This seemed liked a cute interesting shop to stop by, and recently it came up on social media…read moreagain. Unfortunately, it seems like the owner takes a big dislike towards her shop gaining more attention publicly over the squishy toys she sells. She had a short and cold attitude towards those lining up to go into her store (Even though they had driven from over an hour away) and has been hiding products and picking and choosing who she wants to sell to. She has distinctly been hiding the schyllings needoh products and prohibiting her workers from selling to anyone she doesn't approve of, automatically assuming you are a reseller without proof, or she is interrogating you personally to see if she is willing to sell you the stress toy. If she doesn't already know you, she just gives cold customer service. It comes off very discriminating. It's very sad and disheartening that in order to get a toy for your children or for yourself to destress, she causes so much stress. We asked for one of the holiday Needohs and she said there were none. Just for us to see people walk out after us with the same items we had just asked for... So much for supporting a small business and enjoying hobbies with our children and families.

What stunning artifacts. As a minimalist, I wanted to buy everything! I graciously and gladly resorted to and settled on a set of earrings and necklace. I absolutely love them. Umami is a beautiful shop. And the Shop Attendant was just as beautiful, sweet, helpful, personable, and welcoming. When I visit my kids next, during the summer, I will be back!

They are definitely worth making the trek from the El Cerrito Plaza and prices are reasonable to original price compared to other retailers (and arguably a better deal since you do not have to deal with shipping). I would have loved to have seen some Nade Studios items, Madi Apparel, Friendsheep pieces, or just crocheted items in general, although it looks like their inventory changes often and sometimes they carry Babaa. The service was super friendly during our visit and I'm excited to keep an eye on Morningtide to see what they're going to carry next!

The younger female employees are often standing around talking and gossiping rather than helping customers. The only employee I consistently see walking around assisting customers is an older woman with gray hair. She is absolutely wonderful--she is always friendly, greets customers, and genuinely makes an effort to help. She is by far the most welcoming person in the store. Unfortunately, there are two employees in particular who have made my visits especially uncomfortable. One is a woman with pink and black hair who frequently wears a mask. I have personally felt profiled and treated differently by her, which has made me uncomfortable. Another is a tall white woman who is also consistently rude and gives customers unfriendly looks. I understand that everyone has bad days, but this has happened repeatedly. It's especially disappointing because this is a children's store, where customers should feel welcomed and comfortable. Management should really address the customer service and how certain employees interact with customers. I do want to give credit to the older woman with gray hair--she is always kind, helpful, and welcoming, and she deserves recognition for her customer service.
