I'm very disappointed with my experience with James Smith Handyman & Plumbing LLC. I had an…read moreappointment scheduled more than two weeks in advance, but ultimately declined service because of the lack of communication and the uncertainty surrounding the pricing. When I initially scheduled the appointment, I sent a photo of my shower handle so the company could determine whether an extension kit could be installed and provide some guidance regarding the expected cost. I was told the scheduler Myka would follow up with me, but I never received a call. About a week later, I called the office myself. The scheduler said she remembered the situation but had not received an answer from her boss. There was no apology for the lack of follow-up, and I was left waiting for another callback. Despite already having an appointment scheduled, I still never received the promised call. The day before my appointment, I received an automated reminder text, and I responded that the company needed to improve its communication and return customers' calls. Myka then contacted me regarding my message, but the message she left felt passive-aggressive rather than focused on resolving my concerns. At that point, I was told they had been unable to locate the extension kit, but that they could install one if I found it myself. I was also given different information about the service fee than what I had previously been quoted. Additionally, I was told that labor would depend on the job, but no one could provide any estimate of what the labor might cost. I understand that final pricing can depend on the work required, but after waiting more than two weeks and repeatedly having to follow up myself, I expected clearer communication and more consistent information. Because of this experience, I chose to decline the service. Unfortunately, I would not feel comfortable recommending this company to others.

Matt from James Smith Handyman & Plumbing LLC came to my home to install two ceiling fans that I…read morehad purchased through Lowe's. Upon arrival, he stated that his work order only showed one fan installation and said he was not going to contact his company to clarify the discrepancy. I contacted Lowe's Installation Services, and the representative informed me that Matt needed to contact Crume Installations to resolve the issue. While I was on the phone with Lowe's, Matt repeatedly told me to hang up the call, even though he had not received any new information regarding the installation. I declined because I wanted to ensure the work order was handled properly. Lowe's ultimately contacted Crume Installations directly, and the issue was resolved. Matt installed both ceiling fans as requested. My concern is not with the quality of the installation but with Matt's professionalism at the beginning of the appointment. I found his communication abrupt and unnecessarily directive. Although his attitude improved later in the visit, the initial interaction left a negative impression.

We scheduled an appointment with the home warranty company and waited patiently for the service call from another contractor. It never came. Saturday morning came, and on the phone with warranty company and their contractor couldn't make it till Tuesday. Really? I called Choice Plumbing mid-Saturday morning and Nick answered the phone and the 2nd ring! He said they had a hot water heater in stock and could install today! After going several rounds with the warranty company we finally received out of network approval. Now it was 3pm on a Saturday and I was a little worried of going another night without hot water. I called Nick again and he said Alex would pick it up and be over to install it later today. Again, I was a little worried because it was already 3pm on a Saturday and figured they we only working 8-hours. Alex showed up later that evening, after hours, on a Saturday, and installed the 50 gallon hot water heater. By 9pm we were good to go, install complete and we had hot water! Professional, fast, courteous, and patient is what CHOICE PLUMBING is a lot about. I will never call another plumber. Thanks Alex and Nick! Much appreciated!

I have used Harvey Baker Plumbing for almost 20 years and have usually been very satisfied with the…read moreservice. This time was no exception given the technician, Juan, was amazing. He properly took care of an outside faucet issue that was "repaired" previously 24 months before. I noticed my outside faucet was slightly spraying water from the "repair part" recommended two years prior. In April 2024, I called Harvey Baker Plumbing to fix this faucet as it was leaking from the knob at the time. A young gentleman came and said he did not have the part on his vehicle to replace it (something to do with the pipe size), but he could "repair" it. However, I would not be able to turn the water on and off from the faucet knob. He said the nozzle at the end of the hose would serve as the on/off mechanism. When I discovered the current leak, I called and the receptionist said she could get someone out between 12-2 the next day. I explained the previous situation above and said I definitely want the faucet "replaced" this time. She looked up my previous invoice and said she would note on the ticket the faucet should be replaced rather than repaired. Next day, she called again and said she could have the technician come out earlier if I was available. I said I was and Juan came 15 minutes later, a little after 10am. He was a joy to work with, smiling and providing great conversation and expertise! I explained everything and he said he had the necessary part to rectify the leak. He did a great job. When I got the invoice, I noticed the parts only cost $33 compared to the "repair" part of $10. I was surprised the previous gentleman couldn't drive 4 miles to the office to get the necessary part and recommended the "repair" instead. I estimated I could have saved approximately $200 of labor charges had the work been properly completed the first time. I would have requested the previous technician get the necessary part had I known the difference in part costs was minimal. At least the "repair" lasted 2 years. I will probably continue to use Harvey Baker Plumbing in the future, but I'll make sure I request a more seasoned technician like Juan next time. Final note - Harvey Baker Plumbing now charges a 3% credit card fee on the invoice, which was not their practice previously. It was not a big deal to me ($7.75), and I understand a family business would prefer cash or a check. If I have a major plumbing issue in the future, at least now I am aware of the added fee.
