'Fette Kuh' or the fat cow, in translation is a really popular and widely known burger place in…read moreCologne. I have heard a lot about it, but never quite decided myself to visit it. Till recently. With a group of 3 friends went there to try the so preached burgers. And OH MY GOD, it is worth it! But till you actually get to taste them, you will struggle with a lot of other things. For example the queue is huge. Like doesn't even matter if you go on weekends or trough the week, early or late, there will definitely be a queue. Then, after you order, the wait begins. take time with you. 20 minutes are easily in. So no you are bored, hungry and tired of the small talk people try to kill the time with... Suddenly your name is called. You get the burgers, but surprise. If you made the mistake to eat in, it will be impossible for you to actually find a table or place to sit. But if all this suffering is over, OMG you can get fett. The first bite, and you will realise why this place so popular is. The burgers are just amazing, to be honest I will go as far as saying the best I have ever tried. Meat prepared by own recipe, fresh veggies, and own sauces.... Your mouth will just explode from the mixture of fett and taste. So if you are in Cologne, and consider having a burger, don't consider any other places. This is the one to go to, even if it's not quite central, or easy to get to.

It's quite shocking for me to read such good reviews from americans about this place…read more I was here for the first time, and i was truly disappointed. I had a BBQ Bacon Burger, it was good, but nothing from other world. The paddy was big, 200 grs, cooked to the exact point, bacon crispy and tasted great, the BBQ was just regular bottle sauce from the Supermarket :/ the bun well, not the regular kind, but also nothing fancy, i found the patty a bit flavorless. The fries? Don't get me started! The waiting time was like quite a lot, but i'm not someone that complains about that, and i understand, because there is a lot going on here! But after the wait was over and my name was shouted, i got my burger, but no fries, but the guy behind the counter managed that pretty well, he apologized for it and told me i was going to get a big bowl, even though i ordered a small portion, and i also got 2 different sauces when i just ordered ketchup, KUDOS! The sauces overall were bad, flavorless. The Burger looked really great, i just don't know where the taste went, seriously! The service is... well... there? People are friendly, they are like really really under pressure, there are a lot of people coming and going. Like really a LOT of people. I've always heard pretty much only good things about this place and maybe i expected too much, but for me, it was truly just another burger joint with regular burgers. That's what really shocks me the most about the reviews from fellow american yelpers.

Not sure why thing are set up this away, but alas, what's important is that at the end of the day, you'll have a great meal. Ambiance (3/5): Beef Brothers has a small interior with a few tables and no A/C. The place to be is on the patio in front of the restaurant. Al fresco dining is the way to go in Europe. The restaurant is on a busy street with lots of others restaurants, bars, and shops in the vicinity. Service (4/5): We stopped by on a Friday for dinner. You order at the counter and they will bring your food out to you. As a fast casual restaurant, service isn't a big part of the experience. With that being said, the guy working the cash register was friendly and took our order without any hiccups. Drinks (3.5/5): Bottled soft drinks and beers are what's offered here. Including some craft brews. Since we were having drinks after, we stuck with alcoholic beverages. I had an iced tea. Food (4.5/5): To my surprise, Germany has a big burger culture. While I was skeptical as I'm an American and I know we do burgers right, I was most definitely proved wrong. Beef Brothers has a creative menu of burgers. You'll see a Mexican burger with guacamole, you'll find an American burger with BBQ sauce and onion rings, and more. My burger was cooked just right and oozing with flavor. The veggies were fresh. The bun was fresh and lightly toasted. All in all, a great burger. To further add to the fun, Beef Brothers has loaded fries. I'm a sucker for loaded fries, so I couldn't say no. My fries had melted cheese and bacon bits on them. The fries delivered too. If you're not looking for something quite as filling, they have regular fries too. We were looking for an affordable meal that would give us a nice base layer for a night out drinking. Beef Brothers accomplished that with flying colors. If you're looking for a solid burger in Cologne, this is a great spot to check out.

The quest for the best burger restaurant in Germany continues. My next stop was Hans Im Glück…read more First off the interior and design of the restaurant is really nice but at times the music is too loud and makes it hard to understand what the people you are eating with are saying. The burger selection is a good one with many different choices that will leave any burger lover wishing they could try at least 5 of them. I focused on the special Christmas burgers because I can obviously only get them during Christmas. My choice was the Elsässer. It was more of a sweet and salty burger which I am starting to love more and more. It had Brie cheese, with a berry sauce. This was very good and a 5 star recommendation. The fries were ok but being able to have as much mayo, ketchup, barbecue, or honey mustard is great. My friend had the sweet potato fries and I would say pay the extra euro for these because they are much better. Since coming to Germany I have tried many burgers. Some sweet and some savory. But there are two burgers that have been standouts. One is the Geissbock from Hans Im Glück. This burger has just about everything I love in a burger, sweet with the fig sauce, savory with the bacon and just to crank it up a notch the goat cheese or ziegen kase it's called here. The Wild West Burger is what I think of a typical American Burger. The taste was good with the barbecue sauce and onions but it isn't very special to me. Probably a 4 star burger. Also they had a great deal which was a Burger, Fries, Beer, and Coffee for 13€ which I believe is really good here in Köln. My favorite Burger place in Köln.

Perhaps I caught Hans on a bad night, because he seemed pretty unglücklich to me…read more I've heard great things about the place, and was looking forward to expanding my burger repertoire beyond Fette Kuh. When I arrived to meet our group, I was a bit stunned at how LOUD the place was, but, that's a given at most restaurants these days. The interior was a bit upscale/trendy, IMO, for a real burger joint, but I wasn't there for the ambiance... I was there for the beef. I bucked the typical burger options and - full of hope - went for a breadless burger, the Hoffnungsträger, which was advertised as a "juicy beef patty with argula, parmesan, and parmesan dressing". I split an order of fries with a friend. The plate presentation was good, and my mouth was watering... until I had the first bite of the burger. I hadn't been asked how I would like it cooked, but I hoped for something closer to medium well, so that I would be able to taste the real flavor of the meat. Instead, the patty was overcooked and completely dry. Fortunately, the burger patty was absolutely drenched in both the parmesan dressing and a mysterious orange-colored sauce that wasn't listed in the description, adding a bit of moisture. It was edible, but not enjoyable. I continued to hold out hope for the thick cut fries - which were obviously not homemade, but looked tasty nonetheless. The fries were cooked very well, crispy on the outside, nice and soft on the inside, but were over salted, so we didn't even finish the small order. I applaud HiG for their range of very inventive burger options - from beef to chicken to vegetarian... I just wished the food had tasted better.
