I suppose I should start by saying I'm a newly licensed driver. I had to overcome many medical and financial obstacles to get to this point, and, long story short, I was crunched for time to become insured. I learned of Ostrander and figured the location would be more convenient than driving out to Canton, where my parents' agent is. With all that being said, this review may not apply to you. However, the service I received from Mr. Ostrander was simply horrendous.
He began by telling me there was no record of me completing driver's ed (not sure why, as he didn't think it had to do with the six years that had passed since I did it, but I guess that's a separate issue.)
Because I was new to this, he lectured me on the difficulties of getting insured as a new driver (though, in truth, I was already aware I would be paying a high premium), and then he proceeded to make passive comments about my inability to get my license at 16 (I was in a hospital for my 16th birthday, for the record.) Although, I suppose since he asserted he "didn't need to know [my] situation," I was forced to keep my mouth shut. Perhaps I should've at least gotten a word in that I'm doing this all out of pocket on my own.
But then he had the AUDACITY (after I explained to him that the only reason I was doing this was that I NEEDED a car for work because I have no other cars I can use) to suggest that I get a job where I can work from home, adding sardonically, "well, that's life. Not all of us have the luxury to walk to work." I mean, how privileged do you have to be to say that to someone seeking business with you?
The cherry on top came after the fact. I was told to return with an RTA form from my car's dealer. And wouldn't you know it, it was the second and third page of the folder I had brought with me. So either this was a MAJOR oversight on Ostrander's part, or I was effectively refused service.
But in all fairness, if you're wealthy, able-bodied, and an experienced driver, you may get along with him. read more
