I walked i, and didn't realize it was a 'seat yourself' place, so I stood around waiting to be told to sit, and I felt a little silly. No one told me where to sit till I asked someone, and it was busy, so it took a good 5-10 min before I had a seat. When I did, I was served fairly quickly considered it was totally full! My meal was great- a nice American breakfast with an omelet, hash browns, bacon, and toast. Coffee was refilled regularly, and everyone was nice. I left full and satisfied- maybe a touch over-full. The place is fairly bare bones, and the ambiance is nonexistent, but people go here for the food and not for the scenery. I can't even remember anything about the place, except that there is a back dining room, and the one in front where the cash register is. So if you are going here for Instagram opportunities, this is not the spot for you. This is where you want to go for a nice diner style meal, and at a reasonable price.

I had an omelette and my friend had chocolate chip pancakes in which I helped trying to get through them with little success. The to go box was heavy and the price was great. Brittany provided very good service. Very friendly and attentive. Stuffed jalapenos with sausage were ok. Peppers were not very hot. Wouldn't order again. 2 Peppers and 2 sausage only. Wasn't really put together well. Soup, shrimp and crab bisque, amazing, as previously enjoyed. Not salty at all. Salmon with mustard sauce special was excellent. Brussels and rice were very good, as well. Bacon wrapped pork medallions bourbon cream sauce was just ok. Vegetables and mashed potatoes were good. Not a mash potatoes person but theirs weren't bad. Their French Fries were great. Restaurant is nice inside with indoor and in season, outdoor seating. They have lots of areas for groups including an upstairs section. I would recommend and return here.

The waitresses were still nice but clearly exhausted. It cost too much, frankly - for what we ate and the experience. At least it was nice to have the crowd lessen and the room become quiet over the hour. Last year we went midmorning and there were full food stations but it was hard to hear each other. We do enjoy the scenery there at the dam and nearby at Delta Lake. It's nice to see and hear the water in Spring.

A real struggle on graduation weekend:…read more Party of 12, Saturday night. We were told that it wasn't going to be a prix fixe menu as we were a party of under 12 when the reservation was booked (we asked). It was. Selection was somewhat limited particularly for the vegetarians but the waitress said that they could swap veggies in for the trout in the risotto. They didn't. It was just risotto. Potato leek soup. So salty that it was inedible. Like sea water salty. Three of us sent it back. NY Strip. Boring and clearly hadn't been seasoned before cooking (ironic). Not quite cold but really, really close. A little tiny ramekin of chimichurri sauce which I was supposed it make it interesting or tasty I guess. It was neither. The whipped potatoes were delicious. Desert was a borderline interminable wait. And then they served gelato and sorbet to four of us. Think milkshake. A thin, runny milkshake, approaching soup. The food runners and waitress were so embarrassed they couldn't look at us when they dropped the desert and ran. Who lets ice scream, posing as soup out of the kitchen. It used to be a quaint little place with fantastic food ... And now, an overpriced, industrial'ish place with sub-par food (although the owners are clearly cashing out, leaning on its prior reputation). Unfortunate. $85 a head, $1,500 all in with drinks and tip.

The Tavern on the Gorge boasted a friendly staff, good bar food and a welcoming atmosphere with a good assortment of beverage offerings. I happened to catch this place during a night whereby they had comedians from NYC. The comedians were very good and got plenty of laughs poking fun at the Afirondack lifestyles and values. The patrons appreciated this ribbing and a great night of unexpected fun was a much needed release for me and my wife. We will return on our next trip to the North Country to recapture this homespun experience.

Chalk it up to Upstate, NY doing what Upstate, NY does best: Cold Beer and Chicken Wings. And in…read morethis case, it should be Chicken Wings first and cold beer second. You can certainly pull up a bar stool and drop a Utica Club in a can or get a Saranac draft. No issue there. But what you really want to be doing is ordering wings. Seriously...get in car...drive to Prospect...order wings. Look, you can get caught up in wings from Buffalo, Rochester, New York City (not SF because there is not a good wing in this entire city...although at least Kezar makes an effort)...whatever. They all take a back seat to what you get in almost every establishment in Syracuse and Utica. Let's put it this way...it's HARD to be at the top or near the top (which Tavern on the Gorge is) in the wing category in Central NY. Just WAAAY too much competition and people in CNY like their wings. But Tavern on the Gorge...they get a high seat in the Top 5 category and my debate upon leaving the bar was whether or not they were number 1. Wing sauce is apparently a tough thing. I don't think it's a tough thing, but to most bars and restaurants it's essentially the toughest thing they must do. NOTHING varies more establishment to establishment than a chicken wing. Certainly there are some places trying to put their own spin on it (90% of these folks are just making a mistake btw). Not a good idea fyi. The wing sauce at TOTG is as close to perfect as your going to get. Depending on who you talk to, you'll get differing opinions on wing sauce. But in general, the diehards know the base recipe and an ingredient that can have a major impact is butter/margarine. So those wings sauces you see that have sort of a heavier texture (heavy being almost creamy)...they crank up the butter/margarine. Not a bad thing. The place in direct competition with TOTG does this and those wings are ridiculous as well. But TOTG does things a little differently and what you end up with is a sauce with slightly less creaminess and amazing tang. And they don't skimp on the heat...in fact, they dial it to perfection. Don;t worry about going in and having to order mild because you don't. If you don;t want to go hot...go medium...that's fine as well. But just know that Upstate does it's wings the right way...in a fryer, with ridiculously good sauce. TOTG has it nailed. Great place to grab a couple of UC's or a Saranac and eat wings. These are great wings. Period.

We were heading somewhere else to eat, which happened to be closed, and we came upon Muju around the corner, saw the good reviews, and decided to give it a try. And we were glad we did. It's definitely an interesting place - you can order food at the front counter, there are tables to sit and eat, but then also an international grocery store in the middle of the building. We both ordered a tea, some Nepali spicy chicken chow mein, and an order of fried pork momo, which are their version of gyoza, or dumplings. Our food was delicious. The spicy chow mein definitely had a kick to it, but was very good. Dumplings are one of my absolute favorite foods, I usually prefer the thinner wrappers over the thicker ones - there were the thicker ones, but they were cooked so perfectly it didn't matter.
