This team is organized and efficient. The biggest issue was the very high estimates/ cost of some repairs that were so much higher than others, we went to YouTube and fixed our own issue free! Even after showing them the simple loose wire that was causing a short in my tail lights, I was pissed to get a $1700 estimate for diagnostic, new tail lights, etc when I fixed this for $0. Carlos is the BEST! I took my 2016 BMW M235i to him after feeling like the dealer was giving me inflated pricing as well as some unnecessary recommendations. On my first visit, he confirmed that some of the repairs the dealer said I needed were true. He replaced my brakes and rotors for significantly less than the dealer had quoted. The whole team was professional, quick and I left with my car driving perfectly. On my second visit to Carlos, I was in a panic. I was leaving for my cross country drive to relocate to Texas. Just as I'm starting over the Vincent Thomas bridge, my car starts overheating. I call him. He is very, very knowledgeable about BMW! How do I know this for sure? He quoted almost the exact wording of the warning that my car was giving me in that moment. He was like does it say this or does it say this? I told him and he said you can continue to drive back to me, as long as it says you can. So, I did. Every available space in my car is packed with belongings and 2 cats and a dog. We have sold our home and I really have no where to go for the night. He sees the fur folks, he sees my face and he jumps into action. He diagnosed the problem immediately. I needed a new hose. He was able to locate and obtain the part (he did not have it on-site), install it and have me back on the road all in about 2 hours. Literally a life saver! Carlos and Josh do not know what they are doing. If you would like to let them practice and learn on your BMW or any nice car you care about, be my guest... I was hoping this would be a good shop as it was close by and clean looking. I should have stayed away after the first problem I had with them. Any repair I've had them do, I had to bring the car back to them a 2nd or 3rd time to get it right. The most recent interaction was 3 attempts to do a simple brake job. Each time he gave the car back with brakes still squeaking and I had to point it out to him. Now I just want a refund but to get that I need to bring it to him a 4th time so he can replace the failed brakes with my original brakes. (Are you kidding me? And he still has my old brakes? Makes no sense and I've already had so much of my time wasted there) Ive decided I'll just eat the coat and not give him a chance to create more problems on my car that he can charge me for. Maybe you will have better luck but I suggest finding a better, honest shop or going straight to BMW for peace of mind. read more

This place is cleaner that most auto shops in the San Pedro are and it is literally 2 mins away from my home on the same street so I took my BMW there since they specialize in german cars. When I took my car in I knew what was wrong with it and I had the parts already (spark plugs and ignition colis). The owner was going to charge almost $150 to tell me what the problem is despite me telling him I know exactly what is wrong. I asked him does the money go towards the repair and he said no. He also said he only uses his own parts and that I will have to buy parts from him! I told him I had the spark plugs already and they are OEM, he did not care. So Basically I was going to end up with a $600-$700 dollar bill to change spark plugs and 2 ignition coils. I left here and went to International Motors Sales a few miles away and paid about $200 for everything and they had no issue using my parts. I would stay away from this shop as they try to figure out every way possible to nickel and dime you. And it takes this guy forever to give you a quote on everything. If you hade a german car trust me go to International Motors Sales they are affordable , fast and good at what they do. read more

I must say I am completely in disagreement with the other reviewers here who gave this place only one star. If you think you know everything already and you've bought the parts yourself dude then why bother taking it to a professional??? After living in NYC and being car-free for over 12 years, I took the plunge again when I moved to LA and knew I needed to find a place I could trust that was close by and convenient. After calling a local San Pedro garage that was rated very highly on Yelp, the owner informed me that he doesn't specialize in German cars (I have a Volkswagen Passat), but he referred me to Advance German Auto and told me they do great work. I've been taking my car there ever since and for the last 2 years I have been a happy customer and would recommend them to any of my friends or family with a German car. Rudy (the owner) is very nice, he always gets the work done on time and never forgets to call when he needs to get my permission for something that wasn't originally discussed. No, this doesn't mean he's trying to screw me over. It means, in the most recent case when I asked him to fix a broken brake light during a routine oil change (they only use German oil BTW) he realized after getting in there that the light had burnt out and damaged other parts that needed to be replaced. He only charged me for the parts. He will even give you a ride home and/or come pick you up when your car is done being repaired. As a woman and as a recent convert back to the scary world of auto-ownership I appreciate a place that treats me with respect and is dependable and honest. Maybe it's the New Yorker in me but I just always assume going in that people are trying to screw me over and that is not the case here. I don't get the price gouging statement of the other reviewer, because a year ago a VW dealership recommended doing a lot of work that I put off doing and when Rudy advised the same work recently his price was cheaper. read more

He's not cheap, neither is his quality of work or the cars he works on. Rudy is a very nice and honest man who does an exceptional job. You get what you pay for. If you have a German car and want it to receive the best care possible (reducing the overall frequency with which it needs repairs), bring it here. I wouldn't trust anyone else. The dealer is ok but too far away. Plus you won't receive the personal attention from the dealer that you get from Advance German Car. Of course servicing a German car is expensive. Many of the parts have to be imported and are not as readily available. There are less mechanics around with specific knowledge pertaining to them. Many would argue they are also more complex machines. You should have known when you bought a German car that you were going to be paying more for service than you would for domestic cars or more popular/affordable Japanese cars. When I looked at the invoice they charged me over $500.00 labor! I'll never go back to them! My boyfriend took his BMW for minor fix. They charged him $1,700.00. The labor alone was $800.00.
