Requested a quote to install a out door faucet. Connect to cold water pipe under kitchen sink. Less than 1 foot run of pipe. Rep began immediately pushing maintenance contract for monthly fee. Then quoted price of 568.00 with contract and 628.00 without contract for a job that would take about an hour and use less than 100.00 in parts. We sent him packing! Save your $38. This company charges $38 dollars to come out and quote work. We were new to the area and saw lots of good reviews about Ostrom. We called two electricians to come out and quote a 200 amp service upgrade for our house. Apparently this is a very standard job performed around the area due to the ages of homes. Ostrom happened to be the first appointment and thank goodness we had scheduled a second electrician to quote also. George from Ostrom came out to the house and was very prompt and polite. George almost sold me just because of how nice and knowledgeable he was. He sat down and explained everything they would do for this job. Then he pulled the rug out from under me and told me it would cost $3400. Side note: my fiancé and I had done some online digging and expected to pay around $1000 give or take a few hundred. I picked my jaw up off the floor and thanked him for his time. I do want to emphasize George was a great person, and I am sure he doesn't have control of the prices. We called TG Electrical as our second option and they came out and gave me a quote in 15 minutes for the upgrade. He told me it was a pretty straight forward job and he would do it for $1400!!!!!! He was a certified master electrician and was insured and bonded. It's not like I called some fly by night guy to do the work. They scheduled the job for the following week and were on time and did a great job. They finished in a day and a half as promised and I am very satisfied. Avoid Ostrom at all costs unless you enjoy paying quintuple the actual cost of a job. I am not sure if their business model is to just collect the $38 charge to come out and quote a job, then quote high so they won't have to do the work. Who knows, just remember don't waste your hard earned $38 dollars to be slapped in the face. Heck I would only charge you $5 for that. read more

I called ostrom to set up an appointment. The lady operator asked what kind of problem that I have. I told her my air condition unit is leak and it's not cold. She had set up an appointment. Later I called back and asked her if there is a charge or a free estimate (she should tell me before hand, right?). She answerd there is a $89 charges if I'm not agree on the estimated price. On the appointment day a guy came to look at the air cond unit and ask what a problem and I told him the same thing I told the lady at the office. He told me that if I wanted to have it fixed he has to call the technician to find the leak and it's going to cost me $219 plus this and that and those and the total is around $2200. So to cut the story short I paid him the $89 for coming to tell me all the things that lady should have told me on the phone. Right? To me it's simply a scam. Two techs came to fix a light switch, took them a long time, they whispered to each other a lot then the switch wouldn't work. They finally got it working and handed me a bill fir $248. I recently asked them to do a simple install on a unit that I already purchased and they charged me an ungodly amount of money. I was sure it was an honest mistake. Ostrom has the BEST employees and technicians -- all the way from Dustin (a/c tech and sales), Kendall, who handled scheduling and follow up, to the air conditioner installation crew of James, Ryan, Justin and Daniel. Everyone was very professional, on time, and a pleasure to work with. All were respectful and knowledgeable of their responsibilities and explained the procedures they were conducting and how to operate the different functions of the new thermostat. Expensive/Overpriced!!!!!! I was Quoted $500 for a Badger 5 disposal which costs $110 at Lowe's and only takes 30 minutes to install (see you-tube Badger Installation). $400 for 30 minutes of work! Really? Yes, really, and they refuse to give you an itemized quote so they can gouge you without any argument. Unethical. Do not use this company! Watch the you-tube video and install yourself. When I initially called ostrom out to fix my plumbing I wanted them to repair or replace two outside faucets they put some packing in the first one up front of the house and the rear one they said they could not fix said they would do some research on it whatever that means charge me like $300 and never came back. They were on time, polite, and knew what they were doing. Service guys went out of their way to explain our plumbing problem. We had a blocked sewer line and it needed to be snaked out. After 11 pm.....NO HOT WATER.....my husband called Ostrom, a human anseered and kindly talked us through some trouble-shooting that saved us from an after hours fee. Next morning a scheduler, who had information from our urgent call, set an appointment for us, the technician arrived on time, confirmed the diagnosis or our problem, considered how best to repair, offeded me options, fixed it and...back to normal hot water. They charge ridiculous amount of money! I have two thermostats and was told I will be charge $69 each just to check what's wrong. I was also charged around $256 for a capacitor, which costs maximum $30. I was never given a receipt for the work. read more

Be careful! We called to have a simple repair to a toilet and the service call was $38 and the proposed repair was over $400.00 to,replace the toilet handle! Wouldn't have minded the charge for the service call, but the bid was outrageous! Needless to say, we fixed ourselves for a couple of dollars. read more

We recently had some more work done and they gave an estimate, date of service and got it done! The recommendations and suggestions the technicians gave were better than what we had envisioned. Yesterday we called Ostrom to have a clogged drain snaked. They arrived promptly and informed us it would be $400. We questioned why the price was so high. They said they could do it for $340 if we signed an annual contract at $9.95 per month. We decided to pass on both offers and call someone else. We were made to pay $38 for the service call. Had they informed us of their charges we would have told them not to come. We then called Rooter-Out who arrived at 8:20 the next morning and had the clog cleared in less than an hour. Total charge: $180. I'm happy we waited until the next morning as we saved $220. Snaking a drain is not rocket science and Ostrom's charges are outrageous. read more

got a estimate for ac installation i was utterly shocked by the quote for having done ac installation for three years myself i am very aware of prices of units and cost of installation first quote 7100.00 for heil unit and air handler whole unit cost with everything plus thermostate is only 1950.00 thats a difference of 5150.00 that is so overpriced and i felt as if they were taking advantage of someone who may not know. the second estimate was 7800.00 for a lennox system again way over priced again felt uneasy well all said and done i had a trane system ac and airhandler done by another well known company for 4197.00 now that was a honest price plus it was a trane system which is top of the line also completed in one day old system out new in complete just be ware of some companys that may be trying to take advantage of seniors i would never have them do any work on my home just due to their ridiculious prices remember labour was 5150.00 for one day installation absurd. read more
