We got a referral to a local "expert", paid $1500 to supposedly get rid of them with bait stations. Meanwhile they were eating our house, causing major damage. After many callbacks, the "expert", Dave, stopped returning our calls. Out of desperation, I found the true experts in the Reddit termite forum who recommended the liquid Termidor treatment. Great! Now how do I find someone who can do it? Exactly. It's not like you can look someone up online. Thankfully the expert on Reddit gave me a genius idea: contact the manufacturer of the Termidor chemical and ask them who they sell it to in the area. I did that and was linked up with American Pest Elimination. 40 years of experience dealing with pest problems and their philosophy is to *eliminate*, not repeatedly treat. It cost another $3000 to get the treatment, which hurt, but it's guaranteed for 10 years. We had it done in the early spring, right after the termites swarmed and started eating our house (again, for the fourth year in a row). Dan told me the termites would be gone immediately. After the three year ordeal, I really had a hard time believing that. But what do you know, he was right! The evidence of their damage stopped in one day! Not only were the termites gone, but so were the ants, earwigs and stinkbugs (we've always had them because we live in the woods, but they were only a nuisance and annual bait took care of them). It's been 8 months since the treatment and still there's no sign of the termites!! I cannot emphasize enough how professional Dan and his team were. We had to have pavers removed so they could drill through our concrete porches. We paid in full upfront and they had to come back to treat the porches. As soon as we were ready, they came back within a week. If you have a termite problem in Northern Illinois, do not waste time and money on bait stations. They do work when installed properly, but meanwhile the damage will continue. I called on April 15th with the problem. Nick said the fan was under warranty and he would stop by to replace it. A text from him said he could be here 4/24 to replace it.
