My new home away from home! Although....it isn't very far *away* from my home...which is why I love it! Oscar's has gotten quite a bit of my "New Homeowner, who dis" money...and it will without a doubt get much, much more of it. It's got the old style, neighborhood local feel. And I love that. But that means your shouldn't expect a pristine, floor-display laden mad house. It is a bit crowded at times, with lawnmowers to be tuned up and rental equipment in the aisles. Who cares? Every time I have been in there, I was greeted by someone at the register even if they were busy. If they weren't actively checking someone out, they also immediately offered me assistance finding what I need. Most times I take them up on this offer. And, important to note (for me at least), it seems they offer to everyone....not just, you know, people with lady parts. They don't have *everything* you will ever need. Believe me, there is still space in my heart, my wallet, and my home for Lowe's and Home Depot. But, and mostly because this place is 2 blocks away from my house, I will ALWAYS start by looking here. I was able to get the right flood light bulbs for my outdoor light, a wrench at a moment's notice when water was spewing out of my bathtub faucet, a single little curtain rod bracket for $1 preventing me from having to buy a whole new rod set. I wouldn't recommend you go out of your way to come here. And they have mom 'n' pop shop hours: Monday-Saturday 8:30am-5:30pm. So nine-to-fivers might have less opportunity to come here. But they are here, they are helpful, they are affordable and they are local. In fact, if you are looking for a handyman or plumber or someone to do a specific homeowner-y type task, they might have recommendations for you! Think of it this way, and you won't be disappointed: Oscar's is like a DIY-er's tool box, rather than a box store. read more

I absolutely love Oscars hardware. This is truly a neighborhood hardware store. It has a nice selection of everything. Also a great place to find older style repair parts. Pricing is good. The service is always great. I like to go to Oscars if I'm in a time crunch I need to find parts quickly. I don't have to browse through endless isles of furniture's. read more

This is your Germantown non-Home Depot. They don't have the 40 kinds of ceiling fan. They don't custom cut your wood. And they don't have the buttons in the aisle to press when you want to summon the orange-vested person half an acre away. But they do supply key cutting service. They do carry most flavors of nail, screw, bolt. They do have some dudes by the counter in the front that can answer most questions. And they are right down Shelby Street, just a few steps away from a window that offers soft-serve. read more

We purchased a house in 2017, just up the street from Oscar's Hardware. This store has become like a second home to us (and by us I mean B, as I have only actually visited once) as we have been doing small renovations, working outside of our home in our yard, and purchasing lots of household items. We shop at lots of different hardware and home goods stores around town, but Oscar's is awesome! This store has never given us any issues finding items, and the staff have always been friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable in finding items and assisting with any other needs. Great place and I highly recommend. However, I've been twice in the past two weeks and they've been closed before 5:30 which is what time it's says they close on Apple Maps. I now see on google it says they close at 5. Please ensure your hours are reflected correctly and are consistent on all platforms so customers are not making unnecessary trips. read more

It would be a great neighborhood hardware store if it didn't close before most people in the neighborhood get home from work. So I came home the other day and my screen door had got caught by the wind, and was all broken on the bottom. I'm going to tell you a little secret... I am not good at fixing things. I called Oscar's and described what happened and they were able to tell me over the phone, the part I was looking for. Being in the neighborhood, I walked over with the pups and asked if I could bring them in. They were so dog friendly! They helped me find exactly what I needed. I looked up later how much it was at a bigger hardware store, and it was a few dollars cheaper here! We (me and the dogs) will be back for sure! Great shop dumb hours. For a do-it-yourself oriented neighborhood hardware shop they pick funny hours to be open. If you work 9-5 this is a weekend only supply shop. They have most of what you need for small projects around the house, and the guys working there are great. But if the hours aren't right, its unusable. read more

Like the other reviewer I much prefer to spend my money at small local stores and businesses instead of larger corporate chains. Oscars is exactly that. A local store run by good Germantown people. The selection there is great for being a neighborhood hardware store. Paul, who I believe is the owner actually even made us some custom paint one time. Oscars does pretty much everything you would expect from a hardware store, they cut keys, mix paint colors, repair lawn mowers and of course sell tools and lawn equipment. They may not have everything that a big place like Lowes has but 99% of the time I can find what I need there. They have all of the basics and even some less common items and I feel that their prices are reasonable and as I said before I'm always happy to support a local neighborhood business! read more

Some of the workers appear arrogant or disinterested. The fact that they make political statements with apparel or stickers or buttons is not a good business practice. The product selection is good and it's convenient to my home, but they need to leave their attitudes and political leanings at home!!! read more

I went in to purchase a lock, which were locked in a case. I stood there for over 5 minutes in which several employees walked right past me without a customer engagement. Just needed a lock for work and felt it would be a good place to get one. I was wrong about that. read more

I loved that this is a family owned business and they were super helpful in locating what I needed. What I did NOT appreciate today, was that the cashier was wearing a button on his shirt that was handmade with ballpoint pen saying "The only dumb question is the one you don't ask, or if you vote for a democrat."To top that off, he was NOT wearing a mask at all. He had it wrapped around his neck way below his chin but absolutely never put it on with many people in line and milling around the store. I'm disgusted and will never go back. read more

As a tinkerer and fixer-upper, I know how tempting can be to just default to heading to Lowe's when you need things for the house. I refuse to do so if I can avoid it because I know that if I need real advice and recommendations then the best place to go is your local hardware store. I recently moved to Louisville, giving up my local hardware store in West Virginia and was immediately worried I would not find the same thing in Louisville. I soon found Oscar's Hardware near my house and after a handful of visits I already have an immediate rapport with several of the employees there, knowing that I can walk in the door with whatever job I'm trying to take on that day and they've got me covered. They're always super kind and everyone there is incredibly knowledgeable, and if they don't know they'll ask another employee who might. So rather than drive 20 minutes to the big box to save a few bucks, I'll gladly spend a few dollars more to go five blocks over to Oscar's. If I had to choose a couple things that were local businesses that you should always support I'm always going to say restaurants, nurseries (plants), and hardware stores. read more

I like to go here for odds and ends rather than driving out to a big box store. Not only do I save travel time, but I also know that I am buying the correct thing thanks to the helpful staff. The prices are of course a little higher (not as much as you'd think though), but that's to be expected.
