Dinner for 3 on a Saturday, 7:30pm. Opted for dining room (vs Hibachi style). Let's get the bad stuff out of the way. This place was filthy: the floor, the restroom, the air vents (see pic). Good thing the lighting was dim. The air was stagnant. Box fans on floor need to be cleaned and put to use. Also, using dining area to store overflow supplies (see pic). If this place is upscale, Waxahachie is in trouble. Secondly, I requested the combo fried rice ($13), which I was told included steak, chicken and shrimp, but was instead served the Hibachi combo dinner ($36), which included the same proteins and less fried rice. I suppose I should have noticed when the waitress asked if I wanted the soup and salad (which I never received, contributing to my confusion), but I dove right in when the food arrived. The food, especially the appetizers of vegetable tempura and gyoza (pan-fried) were tasty and well-prepared, that's why I 'm rating a 2 and not 1. When I received the bill and reported the misunderstanding, as well as the absence of soup/salad, I was merely offered soup/salad to go but chose instead tempura cheesecake (gross). Overall, food was decent, but service and ambiance were horrible. My advice: go to Hibachio down the street, see if you can pay an extra $20 to watch them cook your food, and you'll still come out way ahead. read more

Overpriced. Menu says they close the kitchen at 3:00 pm. But that's not true. They close it at 2:45. Food is decent.

First impressions matter, and unfortunately, our experience at Osuba Sushi didn't start on the best note. The host was missing for a while, and several servers walked right past us without a greeting or acknowledgment. Eventually, the host arrived--she was very sweet and seated us promptly. Our server had a similar demeanor: kind, but mostly absent. He didn't seem very familiar with the menu, couldn't offer any solid recommendations, and felt a bit cold or perhaps just inexperienced. Now, the highlight--the food. While it wasn't CA-level sushi, it was definitely the best I've had in TX. The quality and taste of the dishes were great. That said, it was disappointing not to receive basic serving essentials that typically accompany a sushi meal, including wasabi, ginger, and other small but important touches were missing. The ambience also fell flat and could use a refresh to better match the quality of the food. I share this feedback not to discourage, but to offer insight. Osuba Sushi has solid potential, but it needs the right team and more attention to detail to truly shine. read more

Low end Hibachi place. Don't expect high level service. Our "server" spoke softly and kinda mumbled so it was hard to hear what he was saying. The food was on the low end as well . The fried rice was bland just eggs and rice with butter and soy sauce. My scoop of veggies was 75% onion thanks for the three tiny pieces of broccoli. I got the teriyaki chicken , just a thin sliced breast cooked on The flat top . For 6 adults it was $217. They included the gratuity in the check so it was about $185 before . This was an impulse decision to have dinner here and there were definite pros and cons. The sushi and sashimi was my highlight. Well prepared and a good price point, we shared a spicy tuna roll and I had the sashimi appetizer as an entree. The snapper was the least tender fish; but at $8 and $14 respectively for nice portions and with good flavor, I was content with that. I wasn't happy, though, with the tough cubes of tasteless skewered chicken billed as Yakitori in Teriyaki Sauce. I did ask for more sauce; but really, I needed a knife, which I didn't have, just to get it off the skewer. My husband had the Japanese Curry Chicken, a dinner entree. He loved this dish; but the "either or steamed or fried rice" carried an upcharge of $2.50 that was not made known to us. I didn't see it on the menu and the waiter didn't mention it. The upcharge appeared on the bill. That's a little steep for a bowl of fried rice that had no additives. They also brought him his bowl of curry without the dinner additions of soup and salad. If I hadn't mentioned the salad, it never would have come and my husband waived the soup. This brings me to the service. Our waiter was a nice guy and I believe he meant well but I've had much better service associated with Japanese dining. What part of this is the restaurant's fault, I honestly couldn't say. No chop sticks were on our table or were offered although I saw them on other tables, no small plates were offered with the tuna roll which we shared, no extra napkins were offered in addition to the ONE which came with the fork, there was the dinner order problem, and when ready to leave, he brought us the two boxes and a soup container we asked for but no sack. So is it training? We tipped him more so on his personality actually. It's hard to rate a place that has such divided points of service. Sushi and Sashimi was the star here. The kitchen performance was mixed and so was service. The restaurant itself was comfortable and there's plenty of parking. The Hibachi grills at the other end had a number of birthday celebrations happening. I left not really interested about returning, though. read more

This place could be so good if they would just put in a little more effort. The service is mediocre, the food is very good, the atmosphere is strange and the decor is inconsistent. They store extra product in the corners of the dining room and just make it kind of odd to dine in here. But we have for years because we love sushi happy hour. read more

Came here with my son for Mother's Day. He and I arrived for lunch. Covid protocol is most definitely in place. We both enjoyed the Hibachi Ribeye with vegetables, along with egg rolls as an appetizer. The Hibachi Chefs are so amazingly entertaining, it's hard to focus to eat. The service was top notch, with the sweetest waitress ever. We were in and out without lingering as people were waiting to get in. Our dinner party was seated fairly quickly as we had made reservations...we had a large party for a birthday dinner. Our server Bryan was great, funny ,and very attentive. He took our orders in a timely manner. I ordered sushi that was delivered before the hibachi dinner was started. The Texas roll was so good... a different take on the regular sushi roll. Our chef did a good job with the preparation of our hibachi meals but could have been friendlier as there were small requests pertaining to meal orders that he seemed agitated with. As a very loyal customer, I just have to say, "Are you freaking kidding me Osuba"? I ordered a to-go order of sushi (which I have done many times before)... never have I gotten it home and found it like this. Total lack of quality control and complete disregard for your customers. I guess I should've checked in the bag before I left, but I had total trust because I've never had an issue before. I am so disappointed that I spent money on this! The food was ok the service was terrible waited close to 10 minutes for the drink order to be delivered to the table then another 10minutes for them to come back and take the food order. Once the food was dropped the yum yum sauce that was ordered at the time we ordered out food didn't arrive the server was nonexistent after food was dropped. We won't be returning! read more

Sadly the server (Lynsey) deserves FIVE starts yet I am unable to break it down that way. The cook appeared every amateur in nature from his food preparing to his "show". He burned the eggs, scraped the over cooked browned egg from the cooking table and added them to the top of the uncooked eggs! By the time I realized "he he isn't starting over he's actually going to utilize these eggs" I stopped him the bets I could and he removed the larger portions of burnt eggs. As the night continue he continued to BURN the food. He did not thoroughly clean the shrimp and the rice of coursed burnt was hard on texture. Unfortunately there was no manager and no one around to remedy my $150 plus issue! This truly makes for skepticism on a future visit. read more

Waitress was fantastic! The cook at the hibachi table was awful. We came for a birthday celebration. The cook didn't smile. Did the fire thing at the beginning and then nothing, no show no nothing. He finished my meat first and I asked for yum yum. I had to ask again, after he finished cooking and cleaning the grill to finally get the sauce. My food was no longer hot because it took so long. I k ow it might sound a little whiny, but part of the expense of eating here is the experience. Told the manager and she just kept smiling and said sorry. This place has tanked!!!! We will just go to Hibachio next time for better food and service for much less $$$ read more

We enjoyed a delicious dinner here for a family members birthday recently and I couldn't go without telling you all to go try this place out. Small town Waxahachie has a great hibachi dinner choice for you and your family. I havent tried the sushi yet but I am looking forward to it. This is a larger hibachi place than what I am used to with a pretty good sized sushi dining area as well. There is also a large bar separating the two dining halls. The fried rice and teriyaki chicken was delicious and the Service was pretty good as well. Large parking lot area. Food sucked!!!!!!!!! The service was great but the pretentious prices for shrimp dumplings were ridiculous since the dumplings looked like white rabbit pellets and had no flavor at all. The portion for the shrimp fried rice was great except for the fact that there were only 7 shrimp for a serving size of rice that could feed 10 people. Big disappointment also since the shrimp were overcooked and tasted like rubber. read more

We went here for a birthday party. The restaurant was accommodating for our large group, which was wonderful. But I can't say I'd ever return here. The hibachi guys all looked miserable. I'm not a big fan of the hibachi show, but it's kinda depressing when the people doing it have no enthusiasm. I slipped twice trying to stand up because the floor is coated in grease. This cool place did not disappoint me nor my picky-eater-in-laws! The decor looks like something I'm used to in Dallas, pretty awesome and I'm sure the nightlife is great! Our waitress, who I am super bummed I can't recognize in this review because I've misplaced our receipt, was a very attentive and personable young lady. We really liked her a lot. Hate to leave this rating "Damn Gina." I had the Filet, Shrimp and Scallops for dinner with Fried rice and a water. Steak was slightly overcooked but good, rice was great, and the Shrimp were overcooked but all in all good flavor. Problem was with the scallops. They were burnt pieces of rubber, didn't eat one of them. Brought it to the attention of the waiter who agreed with my assessment. The manager's solution was to remove $3.00 off the bill for the whole order of scallops. To add a side of scallops to an existing order is $9.00 for comparison. It's wasn't about the $3.00, although more should have been removed, the fact the manager never came to speak with me is a problem. Rather relayed information to me through the server. I'm not sure why so many people are down on this place. In my opinion it's one of the few bright spots in Waxahachie casual sit down dining. The hibachi is consistently delicious and the quality is pretty good for the price. My fiancé really enjoys the sushi and seafood above anywhere else the town has to offer. My only complaint is that the hibachi fried rice can be on the dull side for what I would expect, but that's easily remedied with some of the neighboring grilled onions on your plate. This amazing spot is perfect for family night or date night. During the pandemic they have you wear a mask until you get to your seat. If your getting hibachi then they space you away by two seats from the other party. This was great news because we wanted the in house experience. Wow! What a treat! The service was great.
