My husband and I spent some time trying to find a new place to try for a Wednesday date night, and decided on Oscars after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. So glad we found it! The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, despite there being a family with children nearby. The children went into the play area and that was the last my husband and I heard from them. Our waitress, Amy, was brilliant, regularly offering drinks and taking away our empty glasses, etc. She was very friendly and attentive.
For our starters I had the chicken wings with "Louisianna hot sauce" (although, it's really New York buffalo sauce ;) ) and they were amazing. The skin was crispy and there was the perfect amount of sauce and blue cheese dressing to go with it. I seriously could have sat with a plate of them for my main as well. We also had the haggis parcels with plum sauce and those were great as well, very crispy on the outside with the spicy soft haggis center and sweet sauce to go with it. It was my husband's favorite part of the meal.
My main was the highlander chicken which was the only dissapointing part of my experience. While the chicken was cooked well, I felt it was under-seasoned and the sauce was too watery/thin. It would've been better for me with a traditonal whisky cream sauce, the pepper sauce for steaks, or even the same sauce just a bit thicker. My husband had the BBQ burger which he also enjoyed, but added that he would have preferred streaky bacon instead of rashers. Otherwise, the burger had a really nice flavor.
For dessert, we ordered the caramel apple cake and it brought the meal right back up for me. They call it a cake on the menu, despite the fact it's definitely a pie or tart, but that really doesn't matter because it is DELICIOUS. The caramel apple pie + vanilla ice cream = heaven. The only thing it needed was a bit of squirty cream, but that's me just being picky. It seriously was gorgeous.
Overall, it was a really nice experience at Oscar's and we'll definitely be back with family in the future! read more
