Want Mexican groceries, crafts, and goodies in Bristol? Come here -- simple as that!
Originally stopped to buy a pair of silver earrings I saw in the window. Came in and saw the most amazing array of dried chiles, spices, even hard-to-find ingredients such as nopales, epazote, mole poblano paste, canned tomatillo sauces......oh my.
Chatted to the owners Alex and Louisa and now every few weeks I get an e-mail saying 'Fresh corn tortillas are in!'. They have even made fresh tamales before. They run it like a personal neighbourhood grocery, although I feel every Mexican food lover in Bristol should know about this shop. I even bought a tortilla press there; now I'm waiting for them to run a class teaching us how to make good home-made tortillas! Five stars when they start running classes :-)
To whet your appetite I'll finish with a list of things I've bought from Otomí in the few years I've been shopping there:
Corn tortillas
Fresh tamales (only twice, can't wait for next time)
Dried poblano, mulato, guajillo chiles
Dried chiles de arbol
Dried chipotles
Chipotles in adobo
Herdez salsa verde
Frijoles negros
Nopales
Ibarro hot chocolate (and chocolate whisk)
Cool Chile Company's achiote seasoning
Otomi's own brand mexican oregano, epazote and cinnamon
Oh and Mexican coffee, also recommended.
Finally, silver earrings (handmade I think) and greetings cards.
