The Bambergerhaus over the last three years has gone through multiple restaurants and, I don't…read morereally understand why. It's a beautiful building located in the middle of one of the nicest parks in Munich and, has tons of outdoor space and facilities for events. This particular restaurant however, seems to have bucked the trend and has been around for a while now. Initially there were two restaurants but, now there is one. The pizza / Italian place shut down recently (not sure permanently or not) and, I am not really surprised about that. This place however seems of attract a lot of locals and, it was packed last night when we got there, around 8pm. It's an Austrian restaurant and there is a self service Biergarten there as well. I have not eaten in the Austrian restaurant so cannot comment on the food but, it looks good. Will update my review, after I have had a chance to eat there. I have been to the self service Biergarten a couple of times and quite like it. They serve Augustiner bier here (one of my favourite Munich brewers) and there is a food counter also. The food counter has normal Biergarten food choice like sausages, wurstsalat and there is a counter that makes Flamkuchen or alpine pizza. The food is quite ok here and I quite like the Biergarten food. The atmosphere is lovely and I love the park itself. We come here often with the dog, as he loves this park. I will definitely come back here again and try the proper restaurant menu. It's close to where we live and an area we often frequent. A nice and quiet part of the city.

I can't compare this to any other Austrian restaurant in Munich, as this was the first one I have…read morebeen to, but, it is a fabulous Austrian restaurant that is well worth a visit. The ambience, food, service and hospitality here is 5 star and despite the fact that the place was completely full on a Wednesday night the service was friendly and very warm. A friend suggested we go here and, whilst I have walked past this place many times, never bothered to try it. He has been a regular here for years and loves it and, I fully understand why :-)) The food menu is small but has some really nice Austrian specialities. I had the Streier Steak and it was crusted with a KürbiskernePesto which was fabulous and came with a side of homemade chips :-))) I loved the steak and it was cooked to perfection :-) For dessert we had the Wiener-Kaiserschmarrn and the Salzburger nockerl and I loved both dishes thoroughly. Cranberries, Currants and nice moist pancake and meringue. Austrians do fabulous desserts and this place is no exception :-)) I will definitely return for wonderful atmosphere and delicious Austrian fare. At a minimum I know where to come for a dose of Kurbiskernöl and other such wonderful delicacies :-)) Last but not least they have a decent wine by the glass and some ok wines by the bottle. They have an extensive menu of cocktails and spirits if that is what you fancy.

Kind of interesting but absurd how the relatively small space was set up in a manner to keep it feeling open. Rational, but absurd because there were at least five seats on the hard granite (or marble) window ledge. You are provided a thin cushion, but unless your butt is nicely padded, it is of little use. Nice view of an open kitchen. Exceptional service. We tried the five course tasting menu. First, a raw-ish, cured fish (likely a sea trout) with tartar sauce, frisee, and parsley. Tasted fine. Nothing remarkable. Proportions on the palate, nothing remarkable, perhaps a bit inelegant, although it was handsome enough to appeal to the eye. Next, exquisitely thin slices of veal and thinly sliced shallots (or onions) and 'beetle beans' (they look like beetles!) with a scattering of minced chives in a rich, unctuous, briny and vinegar-ish beef broth, reminding me of mild, pastrami-like flavors. This was superb and one of my favorite dishes in Europe this year. Third, bacon jam stuffed Austrian-style dumplings sitting on beautifully prepared kraut and topped by a pointless foam. Dumpling nice on the eye and tasty with a nice chew, but unexceptional. The idea of bacon jam sounds better as an idea than it does as a thing unto itself. The kraut is key to making this work. The main dish was a seared lake trout with tiny cubes of apple or potato, a leek (maybe a bit of pea?) emulsion, slightly wilted radicchio, and another pointless foam. The cook on the fish was perfect and there was nothing wrong from conception to execution, but it was boring like a pretty person who grows up never having to say anything interesting. Final dish, dessert, a rice pudding with a plum sauce, poppy seeds, and more useless foam. Not a pretty dish by any means but quite good. Hint of something...black cardamom-ish. Including service, in toto, we're looking at around 4.4 rounded down.

Of course- when the weather is nice- like we had today, everyone wants to be outside. It's beautiful!! We started with the Obatzda- which I've had before & Love- it's so tasty!!, 'lecker', as Germans would say. It's a cheese spread, of sorts, served with onions, carrots, and pretzel. Our server was great... she spoke English, so we had no problem communicating. We all had Schnitzel for lunch & it did not disappoint!! It was very delicious- I definitely cannot wait to come back and have the same thing!! We could have walked from our hotel, but didn't realize until afterwards when we walked out to Maximilian Street and saw where we were. But, that's ok- it's in a beautiful area of Munich that I have not explored before so that was nice.

There are few things that I like more than drinking my sorry ass into oblivion before the morning…read moreturns to noon - and this is definitely the perfect place to do that. Not only is Germany famous for "Breakfast-Beer", it is is also famous for "Children's Breakfast-Beer". YAHOO! What potentially happy, inebriated youngsters - or am I "way-off" on that? Now I have nothing against underage inebriation. Lord knows that I did it myself: a lot: Maybe more than A LOT. But "Kriek Bier" ("Cherry Beer") is quite a nasty trick for kids. Kind of like fruit flavored vapes in the USA... Whoops! Anyway, this is an awesome breakfast place, for German or more western morning treats. They have stunning smoked salmon, excellent eggs made in every way, killer German apple-pancakes, and "Zupper-Gut" baked goods (like homemade chocolate Brotchen) that will make you cry with morning joy. I just recommend that if you do have a kid with you - get them Fu-king Drunk. Afterall, it is legal in Germany, and a drunk kid is friggin' hilarious.
