I have been here many times and have never had an issue until tonight. Tonight's experience was so bad I will never give them my business again. We were sat for hibachi and from the very beginning there were problems. The chef was having a hard time cracking eggs and the first two were unsuccessful as he got egg shell in them. The last egg was flipped off the hibachi spilling my FULL GLASS OF WATER over my date,myself and inside of my purse that was hanging on the back of my chair. The chef apologized profusely which was appropriate however that was where the customer service ended. Since the manager did not come out when the incident happened I thought he would come out at the end. After the chef was done cooking still no manager till finally some one came over right before the bills came and asked if everything went alright which means no one told them of the incident at our table. The woman walked away and said she would find out what happened. 15 minutes later a manger comes out and apologizes and gives a $10 dollar gift card and jokes about the incident. I thought that the nightmare Customer service was over....boy was I wrong. Then our checks came I was confused when my date still received his check as at most restaurants the dinner would have been comped as there was a serious issue. I spoke with three different people and not one of them offered me any basic hospitality that a normal restaurant would offer. The last woman I spoke with after I told her how upset I was at their lack of customer service asks me "well were you able to eat your food". I was beyond angry at this point and told them I would never offer them my business again. I still cannot believe the ridiculous customer service offered at this restaurant. read more

I live on the Chesapeake bay and as a result I'm a bit of a seafood snob, but I must say that the soft crab appetizer at Osaka was one of the best things I have ever eaten. It was perfectly fried in a crisp, "barely there" batter and served with a simple dipping sauce. Sublime. read more

Nothing special, food was OK. Everytime the door opened I got a nice gust of cold wind. The menu they gave to me was a check list I didn't even have to correspond with the waitress which was cool and also felt very impersonal. Not to mention the service was too fast almost like I was getting pushed out the door and the rolls were too loose my cheeks were like a chipmunks cheeks everytime I took a bite. I thought i did a review of Osaka already. I see i have not. Well they remodeled and just reopened a week ago. I have not seen the place yet. i hope to get there this Sunday for half price sushi (hopefully they still have it). So lets start there. They have half price sushi on Sundays. get there early it is almost always packed. though the place is big, they have a lot of Hibachi tables, and they take up a lot of room. I hope they fixed this when they remodeled. the place is/was kind of tight. The bar area is a squeeze, but nice and long. and they always seem to have far to much grey goose on hand. They can be pricey, so be prepared. if you are going to half price sushi, it won't be to bad, but if you go for Hibachi, bring a card or a wad of $20's. It will be worth it. Newly renovated the interior of the restaurant is clean and simple. The new decoration seems to be inspired largely by a New York City style with modern lighting and rich, deep colors. The service lacks the promptness and attention I enjoy. I cannot say how the hibachi is because I have yet to have it after they reopened. The bar or the sushi bar is a nice place to eat if you are looking to sit close to someone you have never met but they will serve sushi at any of the grill settings as well. The sushi rolls are usually pretty small but also not over priced. The bar menu is extensive and with its location being downtown its convenience is helpful. You felt the but and here it is. It takes a chinese freakin' new year to get your food and it is never spectacular!!! If you are going to go, if you are going to subject yourself to almost inevitable mediocrity here are a couple suggestions. Went here for sushi with a friend. I have`nt been there since it was the Robata. We ordered Spider roll, rainbow roll,spicy tuna roll, eel roll, and garlic tuna. The garlic tuna was small compared to the order you get at Katana in Wilkes Barre, and the Spider roll was`nt as good as the old Robata. The Eel roll was a little different than the Robata`s too. Rainbow was good. All in all it was ok. They did remodel, which was a big improvement over the old Robata, which was dark, worn and somewhat dirty. I still prefer Katana (Wilkes Barre) and Kyoto (Clarks Summit). read more

Went for some Hibachi after stopping at two other "Hibachi" places that were all you can eat buffets. Chef was professional with all the utensil skills you would expect and the food was cooked perfectly. Add to that a great server who took our family picture with his camera and then handed the picture to us on the way out. As good as any Hibachi I've ever eaten at. read more

Ate here a few times, service is always fantastic. Friendly and quick. Have had both sushi and hibachi, both are excellent. Sushi is the reason we keep going back though. The lobster dragon roll is one of our favorites. If the Superman roll is available it is the best by far!! Very good spicy spider roll With fresh cucumber. Philadelphia roll is a safe go to. Absolutely awful. There was a staple in my daughter's food. We had a long wait, and our waitress was pretty rude about it. When the food actually did get cooked, like I said, there was a staple in my daughter's meal. Our waitress DID NOT apologize about the staple or offer to get us a new meal, and she did not even tell the manager. She asked if we were able to get it out. This is a shame because I used to come here quite a bit, but over the past year it has gone way downhill. Other local hibachi options are, by far, much better. read more

Went with coworkers for lunch and haven't been back since. The server argued with me when I asked for my sushi to be rolled with brown rice, and said they would not make it that way. I've been numerous other places and they always substitute brown rice when I ask (I'm paying for it aren't I?). Needless to say the server won because I didn't have time to argue or find another place to eat on my lunch hour. I ordered 3 rolls and every single one of them fell apart. My coworkers rolls also fell apart, and getting drink refills was like pulling teeth. read more

Best sushi in the city of Scranton. Service is excellent and the rolls, maki, and sashimi are high quality for a city of this size.

Is it the best sushi and hibachi in town? Probably not, but it definitely is a decent place to go. I love the atmosphere, and how it's right in the heart of downtown Scranton. The place is often packed on a Friday or Saturday night, so try and make some reservations if you can. If you have a smaller party with you, it's always entertaining to sit at the sushi chefs stand and watch them make all the different varieties of sushi. Based on reviews we went in at a little after 9pm. Waited at at table for over 10 minutes hoping to get service. Then moved to the bar and waited for at least another 5 minutes before we left. Two people were constantly behind the bar but they could not care less about us, never even glanced at us. I was tempted to knock a chair over when we left so at least the could hear us leave, but I figured I would take to high road and leave a bad yelp review. What really sucked was that since it was late, we were not able to eat at another restuarant in town by 930pm and had to go to eat gas station snacks/food. read more

Osaka is on par with other local sushi restaurants. It is conveniently located downtown and has recently been remodeled. The sushi is above average and the hibachi is delicious. My one complaint is the inattentiveness of the wait staff. I always seem to be waiting on a drink refill or my check. If they'd focus on improving the service, I'd have no problem recommending Osaka. read more

I was here on Sunday night and the food and service was excellent. I ordered Salmon hibachi and the chef was very talented and the waitress was very kind. There was a young waiter shadowing the waitress and she was training him and he was very polite and did a good job. The place was very clean and looked nice. The only complaint I have is that for a short period of time they were playing extremely loud music other than that everything was great. read more

I have lived in ocean towns and have eaten sushi in some of the hippest cities in America, and the best sushi I have ever had is from Osaka. I used to go here weekly with my friend when we lived closer to each other. Every single roll I have tried here is delicious. I usually go with the specials because they are interesting and fun. Our eyes were always bigger than our stomachs. Believe me that one full roll is usually filling enough! I had their hibachi once, which is also great. (Granted, it's pretty difficult to mess up hibachi.) I'm not specifying an attire because this location is appropriate for jeans or a dressy evening. Here's a tip: If you have a choice between sitting at the bar, a table, or at the sushi bar, choose the sushi bar. They serve those sitting there faster. read more

Love Osaka. Really good hibachi. Great sushi. The volcano roll is unbelievably good. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices. If you go there in the winter and plan on sitting at the bar go to the left when you walk in the door. My wife and I froze eating dinner at the bar there in February as every time the door opened(which is often because they're usually busy) we were hit with a blast of arctic air. Otherwise, nothing to complain about. Would recommend it to anyone who likes Japanese food(who doesn't?). read more

Not the best sushi, but for the area, I guess it's as good as you can get. This restaurant should rise above the local cuisine and deliver high grade sushi, they have the right ambiance and staff to get it done. Currently, it's mediocre at best. Also, they are destroying bar traffic in cold weather because they do not have a draft guard at the front door, which sits right at the bar edge, allowing a cold rush of air chilling the bar area with every entrance and exit. read more

My family went to Osaka for my nephews 12th birthday. The restaurant was jammed, but we had a reservation. We had a short wait as they prepared the hibachi, and were seated and the service experience commenced. We had our drink orders taken quickly, and then some placed sushi orders so it would arrive with the hibachi dinner. Everthing was excellent from the service, sushi, and hibachi dinner as well as a wonderful birthday greeting for my nephew. Total class act from start to finish, and it was obvious as to how busy the restaurant was early on a Friday. Don't miss this experience you will be thrilled! read more

So I really enjoy hibachi so anytime I find a restaurant I always want to try it out. However, I this restaurant is not one I would return to. To start off the atmosphere here is very awkward. I wasn't sure I was in the right place by walking through the door. First majority of the higher tables are propped up on random magazines to prevent rocking and you aren't quickly greeted by a host. Against my better judgment I continued to walk in and was asked by a bartender what I needed. Then a hostess popped out and proceeded to take me and my party to our seat. The waitress was very nice she is the reason I give 2 stars really. The food was not well seasoned, my rice was crunchy, pieces of my scallop was over cooked/ rubbery and they do not use shrimp for the games you play when catching the food. This restaurant lacks tasteful decor and you can actually taste the oil in your noodles. Not a place I would recommend. read more

I've been here a few times and the one thing that stands out the most is the hospitality. It's very welcoming and relives any stress when it comes to ordering. Started with the pepper tuna. The only thing i felt that was subpar. Sushi deluxe for my main, and it was amazing. The quality and texture was superior compared to what I've had at other local places. Unfortunately, I devoured the sushi before asking what it was, but it was just that good. (I also mistakenly sat at the bar, albeit not a bad thing) I enjoy specialty rolls, but when I come back here I will likely stick with the standard sushi since I enjoyed it so much. Lastly, I had the sweet shrimp and salmon roe, new territory for me. Presentation and quality were very nice, however did not align with my pallet. The sweet shrimp was worth their adventure, but I will go with the stand ebi in the future. The Ikuara was very nice, but Ibiko really stands out in texture and taste, imo. As far as drinks go, the non traditional ones stand out the most, but the mojito went through a blender and was heavy on the mixers, but I'm comparing it to a traditional, authentic mojito which takes a bit of traveling. They used to have great sushi rolls, but they lost a sushi chef and it seemed to fall quickly after that. Besides the sushi chef that left, the wait staff/owner seemed rude but we put up with it because they had tasty and big rolls. The rolls got smaller and we were done. Osaka was about a 5 minute drive, and without hesitation, we ALWAYS pick Komaqi in mountain top over Osaka. The 20 minute drive to Komaqi is worth it after you experience it. If you enjoy sushi, treat yourself to big, yummy rolls at Komaqi instead of the small, overpriced rolls with rude service at Osaka. read more
