like many of the other reviewers, i am ghastly pale and have tried every option out there to get a natural looking tan - lotions/foams, fake baking, Mystic tans, you name it. nothing compares to Ortanic! from the customized color you can create to the friendly staff, i can't say enough good things about it. if you're thinking about trying it, just do it! you won't regret it. my only complaint is the price - it's hard to justify spending $50 on a tan that only lasts a few days. nonetheless, i love it. read more

After a long winter, it felt so nice to be tan, even for a week! Gretchen was so nice and professional, which makes this process (being nearly naked in front of a total stranger) less awkward. I'm fair skinned, I have light eyes and hair and wish more than anything I could be tan all yearlong. Since I'm not working at a resort in Cabo and rather living in Chicago I started going to tanning beds last winter. While I enjoyed having a "glow" for the grim winter months I felt terrible about the potential harm I was doing to my light skin. I have steered away from spray tans my entire life due to seeing friends return from their appointments with streaks, orange, and tears streaming down their face. However, last month (realizing summer was over) I took a leap of faith, ditched the tanning beds and hit up Ortanic due to the great reviews. It was FANTASTIC. No streaks, I came out looking like I had just been snoozing on a tropical beach for a week, totally natural, and a super easy and relaxing experience. It does have a little bit of a smell and leans toward the pricey side if you're looking to maintain the tan but it's a wonderful way to keep a healthy glow for the winter. I have now had two great experiences at Ortanic, and would definitely recommend Ortanic to others, especially fair skinned people. I have super fair Irish skin, and wanted to get a little glow for my wedding. I was really worried that I would look too dark or super fake, but I read the reviews on Yelp and thought I'd give Ortanic a try. The first time I went just to do a trial. The woman who did the spray tan was really nice, chatted with me the whole time, and did not make me feel at all awkward about being mostly nude. Then I went home. They had told me not to sweat, but it was 100 degrees out and I had to bake a birthday cake in my unairconditioned apartment, so I sweated and my skin started looking all streaky. I totally freaked out, couldn't sleep at all, and just waited until 3:30 AM when the designated 8 hour waiting period would be over and I could shower. Turns out, there was nothing to worry about--the streaks washed away, and the tan looked perfect. I went back a few days before my wedding and the results were similarly great. No one commented on how I looked tan, which just shows how natural it looked, but in the photos you can definitely see the difference--I look much more healthy than I typically look in photos. I really did not think that the spray tan was going to work for me, but it definitely does at Ortanic. In fact, I'm going back in a few weeks to get one for my honeymoon! read more

Not super-pleased with my results. I know my way around a spray tan, and Ortanic just didn't live up to the expectations. To start off, the technician seemed uninterested and even yawned while I was telling her what I wanted. She told me it's all "custom" but I didn't see her mix anything up, and I really felt uneasy going into the spray tan because I didn't feel like she knew what I wanted, nor cared to. All in all, it was an OK tan (she had to re-apply a second coat after I asked her to), but only because I received discount for being a first-time customer. Shawn did a wonderful job on my spray tan. She gave me the perfect shade of bronze for my fair complexion. I was beyond impressed at how well my tan wore- I've got sensitive dry skin so my tans normally will wear off and look patchy, didn't see this at all. All you fair ladies out there, this is THE place to go. I planned my wedding in Chicago from NYC, and when I was in town for a planning trip, I went to Benefit for a trial that ended up very, very orange despite them using their lightest shade. I was a bit discouraged since I didn't want to use a tanning bed or do myself, and I didn't want to look back at my wedding pictures years from now and look orange. I am so happy I found Ortanics. The shade ended up being perfect and gave me a "glow" without even a hint of orange. It was better than I ever could have imagined. I just had an airbrush tan at Ortanic here on Clark. Kat was an expert in explaining how this works and what to do while getting the application. I am slightly self concious/shy - but I didnt feel like that while getting the tan sans bikini top. I appreciate being made to feel comfortable immediately. I have had one prior airbrush tan while in Arizona, which was awesome. So this was only my second one. But I'm sold on this over Mystic Tan any day! I can appreciate that they cusomize the color to you, and ask what kind of tan you'd like - natural, vacation or darker..basically whatever level of tan you are looking for they can get it for you. FWIW I did not want to look natural, I won't lie. I wanted a vacation look. And I feel I've gotten that. Of course I still have a few hours for this to fully develop, but I already feel fab with my new color on. Parking was a breeze, you can do street or in their garage (but I don't know how much that costs since I did street parking for $3.50/1 hour. Plenty of time tho, so no worries.) The actual space inside Fitness Formula Club on the 6th floor. Inside you'll find a bright, welcoming waiting area. You'll fill out a short questionnaire on your first visit and then Kat explains how the process works and then off we went into the actual treatment room. There is an actual spray type booth where the application happens. I will tell you the airbrush application can be a bit chilly, but you get used to it shortly. Kat expertly applied the tan in 2 coats and she instructs you how to move so she can get you a beautiful tan. After about 15, maybe 20 minutes - you are glowing. She does dry you off with the airbrush and applies some baby powder to your areas where you might crease or sweat. I then got dressed, and Kat did suggest next time I came, to wear loose clothing so we didn't rub off prematurely. I had hurried out for my appointment and threw jeans on, but I got home unscatthed nonetheless. On this visit, I took advantage of a Bloomspot deal I had bought a year ago for $27 - the regular price of airbrush here is $47. I definitely got a great deal for wonderful service. They do offer a membership program to help save you a few bucks. All in all, a great experience and will definitely be back since I do sunbathe. BTW - Kat is a licensed esthetician, like myself - so you can take ease knowing someone who is trained in skin care is handling your service. Side note: They do also sell Sprayology vitamins there, so I also opted to get the daily multi because I have heard great things about Sprayology vitamins. read more

I have been going to Ortanic for about seven months off and on. I am always extremely happy with the results. Naturally, I am extremely pale with dark hair so any amount of tan is extremely noticeable. It is key for me that any spray tan is very, very subtle and un-orangey. I will put out there that I had never gotten a spray tan before going to Ortanic because I was afraid of turning orange. Since starting Ortanic I have tried one or two other places (which are lower in price or which are more convenient for me). However, I have always come back to Ortanic because it provides the most natural tan. On my first visit, the spray technician created a formula for me based upon my description of my skin type, activity level, and what I wanted to look like. We use the same formula on each visit and it always provides the same natural results that I want. I turn a darker shade of my normal skin tone without a hint of orange. I can wear a dress without blinding onlookers with my shiny white legs and, it fades in a fairly dignified manner (gradually, without causing me to look like I have a pigmentation disorder). Ortanic has saved the formula that we designed on my first visit so that I always come out looking normal but tan. A couple of things to keep in mind. It is key that you shower and exfoliate as close to the appointment as possible, dry thorough without applying any lotions, deodorant or other substance to your skin. I typically wear a dress (no bra) to the appointment, go home immediately, and sit still (watching tv) on a dark colored blanket for the rest of the night. (This probably isn't necessary, but I really don't want it to streak.) Your skin has to dry for 8 hours (no showering or lotions) - I get the tan at night and shower the next morning. For as long as I want the tan to last I use moisturizer like a crazy person and try to avoid too much sweating. (I have never bought the lotion they sell - one of the technicians told me that Jergen's Shea Butter works well.) Also, I avoid soaking in water (including pedicures) until the tan is gone. I can't say enough good things about my Ortanic experience! I'm 37 years old and would never dream of baking in the sun anymore, but I love that glow that comes with a tan. I've now gone 5 times, and I'm definitely a HUGE fan of Ortanic. Easy as anything, and you have a fabulous tan in minutes. Honestly, everyone there at Equinox who has sprayed me does an amazing job (and I've had three different people do it), but I have to say that my absolute favorite is Gretchen - she's a super sweet person, makes you feel totally comfortable, educates you fully on skin preparation, and she does an amazing job, as well. This last time, she was telling me how she will customize my color for the wintertime as well, so I don't look ridiculously tan but just get the little bit of color you need. I don't really ever write reviews about things unless they are extremely fantastic or extremely horrible. Ortanic luckily is the former. I've been a religious Ortanic client since they opened..about two years now. I literally go almost every week..total addict! Most of the time I go to FFC gold coast because Kat is THE BEST!! Although, I have been to every one of the technicians and they are all outstanding and all very professional. Allie is wonderful as well! I go get a tan if i plan on being in a bathing suit on vacation or even if i am wearing my winter clothes in Chicago. Either way, its sooo easy, i get a healthy looking glow, don't have to wear makeup, and look like i lost 10 pounds right after i get sprayed!! Its so much healthier than tanning beds as well and actually looks way better and more evened-out! I've tried the mystic tan and some other "airbrush tanning" places in the past but no one gets it right every time like Ortanic. Its a combination of the formula in the spray they use that looks very natural as well as the technicians like Kat and Allie who are also aestheticians and honestly know everything about skincare! When you get there, they assess your skin color and type and determine the correct mix of tan-formula thats right for you, so everything is very personalized. Today I called to schedule a tan for tomorrow (on their website is says they are open today and tomorrow) the girl that answered the phone was extremely rude and acted like I was an idiot for not knowing they weren't open Saturday, Sunday or Monday! One word: OVERRATED. After reading all the reviews on here I expected more. First of all, you go to a GYM to get this done, not a salon or spa. Not the classy experience promised on their website. The girl who sprayed me was "nice" but not an experienced professional. My tan does look ok, but not worth the hefty price tag or the odd location. I had yesterday my first spray tan ever and I love it. I am very happy I discovered this procedure as I have white spots on the skin and now my skin its pretty even. Katie was very nice. Thank you. We will see how much it lasts. PS: One more thing, if you choose spray tan make sure to be ideally leg-shaved, waxed or whatever you use. I shave but my skin is very sensitive and I have small hair grown into skin which did not shave and they became dark and visible. Now I have to pull them out. read more

I heard about Ortanic through many friends who are big fans of and I decided to try it because I am tired of laying in the tanning bed and gross spray booths that turn you orange and splotchy and I was looking for something that is a safe cancer free tan. Ortanic is amazing, the girl Danny who did mine was such a sweetheart and made the entire situation so much less awkward than it could have been. She really knew what she was talking about which is comforting. Moreover, if you are insecure with the thought of standing in front of another woman with only underwear on, GET OVER IT. It's her job and I am pretty sure she see's all body types on a regular basis, and like i said she made the situation so much less awkward. The facility is clean and makes you relaxed from the second you step in. Everyone else has gone over the steps on here so I won't repeat myself, but I will say it is ESSENTIAL to follow the preparation and aftercare sheet in order to receive the best results. I had my appointment in the evening after work because you can not wear deodorant and or lotion and need to exfoliate before so I went home to shower and then went to my Ortanic appointment. I saw myself get drastically more tan as the night progressed, but when I washed it off in the morning I was amazed with my results. Ortanic is an amazing product and I will be going back for more. I highly recommend and suggest to do it. It is more expensive than other tanning options which are available but if you are really looking for a great tan and a great experience Ortanic is where it's at! read more

Wonderful. A pasty English girl's dream. I've had some ugly spray tan experiences in the past, but after some great reviews, I thought I'd give Ortanic a try. I went in yesterday and today I look like I spent the winter in Greece. This is the best tan I've ever had, as I usually just go straight to burn and my dermatologist has threatened my life if he thinks I've been sun-bathing. The tech I had, Cat, was great, she made it reasonably comfortable to stand in your skivies while getting painted! Don't plan much for the day of your spray tan, as you won't have any makeup, moisturizer, deodorant or a bra on. But it is kind of fun just bumming around in your all-black yoga gear while your tan develops! Super even coverage, not orangey at all, and it looks like *my* tan, not like I've been painted a tan color (if that makes any sense). Now I just have to find a way to *actually* spend my winters in Greece. read more

This is the best spray tan experience I have ever had! I have only gone to places where an esthetician sprays me and I have been pleased with each tan but it was only because I did not know what the true experience should be like. Alley custom made my color according to what I wanted and did an excellent job spraying me. After you are finished, they then spray you with air so that you are not just standing in a room for 10 minutes trying to dry. The room is exceptionally clean for being a spray tan room. I started off searching a bunch of airbrush tanning locations in Chicago and came across Ortanic and all of these reviews on Yelp. I've only been once, but that was all I needed to make me become in love with them!! Everything about this place is amazing. The location, the atmosphere, the staff. The color is phenomenal. You look like your naturally tan. Nothing about it orange or blotchy. I just went to LA Tan today to get the 3 spray tans for $45, and my sister went first and when she came out....idk. It wasn't horrible, but it sure as heck wasn't a tan golden brown. The lady barely helped us at all and my sister's feet were stained....So I immediately got a refund and booked an appointment at Ortanic. The price is a bit high but I understand why; it is so even and the perfect color and dark. If your really pale, like i was at the time, DO NOT worry. You will not look orange. That's the thing. I was sooo pale and worried that I needed a base tan. NOT AT ALL. It was perfect. I just can't say enough about this place. You will have to experience it to see what I'm talking about. I just keep rambling abut how amazing it is because I have no words to describe it the way i want to!! hahaha. You will have to strip down in front of someone, but they do it all day so you should try not to be embarrassed. They are professional about it and very nice. You will get darker after the initial spray tan. Very dark, but I absolutely loved that. Once you shower after eight hours it will tone down a bit but still be amazing and dark. It's definitely worth the $45. I got mine before going to Florida, kind of a dumb idea because I went in the ocean and the sand and everything. But I was surprised it didn't fade till about the third day I was there. So if it can withstand that, then it will definitely withstand your normal everyday activities. I will find out after I get my next one Monday. We have a winner!! This is my 3rd or 4th spray tan review and this time I am in love! Ortanic is the most natural looking spray tan out there. I had no streaks. No missed spots. No overdone spots. I bought a spray can to take home with me and I did some touching up 5 days later so it would last even longer. It is amazing here. It is in the middle of the price range for this service. I have been meaning to get on here to write a review for over a month now. I have been telling my friends this story and spreading the word. ORTANIC SAVED MY LIFE! .....Well my dating life. I made a huge mistake to sun bathe outside a month ago, and got horribly burnt. It was such an uneven burn, that one side of my body and face was white and the other side was the color of a lobster! The worst part about it, I had a blind date with a guy in two days. In a panic I called my friend and she suggested maybe making the color a little more even by getting a spray tan. A little reluctant I made the appointment anyhow, I was desperate. The burn somehow seemed to look worse the next day! When I arrived for my spray tan, Pamela was very sweet and instantly made me feel better about the situation. She assured me that she could make me look normal again. My tan, and in a sense the fate of my date were in her hands. And what were the results? A gorgeous, even skin tone. I didn't just look normal, I have to admit it I looked hot! She was truly an artist. To have a burn as bad as I did, she worked her magic and it looked amazing! Morale of the story, I will never lay out in the sun again! Its not worth the possibility of burning and looking like a fool. Its not the healthy choice anyhow. It was definitely worth the money and time to go to Ortanic. my ortanic experience was fantastic!!! danni was wonderful. i have had some terrible experiences before (not with ortanic) and she made me feel very comfortable and at ease. she was super super knowledgeable which was great. i will definitely be back - it turns out this was my favorite spray tan of all time and i've done many airbrushings! it didn't smell, it dried very quickly, and it has lasted a week so far! it's clearly fading, but naturally and not obviously. i HIGHLY recommend you try it out!! and as far as airbrushing goes, i found it to be an excellent value!!!! read more
