Review Visit: August 18th, 2013 Your stomach must have vacancy to visit Our Inn Place. After an afternoon exploring Pekin with my dad, we needed some food. He didn't care where we stopped to eat but I figured it would be a good time to try something specific to the area. I happened to remember this specific place from driving by it quite a few times when one of my friends lived in Pekin. What a perfect opportunity to check it out. We rolled up to a small building that had a bit of a diner look to it. The parking lot was mostly empty and made up of crushed rock if I remember right. Once parked, we headed in. Looks can be deceiving, let me tell you what. This place was rather large and open on the inside. It was a blend of a diner and an ice cream shack. I'm honestly not sure which of the two it is. Maybe both? The young man behind the counter took our order and we took a seat to wait for our food to come out. To be honest, I don't remember what either of us ordered. I want to say we both got tenderloins but that's not a guarantee. It does seem like the kind of thing I would order at a place like Our Inn Place. I do remember the food being pretty good despite not remembering what it was. The lack of photos doesn't help this situation either. I don't want to say my expectations were low but word-of-mouth about this place was nearly nonexistent among my circles of friends and the lack of people eating inside was in its favor. But yeah, a total surprise on being tasty. The location of Our Inn Place is a bit odd. It seems to be smack dab in the middle of a neighborhood. They probably get a lot of foot traffic of people living nearby stopping in for lunch or dinner. I know I would be stopping in often if I lived nearby. We stopped here after mini golf! We were glad to see this place open on July 2nd. The staff was great. This is a hole in the wall with drive in style food and ice cream. My wife had a cheeseburger plain and I had a cheeseburger with everything as a basket which came with fries and a side. We picked baked beans. We ordered 2 junior meals for a niece and nephew. 1 hot dog meal and 1 mini corn dog meal. We also ordered 1 cheeseburger with tomato and ketchup only for another niece. No burgers were available as a junior meal. The junior meals came with fries, drink, and ice cream! Can't beat this deal! Niece and nephew each chose mint chocolate chip ice cream cones which were huge that came with the junior meals. The soft serve ice cream comes with the junior meals but the other choices are suppose to be a 50 cent up charge. We didn't receive the up charge. We did pay for a small cotton candy ice cream cone for one niece. All the ice cream was a hit with the Nieces and nephew. The burgers were pretty good. The buns the burgers came on were just ok. The mini corn dogs and hot dog were perfect choices for kids. This is a good spot. read more

Coleslaw and baked beans each served in 3 oz styrofoam cups. Baked beans were dumped from a can with no seasoning. Coleslaw almost had a sour taste. My wife got the catfish which was very good , however the fries were cold, I got the Chicken sandwhich didn't taste good for whatever reason , my fries also were cold , and the $5 for 3 scoops of ice cream was freezer burned I would assume from the fact they kept open where the ice cream scoops were kept to place in the Delivery orders thus melting and re-freezing the ice cream.. My SO and I dropped in for a quick evening meal. Two regular tenderloins, two medium soft drinks, and one order of fries. Total cost $19.75. I'm giving Our Inn Place restaurant 5 stars. I base that on what is promised versus what is delivered. Simply meeting expectations earns 3 stars exceeding my expectations equals more stars and vice versa. How does Our Inn Place excel? Here's how: 1. Cost compared to quality and quantity of food. The tenderloins are hand made on the premises. There are three sizes (junior, regular and jumbo) of tenderloins. The regular comes on a 6 inch bun and overhangs the bun by at least 1 inch all the way around. They use a cornmeal (ish) breading which is lightly seasoned and deep fried to a golden brown. The pork meat is pounded out thin enough to come out of the fryer crisp but not so thin as to be dry. The french fries are a small pixie cut and one order was sufficient for the two of us. Drinks have free refills. 2. Clean and well attractive dining area. Decor is kind of based on a 50's malt shoppe. The tables and booths reflect that era along with 45 RPM records and posters hung on the walls. Everything in the dining are was clean neat and well lit. 3. Friendliness. Everyone I encountered was pleasant and engaged me by asking how things were going and did we need anything else. Lots of smiles. Both the wife and I agreed that this would not be our last visit. Maybe next time I'll try a shake made from the hand dipped ice cream (12 flavors) or some soft serve. read more

Loved the atmosphere and the food , the food is for sure comfort food when it's in the type of setting they have (old diner set up) the place is very Clean. Great for families to go eat at. They have a really neat photo album to check out while you're there full of comics a regular draws each time he comes in on napkins . We have been to Our Inn Place twice now in the past couple of months. Don't expect a fine dining experience. It is an "order at the counter ... food delivered to your table" kind of place. We've tried the catfish, tenderloin, and shrimp. The catfish and tenderloin were great! The shrimp was pretty good. The young people working there are surprisingly polite and helpful. While ordering, we mentioned that we were going to sit outside at the picnic table, and he wiped down the picnic table for us without us asking. The ice cream they have there was pretty good, have had better. Prices are very reasonable. Again, it's not a place to impress your date. But for an inexpensive dinner out, we will be back. read more

I've been eating breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches since I was a kid in Des Moines in the 50's. My all-time favorites were Millie's Drive-In in Des Moines and The Penguin in Peoria Heights, both long out of business. I have a new favorite now: Our Inn Place in Pekin. I left Iowa in 1969, but I never visit Iowa or Illinois without having this Midwest delicacy. I live in Las Vegas now. A few months ago, at a poker table, I was chatting with Dan Topping, owner of Our Inn Place, as poker players waiting for a good hand will do. We had quite a bit to talk about, including that my mother lived in Pekin as a child, that most of my family lives in Peoria, and that we both have a special fondness for breaded pork tenderloins. Dan said he would bring me a few when he next came to Las Vegas. In a show of Midwestern character, he did exactly that, delivering the frozen treasure in a container of ice. The breaded pork tenderloins are really delicious! I'll be they are even better cooked by a professional with appropriate kitchen equipment. I've not been to the restaurant yet, but I can vouch for the tenderloins. I'll get to the restaurant on my next trip to Peoria, and in the meantime have urged my sister to check it out. read more

My husband and I got the pony and horseshoe for breakfast along with an order of biscuits and gravy. For $17.00, neither of us could hardly eat it. The pony and horseshoe were so salty we couldn't barely eat it. The biscuits and gravy were not made right at all, unless you love to eat flour.
