Since finding it, we've already been back four times in the last two months and that alone should tell you something. What really sets this place apart is the rotating menu. It changes every 12 weeks, which keeps things fresh and gives you a reason to come back often. So far, everything we've tried has been consistently outstanding. Tonight I had the Amatriciana and Mae went with the special pizza. Both were incredible. The flavors were rich and balanced, the ingredients tasted fresh, and every detail felt intentional. This place was decorated nicely, had a homey feel. Wait staff was amazing. The menu was small, that's usually a good sign. They bring complimentary bread and butter to the table. The butter was an odd flavor. Sweet onion with sage maybe? Not my favorite. When the dishes came out everyones was Luke warm at best except my chicken Marsala which was so hot it almost burned my mouth. The consensus was meh. It was okay. The chicken breast was huge on my plate and very tasty. But the sauce itself was okay and the mushrooms were chewy. Very odd. Deserts were delicious. Very high price point for what you get. A Delightful First Visit to Osteria in Raleigh! This was my first time at Osteria while visiting Raleigh, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from the moment I walked in. I had made a reservation in advance--which I highly recommend--and was promptly greeted and seated upon arrival. Max was our server, and he truly elevated the experience. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and gave great suggestions that made choosing dishes easier and more fun. I opted for the vegetarian options and was blown away. The Panzanella Salad was a standout--I even described it to Max as a "party in the mouth" because of how vibrant and flavorful it was. I also tried the Alfredo and another house-made pasta dish, both of which were rich, satisfying, and full of fresh ingredients. Portions were generous, and the freshness of every component really came through. Max also mentioned that their menu changes every two weeks, which makes me want to come back even more just to try what's new. In short, this place is a gem. It is a small restaurant behind a modest sign in a strip mall. The inside is very well done and the service was great! Very courteous and made sure we were taken care of well. We got the meatballs and calamari for appetizers - definitely get the meatballs because WOW. We also got 4 cocktails and a glass of wine, all of which were tasty. The entrees were genuinely amazing and none of us could decide who got the best meal because they were all that good. We decided to give it a whirl and pop in for the hub's birthday. This place caught us completely off guard. Osteria G's is friggin' delicious! Everything we tasted was top tier. Mac's service at the bar, and his cocktails were tasty. From the bread service to the strawberry trifle -- we were enthralled. I kid you not, the ribeye had a range of flavor that I personally have never experienced in a steak. (That's quite embarrassing as I've had the best of them, or so I thought.) I came here on a Wednesday evening after my friend recommended it. The restaurant has a beautiful and romantic ambience, is very clean and the staff is very attentive and friendly. The menu is limited if you don't eat pork or seafood but I was able to order the autumn risotto which was full of flavor and very filling. Expect to pay at least $25 for an entrée. We went to Osteria G for a family celebration. We were warmly greeted and immediately seated - we did have reservations, a must on the weekend - most nights, actually. We were given a few minutes to peruse the cocktail menu before our drink orders were taken. I had the Hibiscus Margarita - it tasted almost delicate - sweet but not too, barely a taste of tequila. It was good - I'd definitely get it again. We opted not to get apps and went straight to our meal. I ordered the Sea Scallops Herb Pappardelle. Six scallops on top of fresh pappardelle with a light, slightly lemony sauce. The scallops were tender and sweet. The pappardelle was a little on the thick side - too thick for how delicate the sauce was. The sauce itself was less flavorful than I expected. It was good but I wouldn't get it again. My husband had the flounder and my SIL had the ravioli - both evening specials. Like me, they said their meals were good but they wouldn't order them again. My MIL was sharing some of our pasta so only ordered the meatball appetizer. Three huge meatballs served with ricotta. They were delicious - now that was something I'd definitely order again. There were a lot of couples on dates but the restaurant was rather loud even with an attempt at sound dampening on the walls. Service was great - attentive yet unobtrusive Our overall experience was good but not great - though I'd like to give Osteria G another chance, maybe on a Wednesday for the 4 course prix fixe tasting menu - with reservations, of course! read more

Bad Bad Bad With great reluctance I am posting this review.  We spoke personally with the manager to address our concerns in an attempt to avoid this posting, but, sadly, the manager displayed a bit of an attitude, and the server definitely EXUDED attitude.  So, to spare you the possibility of experiencing what we did, I offer the following for your consideration. FOOD:  My spouse had the Tortelloni and I had the Gnocchi.  We were both greatly disappointed in the quantity, quality and the serving temperature.  The tortellini was served barely warm, and the pasta was not cooked.  The manager tried to justify the cardboard-box texture as being al dente, but it was well short of al dente (Would rinsed-off lasagna noodles qualify as al dente?). The gnocchi was acceptable, but it, too, was served barely warm.  And for both dishes, the quantity was so small that we had to have extra bread to avoid needing to seek out a Taco Bell on the way home. SERVICE:  All started out well, but near the end, things went off the rails.  Twice my plate was snatched from in front of me - by two different people - before I was finished.  One time, I still had sauce in the bowl and was soaking it up with my bread, the other was my bread plate that still had bread on it.  Neither time was I asked if I was finished:  the plates simply disappeared! ATTITUDE:  While the manager went through the motions of being interested in our feedback, it was clear he did not believe things were as we described them.  Finally, to top things off, when we paid, the server plopped down our bill and huffed "The Tortelloni was taken off!" then stomped off.  No "Sorry about that", "Have a nice day" or "Please come back.  Nothing! And one more thing ... a smallish bowl of gnocchi with marinara sauce should not sell for $24 in my humble opinion.   And by "smallish" I mean as in "May I have some more bread please so I don't leave hungry?" read more

Clams were just ok could have used more sauce usually half price bottles Tuesday it was not would have been nice if I was told that. I've dined at Osteria G twice now since my initial visit and left more impressed. Return no.1 - I tried the Gorgonzola and Pear Pizza and it was amazing. We also tried the Provolone al Forno for a starter and the Cannelloni di Carne for the other entree choice. I would not recommend the starter. For $11 you get 4 small pieces of bread and a small dish of cheese topping. They were not busy so service was great. Return no.2 - We tried the Lasagna di Bolognese and OG Grandma Pizza. I was not a fan of the pizza. The lasagna was good and a decent portion but it's expensive. The restaurant was packed and you could tell they were overwhelmed, it was slower but our service was still good. It is pricey so it is more of a special occasion spot. read more

It's just ok. Here's my breakdown: Atmosphere: LOUD as all get out. Our server (I'm not exaggerating here) literally yelled the specials at us because it was so loud. We couldn't talk on date night because it was so loud. This was a Saturday night. The atmosphere was very adults-who-like-to-party with big groups of friends in their 40s+ gathering to have a good time. Not my scene so I'm not knocking stars for that BUT be warned if you're looking for a cozy and intimate spot, this is not it. Food: Pretty overpriced and mediocre. I got the citrus pesto shrimp and tasted absolutely no citrus, and the pesto was pasty and bland. We got the special of the day app, which was a flatbread with beef, arugula and pickled onions that simply tasted of those ingredients, with nothing tying it together. My husband's gnocchi dish was simple but plain (not simple but elegant). Portions were good, I got 5 large shrimp in my dish with tons of pasta. The complimentary bread and homemade compound butter was good. The bill was more than $100 for one app and two entrees with 0 alcohol or dessert. For that amount I want to be at a top-notch foodie place and this isn't that, sadly. Service: The best part of the experience. Besides the poor guy having to literally scream specials at us, everyone we interacted with was prompt, professional and friendly. Tons of water refills, quick attention to get the bill and take our order, etc. Plenty of parking in a big lot, outdoor seats (that weren't being used) and big bar area for revelers. read more

The new owner takes a lot of pride in his restaurant - the chef is part owner and is creative with his dishes - the entrees are complimentary with the sauces and vegetables - you won't make a meal like this at home! Meatball Wellington had a fantastic pastry enveloping the meatball with an awesome wine sauce. I had the corvina fish special - whipped potatoes - spinach with a truffles sauce - sooo good together. My wife had the butchers bolognese - a spinach pasta in a bolognese sauce - first thought was spinach pasta?? Best combo ever for spinach and pasta! Went for our first time tonight and did not disappoint! Of course I made a mistake and booked our reservation for the following day and the hostesses were very gracious and kind. They found a spot for us! The food was awesome. We had the meatballs per a recommendation and they were so good. Lovely wine list and attentive staff.
