The bathroom was like much of Sweden a roomy tiled combination toilette and shower stall. Just watch the slippery when wet surfaces.) Bedding and towels were provided but not changed daily as this is an apartment and not a hotel. The kitchen had two of everything and a large refrigerator and freezer. So you could easily buy groceries(there are markets close by) and keep your restaurant bill down. But it is close to many good restaurants as Gruneloka is the young and hip restaurant district. Only downside were noisy night clubs in the area especially on weekends. But if you are young and want to be in on the fun that would be an upside? No air-conditioning in most of Oslo so you'll need to leave your windows open. The Mathallen is an upscale marketplace full of goodies close by (except on Mondays closed). Main tram street and bus lines are 2 easy blocks away. Hop on and you'll be everyplace you want to go in a few minutes. There is limited parking if you have a car, but we found a spot to park on the street around the corner that was no fee, and left the car there using public transportation (tram, bus, and T-bahn underground, and some ferries) with our Oslo Card for getting around during our four night stay. If you need someone to hold your hand, book into a hotel, but if you are adventuresome and self-reliant and want a good place to stay for a reasonable price, you will be happy with the Chateau Apartments. There is an elevator. WiFi is free, TV including some English channels in your living room. 5 star for price, 4 star for luxury and convenience. Limited desk hours, so pay attention to your arrival time the first day, afterwards you can get in using a punch code number on the outside and inside doors. ( Take a photo of the numbers on your I-phone in case you lose the card!)

If I was aware of the the towels, soap and shampoo situation, either I would have arranged it prior or choose a more traditional hotel. 7. The location was perfect, we had Kiwi market to get supplies from so we just made it out alright.

Before we headed far north, we stayed a few nights at The Thief in Oslo. Our experience here was so amazing it almost beat out the northern lights! the property is stylish and artsy, our room was GORGEOUS with stunning views, every detail was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive, from the bartenders to the dining staff. But Juliane, the hospitality manager, really stands out! She was so kind, warm, and sweet. Not only did she give us a guide to the beautiful city, but she also managed to get us a last-minute reservation at an excellent restaurant nearby that originally had no availability. I've stayed in hotels around the world... Do not miss the Thief, it's one of the best stays ever. Thank you so much to Juliane and the rest of the amazing staff here! I can't wait to come back!

It has a rich history, hosting international guests, celebrities, and even Nobel Peace Prize winners. Location: Grand Hotel is located in the city center of Oslo, Norway. You are literally within walking distance of many great attractions, restaurants, and shopping just outside its front entrance! Walk over or take a short ride to visit major attractions like the Royal Palace, Parliament, and Aker Brygge. It was a bit chilly when we visited in late May, however, with the brisk walking and a warm jacket we kept ourselves warm and comfortable. Accommodations: The hotel interior is stunning and exquisite in its design and decor. The rooms are suite sized and luxurious for your stay. Restaurants we dined in: During our stay, we were fortunate to experience dinner at the iconic Palmen restaurant. Entering the restaurant, your eyes are drawn to the most beautiful chandelier (see picture). The luxurious decor and expansive dining room sets the ambience for the culinary experience we were about to enjoy. The Palmen Restaurant is a renowned restaurant. The restaurant's innovative and dedicated Chefs have created an exquisite continental menu with a Nordic twist. We all enjoyed our dinner here. The service was 5 stars throughout our dinner service for 40! Attentive to everyone's needs and wants. The second location is the Grand Café: A historic cafe serving a rich breakfast buffet in beautiful surroundings. A little history: In 1874 Grand Café opened its doors. Back then, Oslo was called Kristiania. This is where it all started. Location: The Grand Café is located on the ground floor of the hotel. The new Grand Café is open and welcoming to it's guests. The kitchen is open with access to the chefs who prepare food with ingredients mainly from the Nordic countries, and with inspiration from other parts of the world. The decorative ceilings of Lars Backer have been unveiled and recreated, the original Thonet chairs have been renovated and the three famous Krohg paintings have been preserved. The location is good - just a couple blocks off the main pedestrian thoroughfare and about 1km from the main train station. The room we got was a decent size with a large bathroom. We were on the sixth floor on a side street. We like having an open window but at night the trams run very frequently until 2am so it is good their windows are quite soundproof. The other side street would be louder since there are a few bars right around the corner - so beware! They actually have ice machines on each floor! A rarity in Europe. Of course there is no AC since it would be seldom used though they did provide us with a fan! The breakfast buffet is fantastic. A great selection and their pancakes with salted Carmel sauce are awesome! The staff at the buffet was very friendly. Also for 125NOK you can pack a lunch from the buffet. We went upstairs for brekkie and while we were up there she came up to let my colleagues know she had a room ready for them! When they mentioned I was waiting too, she invited us to the desk and she and her teammate, Thea, worked to get us all settled quite nicely and early too! Such fabulous customer service and attention! I think this is remarkable customer attention, especially these days when it is so hard to find. It is also currently the tallest building, so easy to find one's way back to the hotel if out wandering the area. Our room was a good size. However, the bathroom is a major safety hazard. There is a step up from the room floor level so that leaves a hazardous step down to exit. Something to keep in mind, especially at night. Also, there are no safety bars in marble floored shower so it's very very slippery. I also kept tripping on the door sill entering the room from the hallway. Our stay included a buffet breakfast. It was quite extensive with hot and cold items. If it weren't for the safety issues with the bathroom, I'd rate the hotel four stars. No one should risk broken bones while on vacation.

The hotel is also in a very good location; all the major train, bus and tram stations are within walking distance. If you're staying in Oslo as a tourist I highly recommend the Oslo pass since it covers transportation within zones 1 & 2 as well as the entrance fees to most major museums.
