Fisherman's torta, battered fish taco, grilled fish taco upgraded to a "burrito"

- fisherman's torta: the torta was good. Had good flavor especially when eaten with the additional sauces they provide. It's basically a sandwich that has fish, shrimp, and pork(?) I think. Portion is enough but on the pricey end. It was about $18 I think. - battered fish taco: it was alright. Not bad but not the best taco I've ever had. It was the cheapest taco on the menu at $3something. - grilled fish taco upgraded into a burrito: would not recommend. You can add $1.50(?) to upgrade any taco into a burrito. I think they basically gave us a bigger price of fish on a larger tortilla. Not filling at all especially for the price of $9. Not really what I would expect from a burrito. Overall the food was ok. Just know that it is on the pricey end. Maybe because they serve seafood? But $7.50 for a taco is kinda insane in my humble opinion. Even with inflation I still think it's a bit much. If you don't mind spending a little more for seafood type Mexican food then the place is ok. Wouldn't really be my first choice for food.

I love Oscar's! The food never disappoints and it's always so delicious. The inside of the restaurant is clean and casual. I usually order to go if I'm by myself and sit by the beach since it's so close. The service is friendly and usually quick unless it's super busy. Can't wait to go back!

Oscar's Mexican Seafood The line was super long on a Saturday night, but these tacos are huge and totally worth the wait. I started with the Battered Fish Taco (3.75): cabbage, onion, tomato, and cilantro. It was amazing! The fish was very well done and the batter was perfectly crispy. My absolute favorite was the Surf & Turf Taco (7.50) with steak and shrimp; it was honestly insane and easily the best of the bunch. I also tried the Grilled Fish Taco (7.50) with cilantro and avocado, but I wasn't really a fan of that one compared to the others. Insane surf & turf and massive tacos

'Twas fish tacos! The especial was especially good Our orders: Battered fish taco (3.75) Ceviche with shrimp (9.50) Taco Especial (8.75) smoked fish, shrimp, scallop Tip: M-Th happy hour for battered fish taco

- large open seating area, service is relatively quick - shrimp ceviche ($9): super punchy, loved all the crunchy elements and then topped with some smooth avocado - comes with two crunchy tostadas - average ceviche! Nothing outstanding

Oscars is the go to spot for sure if you don't know... you gotta go! This place is a legit spot for tacos and more that is just steps from the Boardwalk. Don't be discouraged by the line it's worth it.

We stopped by Oscar's for dinner and really enjoyed their fish tacos. The line was a bit long so we did wait about half hour to order, but it was well worth it. I ordered a grilled fish taco and smoked fish taco and both included plenty of fish. Hubs ordered a grilled fish and their Al Pastor. The grilled fish taco included cilantro and avocado. The smoked fish taco included cabbage, pico and avocado. The grilled fish taco was cooked perfectly and was super moist. It was also amazing that the tortillas never fell apart. We've found this to be the case at a few places in San Diego, such a nice surprise.

Can't go wrong at Oscar's. I definitely miss the OG spot this place is "trendy" now. The food is still very flavorful but different vibes. Service was excellent and I enjoyed my time with my husband and brother-in-law

Oscar's is definitely worth the hype. Their battered fish tacos are always a hit. They don't skimp on the amount of fish that they give you. The pieces of battered fish are pretty thick. All the flavors blend so well together and it tastes fresh. We also ordered the shrimp ceviche which was also delicious and tasted fresh. It comes with two tostada chips. Service was excellent. The workers moved us through the line quickly and we received our orders quickly. They have a self service sauce station where you can get however much sauce you like. There are a variety of hot sauces on each table as well. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. Seems like they have a lot of space but I'm sure it gets packed often. Parking can be a struggle as it shares parking with the beach next to it. We were able to find parking in one of the spots in front of Oscar's.

I came early in the morning and tacos were good but My shrimp ceviche was half full of fish ! The shrimp ceviche is always fully shrimp and it's good every time but maybe they ran out of shrimp but didn't want to deny the order ? Or lowballed me I don't know . Receipt for evidence

I came here for the first time the other day. The line was out the door but it moves fast. I got a battered fish taco & steak/shrimp taco. The fish taco is pretty cheap less than $4 but the steak/shrimp is about $7. The creamy chipotle & cilantro sauces were really good. I would come back!

Ventured to this lovely and lively beach location on a sunny Sunday afternoon. My girlfriend and I loved the open windows right next to the beach, and the service was quick. We ordered beer battered fish and shrimp tacos with the mixed ceviche. These are some of the best fish tacos I've had, they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside without being too greasy. The salsa selection was fantastic, all three options impressed us and we enjoyed mixing them together. I came really excited to try the ceviche, but I was a disappointed as it was way too acidic, and the tostadas were too hard for my taste. Regardless I would certainly return after a day at the beach to get the tacos, which are excellent value for the price!

Absolutely must go if you are in San Diego! The line gets pretty long / feels slow but it's because they are taking orders and filling drinks/ ceviches right as you order. You only have to wait less than 10 minutes for your actual food. So don't be scared off by the line waiting to order. The octopus taco was hands down the best. So tender and great flavor. Some of the best octopus I've had. The battered fish was so crispy and the salsas were great with it. The surf and turf was probably my least favorite because the steak was a bit chewy. 3 tacos was about too much for me as they are pretty big. Horchata yummy too! Great vibe and it's just down the block from the beach! Lots of seating too.

Ask the Community - Oscars Mexican Seafood

Does Oscar's have happy hour?

I don't think so. Maybe just specials like their "Oscar's Combo" etc.

Do they always run out of chips whenever I go there?

Shit happens

What are the three sauce names, they are all so yummy?

Red, green, Habenero

Gluten Free options? - someone who worked here said the tortillas are gluten free?

2 salad options, tacos themselves do not have a gluten free option

Do they take credit cards?

Yes! But sometimes the machine is down so it is a safe bet to bring cash. Most likely it will be working just fine. :)

Do they have a happy hour?

Yes they do: M-Thu 2:30-5:30PM!

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

"Over medium" eggs came barely cooked, still had clear egg gel floating around. The table next to us had the same issue. The fried chicken, which is beautiful looking, was strangely flavorless. Another table was also talking about this issue. Bacon was way overcooked as well. I also really dislike when food timing for a table is way off. I rather it stay in the kitchen under a heat lamp and come together rather that spend 5 minutes staring at my food being polite. So, for a fun "wow that's a ton of food" experience this is it.
