Heads up there is a change at Otto car tech shop 1. Counter guy Jorge no longer works there. 2. When they give you a total of cost for your vehicle it goes up $12.00 more if you pay by credit/debit card the card card device they are now using charges $12.00 more. So if you can and you don't want to pay the $12.00, pay cash. 3. The counter clerk is not a very good clerk He will give you one price over the phone, then when you go to pay it's a different price, he also doesn't tell you about the extra fee for using the credit card device. So beware always call and talk to Otto, he'll give it to you straight and ask him about the credit card device and the fee for it. You have been warn! Otto's replaced my fuel pump, misplaced the pump seal(confirmed by another mechanic) which caused a leak and multiple dash lights to come on, and then they refused to take a look at it unless I pay them a diagnostic fee. If I could give 0 stars, I would. We went in for one repair, were quoted a price, but ended up being charged for work we never asked for. To make it worse, the part we originally needed would have cost less than what they did. Instead of resolving the issue, the so-called manager came out defensive and ended up kicking us out of the shop when all we wanted were answers. We didn't even ask for a refund, just clarification. They offered a check refund after we had paid cash--another red flag. This place is unprofessional and shady. First and last time we'll ever come here. If you do risk bringing your vehicle, take photos, get everything in writing, and double-check your bill before paying. Don't trust what they "say" as a quote. read more

These will not steer you wrong. I got my oil changed and had a check engine light. Ultimately they recommended taking the vehicle to the dealer because the parts weren't readily available, but they did give me some great advice. This information is misleading: "Yelpers report this location has closed." Otto's Car Tech has been doing business for quite awhile now at 2010 South Pacific Avenue in San Pedro. I have received outstanding service on two vehicles for a very reasonable price. I appreciate that along with an oil and filter change Otto's does a 44-point inspection and tire rotation for no extra charge. George and Otto were both courteous and friendly. They allowed me to provide my own oil and filter. They offered a ride to my home a couple miles away, but I didn't mind waiting. I could tell from the conversations they were having with other customers that they are good communicators and very supportive of their customers' needs. Highly recommended! read more

A year later and I'm still with Otto. Recently got my brakes and rotors done with a transmission fluid flush (17 GMC Sierra). Preventative maintenance is the best maintenance and Otto pays attention to details. He gives you what you need and doesn't BS or upsell you. I've been going to Otto's for a few years now, and was always happy with their service. Then I brought my car in because it was skipping just a little at high speeds, and was told it needed new plugs. Then they said one of the spark plugs shattered on taking it out, and when they gave it back, three days later, it was running on only three cylinders with the check engine lights on. I thought the reviews indicated this place wouldn't be a bad choice but I've had issues arise right after taking my car here twice. The second time I picked up my car there were grease prints all over the outside and my alarm system wiring was tampered with hence now having issues with locked doors. These guys replaced my radiator and battery on separate occasions when my car started having issues while visiting the area. They didn't try to overcharge me for anything, were friendly, told me exactly what needed to be fixed and why, and were relatively affordable. I have a 2004, Ford F250 Super Duty, V10, 6.8L Truck with 181,000 miles. A week ago I noticed a slight grinding noise starting, by the end of the week it had gotten considerably worse. My wife has a 7:30 in the morning appointment on Monday for her first ever colonoscopy. It's two o'clock, Friday afternoon, I need a mechanic close to the house. I had read a lot of wonderful reviews about OTTO'S Car Repair in San Pedro about a mile from where I live, so I called. A friendly voice answered and asked how can I help you?. So I explained my situation and how I absolutely needed the truck to be fixed on Saturday so I could get my wife to her medical procedure Monday AM. He told me bring the truck in at 8 AM and we can do the job. I thanked him and asked for his name, OTTO, he replied. I felt a HUGE sense of relief knowing that the Owner was telling me this. Old fashion Service is just one of the many perks of taking your vehicle there. George greeted us the next morning with a smile and hand shake, apparently OTTO had left message that I was coming in, and they were ready to start. We walked down to Rex's Café for breakfast, while they put the truck up to look at the brakes. When we came back 45 minutes later, George said, can I show you what the problem is. He showed us both front and rear brakes and explained that the problem was actually with the rear brakes and rotors and they needed replacement. The fronts were fine. He gave me a price, which was comparable with other quotes I had gotten throughout the week. Then I asked for a ride home and "BAM" we home in less then 10 minutes. Thank you Jacob for getting us home safely and when the truck is ready they are going to pick us up and bring us BACK to the repair shop!!!! Fantastic Customer Service! Also, most areas are clean, uncluttered and have 2 large TV's in the waiting area. I'm giving 5 Star's today because they earned it and my loyal support. This place is our new go-to for car repair. Super nice on the phone and in person. My car died while pulling in the lot but they were very accommodating and didn't charge anything extra for charging/moving it. I was able to save a little bit of cash by exchanging the battery that we had just purchased at Costo and dropping that off onsite. Altogether it was $600 after taxes, a new alternator and they did everything within a day. We're definitely coming back. read more

A wonderful find! My 2005CRV Honda developed an electrical problem and while driving in San Pedro in my wife's car I happened on Otto's shop. Derek invited me to bring the CRV in and he'd sort it out. With the help of a friend and some jumper cable's I got the car to Derek. He could find no problem - no charge - and I drove it home. Next day it was dead again. Derek made a house call to pick up my car. He gave me a probable cost of $150 (no charge for diagnostics and no mention of the house all.) Two days later my car was ready to go. Electrical system now A-O.K. Price: $123 (less than the quote!) Along with my paperwork, he gave me a large bar of chocolate (a common thank to to his new customers.) I was blown away by the excellent service, honesty and great attitude. I was referred to Otto's Auto Tech by another shop. Otto did extensive work on my car and never discussed the repairs or bill with me. When I went to pick the car up he charged me $808.00. A review of the bill shows they did work that was never discussed with me. I requested a partial refund but he has refused. I have filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. I DO NOT recommend this shop for anything. You use them at your own risk. read more

Took my car in last week (truthfully, based on great yelp reviews) because it was making a clunking noise. Otto quickly diagnosed it as a right axle problem and gave me the option to put a new part in or a rebuilt one which would be a bit cheaper. I went for the new one based on his recommendation ---he was very honest and friendly as were the other mechanics working there. We scheduled my repair for the following week. I dropped it off on Tuesday night. It was done by 1 PM the next day. They will drive you somewhere local if needed when you drop your car off.
