct access to the bar area, but is way more space-restricted and will likely be a traffic jam on game days. If you're looking for a table, both entrances open to the rest of the cool 'industrial chic' dining areas in the form of a large street-level open concept dining area and a good sized split-level (up 3-4 steps) back room - which despite having wide entrances that make it feel part of the larger space, likely can easily be cordoned-off for private functions. One visit in and the lady and I (plus our friend and former Ptown bartender) can say that the food was every bit the same top-quality, large portion, methodically cooked and creatively accented sandwiches and wraps, served in old school pie pans with red-white check paper liners, that we are used to. The weekend special shaved ribeye Cali burrito was particularly epic, cementing what seems to be the first of the 3 or 4 things that keep the crowds coming back. The second thing is the creativity and discernment applied to bar side - in the form of the beer menu, which is initially focused on bottles/cans since they just received the liquor license the day before our arrival. Despite this there was a good mix of 'domestics' and at least 20 quality craft options from 6 or 8 fantastic breweries representing a good variety of styles but leaning like those at the original location - that is, a few more IPAs and 'sweet sours'. They also maintain a thoughtful and inventive cocktail list and will NO DOUBT start building up the whiskey/bourbon collection in the coming weeks. Although having high quality and fairly compensated employees helps immensely, the last thing that really drives their business is something we often say three times - location... In this case, it's literally less than a block from home plate. Easy to find. Easy to love. We'll certainly be back!

At first we were unsure because it's definitely off the beaten path, but we're SO glad we stopped. Stacy, our server, greeted us with a smile and gave us several great recommendations. They had multiple lunch specials and a surprisingly extensive drink menu. We kicked things off with the garlic bread cheese curds -- 10/10 all on their own! My husband ordered the Oktoberfest burger and I had the bourbon sliders. Both were hand-pattied, perfectly cooked, and not greasy at all. The bourbon glaze on my sliders was incredible. The beer cheese on his burger was hot, melty, and delicious. Even though we were already stuffed, we had to try the toffee butter cake... wow. A warm cake filled with cannoli cream, topped with gooey sauce and Heath toffee bits. Absolutely worth it. Service was 10/10. Stacy was super informative, answered all our questions, checked on us regularly, and even told us about their Shipwreck Bloody Marys and Shipwreck Shakes -- which we're definitely coming back to try. We will happily make the 3-hour drive again just to eat here. Highly recommend!

Review Visit: August 19th, 2013…read more Get your mind out of the gutter. We are here to talk about ice cream and that is it. Now that we established that, lets move on. On an evening during peak ice cream shack season, my friend Matt and I headed out to get just that. Having driven through Pekin quite a few times, I was surprised at never noticing this place. But, as my traveling ramped up, I discovered quite a few hidden gems that I drove past without noticing. Matt and I rolled up in the evening time, around the dinner rush time. The place was bustling, which was no surprise as Double D's is right off the main road that runs through Pekin. We got in line after figuring out what we wanted and placed our order. From what my memory recalls, I do remember getting our ice cream fairly quick after ordering. I believe I ordered just your standard ice cream cone with chocolate in it. Maybe it was chocolate/vanilla. Sorry, but I honestly do not remember. Matt got himself an ice cream cone as well. Looking at their current menu (as of 2020), it seems they have a menu similar to most ice cream shacks, if not lacking a bit on the non-ice cream side of things. Having only been here the one time, I can't chime in on how good or bad those offerings are. Now, I do remember there being a foam/fiberglass ice cream cone outside the building. One that you can take fun photos with and post them across all the social media platforms. Sadly, I did not get one during this visit. I do vow to get one the next time I go back... whenever that will be. Maybe it's just a Central Illinois thing but Double D's does suffer from being a small building with outdoor seating only. Not that that is a bad thing but if the weather is not in your favor, it can make coming here a chore. Also, due to these places being seasonal and locally owned in a small building, the parking situation can be tough. Luckily for Double D's, there is a large parking lot next to this location that you can utilize. Other than that, my memory doesn't have much else to say about Double D's. I do hope to go back and try their food again. You may resume having your mind in the gutter.
