Ace Hardware is a kind of chain that is not a chain. I grew up with my Dad shopping at our local Ace Hardware store for all those little bits and bobs that a home owner needs. Most stores are locally owned in what seems to be a franchise type thing so YMMV on any given store.
There are the big box home improvement stores where yes, you can find basically anything but there is added travel time, hassle and well, the store is just so big that it makes it hard to walk in and grab just an item or two and get checked out within a few minutes. There are local small hardware stores that have a good selection of the basics and the knowledge to help on projects but don't necessarily have the item you need or the weekend hours etc.
I've been by here a couple times and give this store my thumbs up.
Service:
Either the store associates were bored out of their minds (unlikely as it has been moderately busy when I have been there), I am much more attractive with my pony-tail and polo shirt with old jeans than I have previously realized myself to be (not likely either but hey, it would be flattering I guess), OR the store associates are actually interested in providing good service. Yep, that is most likely.
I was looking for some wild bird feed for example. Instead of just vaguely waving a hand in the direction of the aisle where the bird feed is located, a worker stopped by to ask what type of birds I wanted to feed and what feed I was looking for. There was a brand name feed on the shelf which I picked up and the worker stopped to see if he could find the lower priced Ace brand that wasn't on the shelf and when he could not find it in stock, gave me the day of their next stock shipment in case I wanted to come back for the larger, less expensive food.
Products:
Most of your typical home and garden upkeep needs but not the large appliances, lumber and such that the big box stores have. Tools, light bulbs, cleaning supplies etc. Basically unless you are building a new structure or redoing a kitchen or laundry, then you can probably find what you need here.
Access and Parking:
Private lot. Can be difficult to make a left turn either into or out of though. A bit of patience is all it takes. read more
