This space used to house one of the older Chinese herbal pharmacies, lasting over three decades, until the family retired and closed their business. I heard the children might still be doing a wholesale business but their Chinatown footprint is no more. They've had multiple incidents of break-ins and smash-and-grab events over the years which prompted them to hire a full-time security guard to stand watch in front of the store. Luk Fook decided to open a 2nd Chinatown location here. They used to have a store on Grant Avenue, They have not announced when they will reopen, likely tricky if it hinges on the city to approve contractor work. With the number of longtime jewelers in Chinatown that have closed due to retirement or the changing economy, I'm glad that one is still investing in this community. *** Construction crew member mentioned target reopening in early October 2024.
