Whatever it takes to get attention. Pushing a baby stroller while on vacation in Santa Barbara, I was greeted by a series of bizarre questions from a portly heavily-accented saleswoman regarding which Asian country I'm from. When I asked why she wanted to know, she ridiculously pulled at her eyes to make them more narrow. I had to dig way back into memory to understand this was a racial slur aimed at Asians. I thought we were as a civilized society past racism, and can't remember the previous time I was racially insulted. Goes to show anything can happen anywhere. All it takes is for a seedy desperate cosmetics store to employ uneducated, miserable, and therefore malevolent, staff. UPDATE: 1/10/2018 I reached out to the store manager, Alonzo. He expressed a surprising amount of empathy and remorse on behalf of his staff. Not relying on words alone, Alonzo took clear action that convinced me my experience was a concern to him, and something that would be addressed going forward. The unexpected customer-service reversal takes my overwhelmingly negative initial impression to one of optimism for this store's future. This is reflected by the first time I'm adjusting a Yelp rating, from one star to four. read more

It only gives some people a feeling of luxuriousness after they plop down hundreds of dollars for some cream and lotion. The sales tactics employed here is the same as the ones used by time share salesman. I couldn't wait to leave the store. I told the lady up front that I am a chemist and none of the ingredients on the back of the box justify their claims or the price. For the money that you are paying, you could have visited a dermatologist and get some prescription cream with clinical data to backup the claims instead of listening to little "factoids" like Cleopatra and an ancient Chinese queen used gold to beautify their skin. Guess what, people of that era put lead and arsenic on their face too. You know that "exfoliator" they put on you? The key ingredient is basically glue, so of course you will be seeing big globs of "dead skins" getting rubbed off. Run away from this place. Ugh! What scammers! These people are not only giving the Paseo Nuevo mall a black eye, but are certainly not representative of the high standards of the Israeli people. If you are uncomfortable with brute confrontation, ignore the guy with the samples outside of the door. The strategy is to give you a sample to make you feel obligated to "give them a minute" of your time. Debit or credit? At one point my bags and wallet were left in the shady backroom while "Ocean" who claims to be the owner of the line" leaves you out front to "sanitize" the treatment room where he begs to "spoil" you by demoing product. It didn't feel right. I followed him in, because there simply wasn't anything to sanitize. The "skin consultant" tried to stop me, but I did not feel comfortable with my wallet and I.d. Left with them. Ultimately he tried to sell me the product and kit for $8600. Then reduced to $4600 then he became angry and as I am peeling the mask off so I can leave, he ANGRILY shoved the product at me and says $1500 deal? When I continued to say no, " he said, 'there is the door'. I had bought the eye cream up front, which at $350 was a splurge. Now it just disgust me to look at it. Can I give-star? Gross. Sales assistants here are scammers. My husband really liked a product and we were willing to make a purchase. They three In a bunch of products for a set price. When we got to the registrar we asked the sales assistant what the final price rung up to. Both sales assistants kept talking between themselves and after asking six time what the price was before they swiped the credit card. The final price ended up being eighty dollars more than promised. I picked up the card from the counter and told them we were going to not go ahead with the transaction. Sales assistant said they transaction never went through but later we found the charges on the card. Luckily we were able to dispute the charge and got our money back. From the moment you step into this store something does not feel right. None of the products are priced and it just did not feel like an honest transaction. I entered the store under the pretense I was to receive a free facial, but was the victim of a classic bait and switch. The selling technique was very aggressive and involved sentence frames structured so my response was always yes. Example, "Don't you like the way this smells?" It did smell nice so I said, "Yes". To which she would say, "See you love it!" There was so much positive framing of the products. She also kept asking me, "How would you like to pay?" Just walk on the other side! Otherwise, they might pull you in to "show" you something. Then they start to either compliment your skin, or they criticize your skin. I don't know, I guess they just guess on which tactic works better. They've tried both on me. Last year I actually bought a product, which was probably unnecessary, but I really wanted to get out of there and I thought, well maybe I'll try it. Plus, I actually liked how the sales man presented the products to me. Then again today, a different sales man (they're never the same people!) pulled me in, gave me his whole pitch, and I insisted I can't buy anything. Then again I was like, no I can't purchase this, he was rude about it and pretty much had an attitude of throwing his hands up in the air and blew me off. Sure he was frustrated he just spent 10-15 mins trying to persuade me to purchase products, but I told him from the start, I can't buy anything! And maybe if he was nice about it in the end, I may have came back... Besides their threatening sales tactics, the products I have used from there weren't really effective on me. I'm in my mid 20's so my skin is still in great shape. If you are young, you probably don't need these!! There are better "natural" ways to preserve your skin. These products can be damaging if misused. If you're older and your skin is already damaged, their products might help. Everyone is so different so you just never know if it'll work or not. She asked if the samples they gave her and were about to slather all over her face had shea butter, and the man said that they were "organic" and had no shea butter and had no extracts. This is a complement for Ray, the wonderful employee at Oro Gold who happened to be arriving to work at that time with another male employee. They both kindly helped me up. After making my initial purchase, I read the Yelp reviews, and they are mixed bag for certain. As a business owner myself, I don't like seeing extremely negative reviews on any store or product, unless it is truly warranted. So, although I made my purchase a month ago, I decided to wait a full month of using the products to make my review. I understand the feelings of some of the reviewers here regarding the sales tactics. It is shameless manipulation. And they are VERY good at it. One actually realizes that they are being gently set up for a bigger purchase than they desired the moment they walk in - but, they are - I have to say, so skilled at this that it's almost painless - unless you can't truly afford it, in which case, I'd caution anyone, don't be foolish enough to part with your rent money on anything you didn't budget for. For those who can afford to drop a few hundred dollars here, and not mourn it's loss, the products are, actually, worth it - and MILES away in difference from your run of the mill department store beauty creams. Whether it's the gold, or, as I suspect, something a little less sexy in the formulation that makes the difference, who am I to say - I suspect the "gold" thing is a hook, rather than the actual culprit. It makes no difference to me, as long as the products work. And they do. My skin was looking tired, and needed a pick up. One month later, I have fewer noticeable lines, my skin looks and feels smoother, and more taut. The exfoliating chemical peel product is quite effective - be sure to not leave it on more than 30 seconds- I've used it twice so far. I like the dark circles treatment, and eye serum. I follow it up with their moisturizer. Paying a little more for this than I might allocate to these types of products probably has caught my attention a little more, and made me pay attention to the process. Not such a bad thing. I'm more dedicated to my beauty routine than maybe I might have been before. And it makes me feel good to be that person who pampers herself. This is something I've never really done before - I tend to be that woman who puts herself last, and does for others first... No more. I get a turn too. The Orogold Cosmetic Boutique here is a scam. Specifically Jenny Lewis, who claims she is a cosmetologist and a skin specialist who is in high demand between Florida and Santa Barbara who charges $700 for a consultation fee. The sales people are aggressive and make false claims to their products and services, They attempt selling at a high price and keep negotiating a price until they find a price you agree to pay by switching products "I can give you this at a discount because the package is damaged", saying that she will give the skin products for free and then not crediting my credit card. When I returned the following day to have the products refunded because I was travelling, Jenny Lewis claimed there is a no refund policy, but they would ship me my products. I wrote the Better Business Bureau and Orogold's website, however Orogold did NOT respond to the BBB nor to the website. I was victim to fraudulent sales and service. The salespeople failed to ship me my products and the very expensive machine that has a lifetime guarantee. The shop does NOT operate during the hours or days they advertise, the salespeople are misleading and make fraudulent claims to provide goods and services that they advertise. STEER CLEAR OF THEIR TACTICS! I rate a negative. read more

I just tried out some of these products recently, and I was pleasantly satisfied with their effectiveness. I used the pore cleanser, moisturizer, body cream, and after-shave balm. Each does its job well, though nothing in particular stands out. Regarding the pore cleanser specifically: with as often as we all touch our faces - and the amount of grossness we subsequently spread - facial cleansers are an absolute must. My face felt absolutely refreshed after using this product, and best of all, it did not leave my face feeling dried out. That is HUGE when it comes to a lot of facial soaps, as cleanliness often comes at the expense of moisture. Luckily, that's not a sacrifice you'd have to make. The moisturizer and body cream also do the trick to combat any "ashy-ness" - knee, elbow, or otherwise. The after-shave balm gave me a smooth smile post-shave, as well. Overall, all these products were good, if not spectacular. Nothing really set any of it apart from the crowd. That said, they were very solid and functional products. I'm not really sure if I would pay top dollar for something like this, but I could see them going for more than your average product. The best aspect of them, in my opinion, was that they were effective without being oily, as is often the case with creams and lotions. If you're a regular user of such products, that can go a long way, and might be something you would be willing to spend money on. The downside, however, is that all of these products were relatively odorless. This is merely a matter of preference, but I enjoy the fresh scent and knowledge that my face is getting clean while using a pore-cleansing product or after-shave. This is not the case here. That said, some may not want any additional scents (or even worse, a bad scent) and may solely be after the moisturizing affects of a product, in which case Oro Gold Cosmetics products are a great fit. read more

I have never once stepped into an Oro Gold Cosmetics store simply because the people waiting out front with samples give off such a bad and uncomfortable vibe. I was walking down the mall alongside my friend when I looked over at the store and noticed 2 men standing there with samples. One of them smiled, held out the sample bag & winked at me. All the products would be shipped to me over a three year period for the upfront price of ONLY $11,700.00! What a deal.....i wanted to RUN but the door was closed. I explained that I had to leave. Within ten minutes, her price came down to $4500.00.....Yep, I ran like the wind. I got out unscathed but I am concerned for others who might fall prey to their unethical sales practices. Once there, Joe elegantly described the Oro Gold brand and put me at ease -- he was perceptive and able to zero in on what I specifically might need: he also explained the range of products and prices clearly with me. This is expensive face care, do not get me wrong, but -- if you are able to invest without going broke, absolutely worth it (not even remotely comparable to drugstore skincare brands). As I was walking with my friend, I enjoy free samples but I do not enjoy getting dragged along to test out products on my skin to forcefully be approached in buying things. Something odd about this place was that the interior looked enticing enough, decor looked quite chic and costly to drag someone in, but having 24-karat gold scrubbed and lotioned onto my skin seemed a bit strange. Perhaps super foods, diet, exercise, and often moisturizing your skin with nearly any product including drugstore brands can yield even a better result than these ones! The conversation with this woman felt as if she was forcing me to buy these products which included their biggest "promotion sale" IF I purchase the cosmetics TODAY. I totally did not fall for it and when I did not, she commented about me not having enough money. Feeling extremely disrespected by the rudeness of her comment, she said she would lower the price. I still would not buy it since it was a scam assuming that there are no return policies, which there is not. Well I find out that after I walked away from this place with my friend, I did not get the free sample they offered. Like many of you, I fell victim to the pushy, rude sales tactics of the salespeople at Orogold. No new news here. And like many, I spent way too much on a product I didn't need, and then felt stupid when I read at the bottom of the receipt there were no refunds, exchanges only. But, here is how I got a refund, for those who need one. Hopefully you get buyer's remorse right away, and haven't opened your product and used it, but if you have, it should still be okay. (My story is based on not opening the product though). Try to return it to the store. Say you had an allergic reaction to the samples they applied to your skin (it developed when you got home, which is why you didn't open the product you bought). They'll make you fill out a slip of paper, and take the product with you. Go ahead and do so. Also, go to the corporate site and fill out an online form and/or make a phone call to corporate. Write down names, numbers, dates and times, etc...of everyone you speak to, in person and by phone. In about 3 days, you'll get a call from corporate. They'll try to convince you to exchange the product, but stick to your story you are allergic, and you are uncomfortable using the product anymore. They'll tell you to go back to the store and ask for the manager, and you can return it. Once there, they'll again ask you to exchange. Be tough! Take a friend if need be! Then that is that - they will refund. I also made it a point to never complain about the service or rude salespeople. Obviously the company knows how their employees are and don't care - they trained them to be that way. So, just be pleasant, nice and courteous and don't complain about the service. It sucks. You know it and I know it, but this is a different issue and you are trying to get a refund, not complain about service nobody cares about. I know it is underhanded and lying, and typically, I would not advocate that at all. But, they are underhanded and lying in their sales technique, and sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. When I refused to purchase any products he just kept saying "I don't understand" and proceeded to insult me by saying how wrinkled my skin was and how old I looked. I was amazed that he thought insulting me like that would get me to buy anything from him. I finally got away from there without buying anything. Now when I go to Paseo Nuevo I walk on the other side and do not make eye contact. Stay away from this store. The sales person told us one price and when they rang it up, it was $80 higher! We told them we were not buying it and walked out of the store. It all started when I visited the mall in Barrie, ON. A guy with a hard accent stopped me to offer me a free moisturizing cream sample.  He introduced himself as Sean. He then somehow engaged me - I forget exactly what he said - but I reluctantly followed him into the store. He applied it to my left eye and had me wait a minute for it to work. This magic serum was supposed to be for wrinkles...and it worked! The wrinkles under my left eye magically disappeared. Obviously I was intrigued, as I had been struggling with all the changes to my skin in the last few years. I told him that I would purchase the eye serum but only if he finished the right side. He kept agreeing that he would do the other side, all the while showing me more products. He told me the price of the package he had put on me. That was too much for me! He insisted that he really wanted me to use their product so he proceeded to bring down the price. He insisted that it was 100% guaranteed and that if I didn't like it I could bring it back. I told him that I don't live in Barrie. He asked me where I was from and I told him London, Ontario. He said perfect, because they have a store at Masonville Mall. After buying the facial products he promised to complete the other side of my face. That is when he introduced me to the store manager, Eli, who whisked me to the back of the store in the facial treatment room, to finish the other side of my face while giving me another spiel. I protested that I defintely could not spend any more money that day. He shushed me and started applying treatment to the right side of my face. I hadn't had lunch yet and was starting to feel a bit light-headed, but he had already applied things to my face and told me to let the product work on my face a few minutes as he put on a video for me to watch. He came back with more products and showed me a device that promised to reduce facial fine lines and improving the appearance of the skin, as well as an ultrasound face and body slimming device. He proceeded with using the machine on one side of my face. When he finished one side he handed me the machine and a mirror and told me to try it on the other side of my face, as he again left the room. He returned with more products and promising gadgets. He started adding products to my bag indicating that he was just showing me what I could all get for an additional cost. I guess I didn't look convinced enough so he moved on to adding several free products to my bag for my daughter and some friends. I was exhausted after hours of being detained in a back room, and I honestly think their videos contain some type of subliminal messaging, because he eventually wore me down. My heart was thumping and I felt out of control. I really just wanted to get out of there. I had just spent way too much money but I was in a rush to get to my nieces house, and after posing for a picture with them, feeling like I was in shock, I left. Half way through the mall I felt as I had woken up out of a trance and as I am walking through the mall I thought "OMG what have I done"? I wanted to go back but I was running late. My niece had texted me to let me know she had arrived home. I was so ashamed! I went to my niece's place and tried to put it out of my mind. I went home the next day and immediately tried to get a hold of the company. Eli told me that I couldn't return the products because they had been opened. And I remembered him opening the packages at the store, indicating that he wanted to make sure that they weren't damaged. I told him that he had opened the packages and not me! He stated that their store policy clearly states that there were no refunds. I insisted that Sean told me that they were 100% guaranteed and that He had suggested that I could return them if I wasn't 100% satisfied. He told me to look at my receipt. I examined my receipt. I saw that it said "Final Sale. No Refund. Exchange only within 30 days". I tried to reason with him but he claimed that there was nothing he could do. That it was store policy. These sales people are ruthless. Clearly they are trained to pick up on vulnerabilities. I am so upset that I did not walk away from these people., but instead I allowed myself to be coerced into buying these bogus products, and I take full responsibility for that. Even if they work well, a company that intimidates customers and lies to them should not be rewarded.  I'm sure there are many very good cosmetics out there. A reputable company stands by their products and offers refunds because they understand that good customer service is the cornerstone of good business. I think the company hopes that most of us are too embarrassed to openly admit they were taken in by false claims and that we all chock it up to just a bad luck and move on. I am tempted to let it go, because I am so very ashamed, but I work hard and I resent being taken advantage of in this way. read more

I just tried the eye and face cream and it is amazing. Its very lightweight with good scent and shows great results. Does not dry out the face either. What more could I ask for. There are many more items to choose from I cant wait to try more. read more
