I was referred to an orthopedic surgeon here who prescribed remaining on the Meds already given for my painful sciatica. A day later the pain had traveled down my leg. The surgeon referred me to their pain specialist who I saw the following day, a Thursday. This Dr did an examination and recommended an epidural injection. However, these injections are only given on Wednesday so I had to wait almost a week for that procedure. Because the procedure was not successful I was told to return in another week for a second jab, and that there are no other doctors available in the meantime even though I am in considerable pain. This is absolutely ridiculous. A pain specialist, by definition, should be available six days a week, if not seven and if no other doctor is available the patient should be referred elsewhere to get the relief they are seeking. read more

I am an Ob/Gyn physician who developed spinal cord compression and loss of function of my right leg (i.e. foot drop, leg weakness and severe sciatica) after over-vigorous slapshots playing ice hockey. This was from a HUGE vertebral disc herniation at L4-L5. Dr. Gitelman and his staff immediately recognized the seriousness of my physical disability and spinal cord compression and arranged a late Thursday afternoon/evening MRI. The lumbar laminectomy with extensive disc removal and decompression of the spinal cord was done within a week. I had an amazing recovery with being able to walk properly without a limp or leg pain a few hours after surgery. Now it is two months later and I am completely normal--no pain, weakness, or numbness of any kind. I am back at the gym and doing free skating (no hockey yet). My family practitioner was doing a routine physical recently and could not believe how mobile and pain-free I was. Dr. Gitelman not only trained at one of the best spinal surgery fellowships in the world (UCLA), but is a compassionate and highly communicative physician (the type you don't see much of these days). The practice he is in, Orthopedic Associates of Stamford, is beyond excellent in so many ways: no red tape trying to schedule appointments or ask questions, the latest imaging and electronic health records, well-trained staff, and a beautiful office with onsite physical therapy and rehabilitation. I traveled 1.5 hours to see him (I live in West Hartford, CT) and would have gone even farther to get this level of care. read more

I have been a patient of OAS for about a year. I am under the care of Dr. Tracy Schmidt for hip issues, as well as Dr. Andrew Illig for pain management. Both Docs could not be better in terms of both their care and empathy. I also believe the efficiency of the front office and their new beautiful facility are state of the art. I have been a patient of both ONS and Hospital for Special Surgery, and feel most confident with the folks at OAS. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Edward Feliciano for several years. When I came to him I had bone on bone on both of my knees. Dr. E. Feliciano did both of my total knee replacements in 2018, which was very successful. When I became his patient I informed him that my case would be a New York City Workers Compensation Case. When the time came for me to have my percentages of both knees, Dr. E Feliciano had relocated to NJ. I was then told that Dr. Russel Cavallo had replaced him in this practice. The first time I met him I could feel he did not want my case, but he had no choice in the matter. When the NYSWC tried to call him either he did not receive the message from his office manager or he was too busy to do a phone interview. Because of this, I lost several thousand dollars. His office manager stated that he was not notified (which was a total lye). In my interview with the judge, this is what she stated Dr. Cavallo totally ignored the courts complete. This because a legal record for his unprofessional with the judge stated that he NEVER RESPOND TO THE COURT FOR MY CASE to have a phone interview. read more

I was not impressed. I chose to go here for my ankle after falling down some stairs as they take walk-ins. I saw Dr. Schmidt and he could not have been less helpful. He was not thorough nor does he have a good bedside manner. At my 10 day follow up (for a grade 2 sprain), his advice was just continue to take it easy, that I didn't need to return nor did I need physical therapy. As a pretty active person, I wanted more specific guidance than that for my recovery so I went elsewhere. I do not plan to return here for any future orthopedic needs. read more

I've been a patient at OAS for almost a full year. My insurance company recently changed, and I went in early morning to get my fractured wrist taken a look at. Clumsy me-- I forgot my new insurance card. The receptionist gave me the option of doing "self pay," even though I had insurance because I could not "prove it" and they couldn't go off of anything. They couldn't change it from self pay to add insurance info after the fact. We trust these doctors with our health and our lives and pay insane amounts to insurance... And this still happens. They just lost a good and previously very happy patient. read more

The receptionist staff is awful and rolls their eyes at you. I have never been harassed this way by the receptionist staff over a bill that they presented to me for the first time! I went there for a checkup last week. The receptionist said that I have a balance due of $500. This was the first time I had seen this bill. I had yet to see a bill in the mail for this balance or even the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from the insurance company. Given the high amount, I said I will pay once I get the bill in the mail and after reviewing the EOB, which is the normal way of handling bills from the Doctor's office. The receptionist continued to harass me about how I must pay right away and rolled her eyes at me 3 times when I said that I needed time to review the balance due amount. She said that she is 100% accurate about the bill and it must be paid right away. If I had questions about the bill, I must call my insurance company right away to address my questions and then pay the bill. The policy of not billing your patients and requesting payment on the spot after giving them a printout of the bill is ridiculous, It needs to be revised and the rude receptionist needs to go. We live in a country that focuses on polite customer service. No rudeness, not rolling their eyes at the patient. The doctor who originally told me about this place told me that it wasn't her preferred choice. Now I know why. I only went there because it accepts my insurance. read more

This is a very poorly run medical office. They book far too many patients than they can see in a timely manner. Each time I have gone, I have had to wait between 30 and 70 minutes past the time of my appointment. This is unacceptable and I won't be going back. They seem to be very popular, based on how crowded the waiting room is, but save yourself some time and find another doctor. read more

Terrible costumer service and waiting time. I had an appointment scheduled for 2:30 pm. I left the office 3:10 pm and I didn't want to wait anymore. They charge you up front for the copay and deductible. I just left the office because I was tire of waiting and seems that I was going to wait a lot of longer. First time and last time going there. I do not refer that place to anybody else due to the poor costumer service and extremely long waiting time. read more

I went into OAS about a year and a half ago to get a shoulder injury diagnosed. The first time I went in, there was a 30 minute wait, after which I was informed that the shoulder specialist I was supposed to see was still in surgery. I ended up leaving without even seeing a doctor. Next time I came in, the shoulder doctor I'd arranged to see was again unavailable, so I ended up seeing a different doctor who wasn't even a shoulder surgeon! He said that I probably had a labrum issue. However, as I was not about to schedule a surgery on the word of a doctor who did not specialize in my particular issue, I made another appointment to see the SAME shoulder specialist...yet again, the shoulder surgeon was not available when I arrived. On my third visit, I finally saw a shoulder surgeon, but my trust in OAS had already been completely eroded by the series of missed appointments, lack of concern for my time, and the relatively downtrodden appearance of many patients (made me think this place was an option for those with very bad insurance or something). I STRONGLY encourage anyone with orthopedic issues to check out Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Specialists (particularly their Greenwich location). Months after my OAS debacle, I made an appointment at ONS Greenwich after relaying my dismay with OAS to a colleague. I saw Dr. Paul Sethi, who along with his back office was FANTASTIC. After seeing me promptly and answering all my questions over several diagnostic and pre-op visits, he ended up doing my surgery (it was a labrum tear after all) and after a bit more PT I look forward to getting back on the tennis court this summer. I sincerely hope that these OAS is not the only local ortho option available under your insurer...if so, you should suck it up and make the trip to another medical group. Geez...I'm just glad I didn't go through with the surgery there...I might have ended up with a knee replacement! Maybe some people have had good experiences here, but mine were simply awful. read more

Don't go here. They are too big. Doctors don't call you back even if you are in severe pain. They don't call in prescriptions when they say they will and staff is overworked. The WC PERSON is terrible. SHE IS NOT HELPFUL AND SHE IS NOT NICE. SHE is not a nice person to deal with read more
