Basic flavorless asian food location. No egg rolls on the menu, rangoons were kinda sad. Filet was decent. Veggies were definitely meh. experience. Don't think it will be here very long.

The dish was ! It was not heavily sauced, not overpowered with seasonings, and as you see the presentation . The lady actually asked us, how was everything. You hardly get that in some $$$$ restaurants here in metro Bham!

I was in the mood for some Hibachi but wasn't really in the mood to go in a sit down to eat. This was my first time trying Otoro but I decided to give them a try because they had great reviews on DoorDash (I ordered pick up through DoorDash btw). Outside the restaurant it wasn't too busy, was easy to find, and easy to find parking too. When I first walked in I wasn't greeted but it was okay because the pick up process was easy. I told the woman at the front I was here for a pick up and it was ready within minutes. The service wasn't that great but the overall presentation of the meal was pretty good. The ambiance gives a casual pick-up restaurant with an option to dine in. Now on to the food, it was pretty good. The person who got the steak hibachi dinner said hers was pretty good, but she wishes it came with more steak. My shrimp and chicken combo was pretty good, the yum yum sauce was a great addition to the meal. The sushi rolls were okay, they lacked flavor and the tempura breading on my crunchy shrimp roll was a little on soggy side. My favorite part of the meal however was the spring rolls! I would definitely come back just for those. Overall my experience was okay, the price point certainly matches the service.

Shrimp Bento Box with all vegetables & Steak hibachi

You can order to go or dine in ordering at the front first. I got the shrimp bento box with all vegetables instead of rice and vegetables. It came with edamame, shrimp, sautéed mushrooms onions and broccoli, 2 California rolls, and a fried spring roll. The shrimp and vegetables were really good and the yum yum sauce and ginger sauce were great. The spring roll was okay. We also got the steak hibachi. Steak was fine, but not as good as the shrimp. The inside was clean and had good music. The service was quick and the employees were nice.

In my opinion there can not be too many Japanese style hibachi places. This recent addition to the Birmingham food scene is located on South Shades Crest Road right across from the YMCA. It's tucked away at the very end of a strip and almost not noticeable but for their bright string lights that they hung right outside above their outdoor seating area. This place reminds me a lot of OEC Japanese Express a few miles down John Hawkins Pkwy, but much larger in terms of seating (indoor and out) and more nicely decorated. Otoro's is also a "walk up" to counter to place your order. Their lighted menus above the order counter is massive. Their menu choices of "hibachi" and sushi are thorough. There's pretty much any combination of hibachi you can choose. Take a couple minutes to study their menu as they distinguish their different options with their Specials, Combos, Bowls, Boxes or Dinners. I was hungry so I opted for the Dinner of course which comes with noodles, veggies, rice and salad. I ordered our meals to-go so I can't comment on the service, but they seem very efficient and will bring your dishes to you after you find a seat. My shrimp dinner was very good. The large shrimp were cooked just right and my portions were massive. I feel like if I had eaten there I would've gotten even more food on an open plate. They can only fit so much in those to go boxes. Note to self: eat there next time. I had a nice portion of noodles as well as rice. The rice was a little bland by itself but eating with veggies and shrimp cured that dilemma quickly. Tammy tried the steak dinner. The cut of steak wasn't a filet, but it was cooked medium rare as she ordered and was a little cheaper. If you want the Filet mignon dinner it's only $3 more. Again, lots of food for 2 meals. Prices are trend on the higher side. I prefer traditional hibachi places like my favorite Stix where they cook in front of you and make large "fires" in your face and toss shrimp in your mouth, but if you need a "quick" healthy meal with most of the major food groups, this is the way to go. I look forward to trying sushi next time.

If you have a phone number on a door hopefully it is the LOCATION of your restaurant. I have placed multiple orders to what is say on the door is your phone number. To show up and never get any food or have food ready. Change the phone number on your door so that people will know who they are calling. The poor Homewood location is loosing tons of money cause we think we call 1 location and it is actually a totally different location.

I'm wondering if it was my fault for not ordering hibachi from the demonstration grill, but I was thinking since the restaurant was empty I was going it a service ordering from a table, but my soup and salad came out after my hibachi meal. I think the waiter forgot about it because I had to so if it was still coming. When it did come, the soup looked like mostly water (see photos) and the salad was over drenched in dressing. I've never seen that much dressing in a salad my entire life. The meat wasn't hot but the fried rice really saved the day. It was salty, but I prefer mine that way. I like the location of this place so I'm hoping that next visit will be different.

Somehow yes again. Walking in feels like the culinary version of a personality test having a nervous breakdown. The good news is the sushi side of this identity crisis absolutely works. The specialty rolls were creative without crossing into "we put Hot Cheetos and gummy bears on this one" territory. Big flavors, fresh ingredients, and combinations that actually made sense. The nigiri was also excellent. Fresh fish, nicely sliced, clean flavor. No complaints there at all. Then the ramen arrived and apparently the seasoning chef had already gone home for the evening. The broth tasted like somebody whispered "tonkotsu" into a pot of warm water and hoped for the best. It desperately needed salt, MSG, anything that would make it wake up and realize it had responsibilities. Not offensive. Just aggressively average. And then there was the atmosphere. Now to be fair, this was not the restaurant's fault. They got ambushed by what appeared to be an entire youth baseball league celebrating the end of the season. Imagine trying to enjoy sushi while sitting inside a Chuck E. Cheese hostage situation. Kids running everywhere. Screaming. Yelling. One child may have briefly achieved low Earth orbit near the hostess stand. Meanwhile the parents reacted to this chaos the same way people react to a car alarm in a parking lot. Complete indifference. The staff honestly handled it as well as they could. Tuesday is apparently kids special night, so consider this less of a complaint and more of a public service announcement. If you're looking for a quiet dinner, maybe don't roll in during Little League victory parade hours. That said, the sushi was good enough and the restaurant handled the chaos with enough grace that I'm rounding up to four stars. Just know what you're walking into. Come for the sushi. Lower expectations slightly for the ramen. And maybe bring noise-canceling headphones if it's Tuesday night.

This place is all you can eat, and when I say the menu is thick, I mean six inches thick. I'm pretty sure it qualifies as light reading for a semester course. You don't order sushi here. You enroll in it. The roll selection is massive, creative, and honestly impressive. Unique combinations, bold flavors, and everything tastes fresh. Like actually fresh. They do not skimp on the fish. No "where's the tuna?" scavenger hunts here. It's generous, balanced, and legit high quality. Now let's talk about the pace. Slow is not the word. Leisurely. Meditative. Spiritual. I'm convinced some of the fish is still being chased down in the river before it hits the plate. Fresh? Absolutely. Efficient? Not even a little. At one point I considered aging in place at my table. I had time to reflect on my life choices, my retirement plan, and whether I should order dessert now for next Tuesday. But here's the thing. I'm going back. Because when the rolls finally arrive, they deliver. Big flavors. Fresh ingredients. Creative combinations that make you immediately forgive them and place another round that will arrive sometime during the next fiscal quarter. Four stars. The food is top tier. The service moves like it's on island time without the island. Bring good company and a flexible schedule. It's worth it.

When I tried to order a single bowl of ramen, she told me to get the AYCE dinner option instead, even though ramen is listed individually on the menu. Because I have a smaller appetite, iI told her it was good and I was sticking with the ramen. Later, my friend offered to share a piece of her sushi roll with me. The server cut in and rudely snapped that we weren't allowed to do that, stating that if I wanted anything else, I had to get the all you can eat. While we told her that I wasn't getting from her food we where just sharing because it was our first time there, she was sooo rude coming at us that we CAN'T. While I understand AYCE sharing rules, her delivery was incredibly hostile, argumentative, and unprofessional. It completely ruined our lunch break.
