I would've left just one star, but I love the burritos and the food comes out quick. However... The girl who works the register, heavyset, has the worst attitude. Always scowling, never makes you feel like you're welcomed. I eat there at least twice a week.... I walked in the other morning @10:10am to grab the usual Carne Asada burrito... she was out front doing windows, when I walked in. The cooks were having their breakfast behind the bar, so I sat at the register by myself for a good five minutes maybe more just looking around waiting for somebody to come take my order. I didn't expect it from the cooks because it's not their job and they don't speak English. I don't think. However, she continue to clean all the windows while I'm sitting in there she saw me walk in. I figured OK I'll wait. She then came in and cleaned the inside of the windows while I was still standing there. The phone started ringing she didn't answer it & missed the call. She eventually comes behind the counter sulking as usual & didn't even look at me. Didn't say hi, didn't apologize for having me wait. So I turned around and walked out! I went over to FIKA and spent my money as I was starving. Not bad their breakfast sandwich. Next time if she's in there I'm not ordering. I will refuse to go into this place while she's working. Sad because like I said, I'm in there 2 to 3 times a week oh well time to look for another place. I discussed it with my wife told her what had happened and the first thing my wife said was, "oh that girl is awful in there." Lately I've been hearing many glowing reminiscences about Oscars as it is a nostalgic spot for my fellow diner. When he took me here, wanting the full experience of walking in his shoes, I copied his order: The Chicken Quesadilla. Within just a couple minutes of ordering, a hefty quesadilla was in front of me on a styrofoam plate. One bite revealed it to be precisely what a person would want out of a chicken quesadilla: tender meat, plenty of cheese, a nicely toasted tortilla. Add a drizzle of hot sauce and Mama Is Happy! I respect the humility and simplicity of the presentation. Oscars is not trying to be photogenic or trendy or precious. What they deliver is a hearty and d*mn good meal on disposable serveware. I used to have an oscars taco across from my old job I went every day for lunch. Today my team suggested we go, omg it was ever bit as good as I remember it. The the sauces, the chorizo, egg cheese burrito, the tacos were just the best. I could literally eat this place every single day and not get tired of it.. on a sidenote I probably would not have even posted this. Had I not gotten on to give a bad review to somebody else who was nowhere near as good as Oscar's taco shop I challenge people to put as many good reviews in as you possibly can we as people tend to only harp on the bad and never give recognition where it's due. I really don't understand people's taste buds sometimes. I'll eat here because it's convenient and I generally like Tex-Mex-style food, but the pricing completely loses me. A California burrito is listed at $13 and comes with steak, pico, and guacamole. Fine. But if you want the things that actually make it a burrito--cheese, sour cream, beans, and rice--you're suddenly at $22. That's an absurd price for a burrito. It might be one thing if everything were made in-house, but it really doesn't seem like that's the case. My guess is that nearly everything is pre-made, hot-table food (even the guacamole). You're essentially paying a premium for assembling Sysco-style ingredients rather than for real cooking. So yeah--$22 burritos and $22 nachos might be acceptable if the food were freshly prepared, but when it's mostly reheated components, it just doesn't add up. Two stars feels fair. read more

Grabbed a Carne Asada Quesadilla and Chips & Salsa to go and split for two. We were pleased with the amount of ingredients in the Quesadilla but wish the meat had been a bit better quality/flavor. The salsa really threw us, there's something so odd and unique about it - not at all what you'd expect. I can't put my finger on the flavor, almost something more akin to an Italian sauce with a kick than a Mexican salsa? If someone can identify the distinct flavor - please let me know! The service was quick in the middle of the day on a Saturday! Oscars is a great place to buy delicious Mexican food! My main concern is when I look online for their menu it is NOT listed with current prices. I figured $23.49 and $25.78 total with tax. Well, the subtotal was $28.50 and $29.28 with tax! Granted that is with using a credit card instead of cash since an extra percentage is added on to the total. The food and friendly service at Oscar's Tacos has made it a family favorite. Their carne asada tacos , Al pastor tacos and rolled tacos taste just like the food I grew up eating on the West coast! So I've come here a few times now and I think it's an ok place. It's definitely tex-mex style trying to be more on the mex side. They have different choices but the tacos is what I have tried. Their fish tacos are ok and their pastor is good. They have salsa bottles (red and green) and they also have the chips and salsa (you have to pay for those). The tex style shows on the serving size, the cheese container size and the prices lol. They have alcohol (beer on the bottle for what I saw) and they have fountain drinks. You go to the cashier and order your food from the menu above like a fast food and then they call your order number for you to pick it up. The space is decorated with mirror paintings and with the Mexican feel (bright colors, etc). They have a decent space but it could get crowded during lunch time. I can't recall if they have seating outside but they may. Overall is a good place to go get a quick lunch. read more

Great last minute meal downtown! The food was hot and fresh, not to mention tasty! Hit the spot perfectly. My only regret is that I walked past this place for the last couple of years on my way to some other restaurant. We had the daily special and a calicheeto burrito. We stopped at Oscar's this past Saturday after visiting a nearby pumpkin patch with a recommendation from a local. Five stars! The staff of this fast casual dining option was friendly, knowledge, and ready to give recommendations. I believe between our whole party, we ordered ever taco option. However, don't despair! That doesn't mean the menu is small. It is full of taco, burrito, quesadilla, and combination options. I ordered three tacos: Carnitas, Shrimp, and Carne Asada. Each one had specific toppings to compliment the meat. I loved how the meat (or main veggies for veggies taco) was the focus and the other flavors were complimentary. The shrimp taco was my favorite with the creamy and tangy sauce drizzled on top. The location itself is smaller, only seating about 30-40 with outside seating, but there is a beautiful lake front park right across the street with plenty of picnic tables. The owners are from SD (chula vista) originally so it's no doubt they brought some of that goodness here to TN. This is a casual Mexican restaurant where you order at the counter. The smell is amazing as soon as you go in and the salsa has a good kick. There were six of us and we all had a variety of food from taqueria to tacos to shrimp burrito. Everyone was very happy with the price and quality of the food. i would not recommend oscar's taco shop-we have repeatedly complained to them for using styrofoam for to go items. styrofoam is not biodegradable and does nothing but polite which future generations-our kids, kids kids and so on will have to deal with what we left for them! rather than using plastic/ cardboard oscar's continues to use styrofoam. thanks for being considerate about the environmental footprint oscar's leaves your customers children will have to deal with! read more

The BEST Mexican food in Tennessee. The owners are from California, and they KNOW how to make authentic Mexican food.

Food quality was highly questionable, eg dry reheated chicken, veiny shrimp, reconstituted beef. A tiny teaspoon of sour cream didn't help much. A real letdown, but at least they gave us massive quantities of rice and beans. read more

The proliferation of Oscars Taco Shop comes to the Westhaven Town Center. The food made the journey unchanged from the original location on Columbia just south of downtown Franklin. The atmosphere tried to make the journey, but got lost (purposely avoiding a border pun here) when it made the turn into Westhaven. If the weather is good you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the Westhaven lake (pond). You might even be graced (harassed) by one of the local ducks. This is a very kid friendly place. So, expect it to get loud during family feeding times. My kids love the rolled tacos and french fries. Oscars is known for their fish tacos and burritos. And, they are excellent! However, I find the Carne Asada Torta to be an under-appreciated item on the menu. read more

Was treated very poorly by a staff member when my order was wrong. She blamed me for the mistake and said she would never fix an order for me again. The nachos were super soggy. For future recommendations please serve the nachos in a separate container. The toppings cause the nachos to be soggy and chewy versus crunchy.
