I have been buying Carne Asada meat from this place for years. The last time I purchased the meat, it was bad. I went back to the store and told him the meat was bad. He argued with me that I over cooked the meat. I told him I brought the cooked meat if he wanted to see I didn't over cook it as I have been cooking it for years. I asked him for a refund or to give me some fresher meat and he would not make it right. The meat is on the high side but have always paid and supported this run down store. Reviewing a local carneceria yesterday made me remember the pure glory that is Oscar's in Blythe. Yes. Blythe. Yes, it's a real city. Yes, it's kind of a hell hole. But it's MY hell hole. Well, it was mine, but as long as Oscar's stays open, I'll call it mine. I even doubted myself at one time, thinking that I only liked Oscar's so much out of nostalgia. That is until I had some cooked up for some pals, and they all attested: Oscar's knows their carne asada. It's just different than any carne asada I've ever had. Perfectly tender and limey and just a hint of spice. So effing good. Sure, you can get all the Jarritos and Mexican candy you want at Oscar's too. This by far the ONLY place to get your carne asada! Be sure to grill it though don't bake it. You will never be able to get enough of it so, be sure to buy extra for leftovers. I usually bring it home and freeze it. Make sure to tell them and they'll put a little extra juice in the bag for you. They used to overnight it to you packed in dry ice. While on a recent road trip a few friends who are originally from Blythe told me to stop in and get some carne asada. I was skeptical on just how amazing this meat could be. I figured why not, I'm driving thru anyway on my way back to Lemoore, CA. I cooked it up on the grill the next day and I was truly impressed! I do not know what is all in this marinade but I can definitely taste the lime juice and oregano with a hint of mint. The meat is so tender from marinating in the lime juice and just smells amazing! Best tasting boot leather I've ever had. Listen, I live here. I've bought a lot of this stuff. Their meat absolutely sucks to high heaven. Beef jerky quality. Perfect marinade, the worst meat ever. But hey, don't let me sway you. Maybe chewy is your thing. It's especially good for those of you with false teeth. Just take out your teeth, gum the meat for the flavor and then spit it out.
