This was a pretty great theater experience. I have loved Jon Robin Baitz and his contributions to theater and TV (with Brothers and Sisters). I felt like there was a lot of great things about this script. There was a lot of depth for the actors to work with, and no doubt helpful in why Judith Light won the well deserved Tony Award last night. As far as the writing goes, I feel like Baitz has done better. The end of the play disappointed me with over complication (without giving anything away). It seemed to be a bit overwrought and contrived. Still there was good drama, and the show was always interesting.
Stockard Channing was great, though Judith Light truly stole the show as the alcoholic aunt who avoided becoming a 2-dimensional funny supporting character.
If you like a good family drama, you will probably enjoy the show. A good solid choice for an evening on Broadway. read more
