We enjoy going to the Orion but tonight we went to see Wicked and the sound was just off somehow. We wanted big booming sound because the songs are so beautiful! However, at times I was leaning forward just to hear the music and dialogue. It was like it was mostly down front and the side speakers were barely working. Good looking facility, excellent projection and sound quality. Food is great and prices are reasonable. We really wanted to love the place but the downfall is the bad attitude of the employees. Without going into too much detail three of the four employees we engaged with seemed to be having a bad day, or maybe a bad month, and taking it out on us with snarky answers or a dead-behind-the-eyes affect. Here's the deal. The Orion is the best movie theater in town. HOWEVER, if you have lived anywhere other then Yakima, you would know how insane of a rip off this place is. This is a dine in theater that is 21+ and older where you get to pick your seats. I love these styles of theaters, BUT, if you want to buy tickets ahead of time, you're looking at $20 a ticket! Like WHAT?! You are paying Seattle prices at that point! Not to mention Portland, you can get yummy food, Happy hour drinks, and a cheap ticket for under the cost of JUST THE TICKET at The Orion. The food is decent at best (once again over priced for bar food and chicken fingers) and the drinks are expensive and the ones on special are sickly sweet. The servers are very attentive and kind, it's whoever is running this theater that needs to check the price of admission for what they are selling. My advice? Skip all the Yakima theaters and head to Tri-Cities, Ellensburg, Portland, or Seattle for a way better movie experience. read more

THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF! Since their website doesn't show any transparency about the location hopefully this review will help. Where do I even start?! First off Tickets are $20 each, the most pricey theater I have ever been to! Upon Entrance they have a sign for no water bottles, but yet don't even have a self service drink station, you have to wait in line. The front lady was nice to us but heads up if you have a VERTICAL ID don't come here. They'll deny you with no refund! We came into the theater a bit late and noticed the lights were still fully on and you could see everything around you. We called an employee over and they explained they DONT TURN OFF THE LIGHTS the whole movie. Apparently this is due to a liquor license regulation, I've never heard of it before and there is no warning about it whatsoever. When we came out and explained our issue the manager was pretty dismissive. She said she didn't know the refund policy or how to give one even though she's literally the manager? Anyway she gave me a number to call but warned they used to have a no refund policy so we'll see. You're better off just watching a movie at home for free!!! read more

Friendly servers in the theaters. Very helpful staff all around, food is good (basically bar food). The only thing I don't like is the cost per ticket. They had to limit seats for COVID and increased an already high price even more to offset the empty seats, I think. Idk if that was worth it, since the cost pre-covid was already steep. read more

We finally made it over to the Orion cinema after hearing about it a year ago and finally having enough time to go see a movie! An added bonus over the other theaters in town is that they act like it sometime after 1991 and they actually take credit cards here and let you buy them online! Adding an extra $2 or whatever for a convenience fee is lame, but at least I don't have to carry $50 to pay for my movie. Rant over, now for the good stuff. Located in the same building as a co-business with Mickey's pub, this is the only spot in the area where you can both enjoy a movie and have beer and/or dinner at the same time - A delightful combination when both are present! The actual theater is not overly large so if you're going here and seeing a popular movie, make sure that you arrive relatively early. We avowed up for Star Wars about 15 minutes before it started and had some great seats down in the bottom front corner. What made up for it however, was the fact that you simply press a button and the server comes to take your order. A few minutes later the food arrives and you, now a happy camper, are free to dine and watch at the same time. It's like an expensive your living room! The food here is pretty solid, though a bit on the expensive side. Seriously though, what do you expect when somebody's going to deliver if stew with roasted potatoes (extra points if you recognize the family guy reference!) while I'm watching a new generation of Jedi take it to the man! The beer selection is pretty solid and they have a number of local brews available. They also have wine, including sparkling wine from Treveri - a local favorite and something you should try if you have not. All in all, this joins the ranks of other fantastic theaters where you can drink, eat and enjoy a movie all at the same time! For any of you dudes who are not creative, but still wish to treat your lady to a fun night out, this is a good place to check into. 9/12/17: I was watching "It" and towards the end of the movie I felt terrible. I left my seat and headed to the bar because I had trouble breathing for at least 20-30 minutes... The staff members and the bartender that night were quick to help me right away to sit me down, give me something to drink and make sure I was okay. I wish I was able to leave a tip for the drink and properly thank them but I hurried myself to the hospital as I still had trouble breathing and had tingly extremities. Luckily it was just a panic attack but I dont know what I would have done without the staffs' help! Thank you for your professionalism and kindness Orion! I have mixed feelings about this place because I think it is really up to the servers. 2 out of the last 3 times have been really unenjoyable with the tall bald guy server talking way too loud during the movie. The other servers at least try to be quiet. But, it is a movie! I think pre movie go early order all you need, hit the button if you need something and collect the payment after. I don't need to be hassled to pay and sign during the last 15 minutes of a movie. But I enjoy the theatre, the food and the drinks. I just think the process needs an adjustment. read more

This was my our first time coming to this theater. We were really excited because we were seeing Avengers and because we heard great things. I will break down the pros and cons to this visit. Cons: Seats are way too uncomfortable for my liking. My husband felt the same. We felt they were just like the other theater seats. The only difference is the leather. Food was not so good. I ordered pretzel bites with cheese thinking I was getting homemade cheese, not a bowl full of butter. That was seriously disappointing considering how much money we spent. Fries were shoe string fries that were way too greasy. Turkey burger was okay but bland. You would think they couldn't mess up popcorn but they sure did. Every other bite was kernels that almost broke our teeth. I also hoped they would give us paper cups with lids so we can take our drinks home (non alcoholic). Pros: The nice gentleman taking our orders and bringing our food were awesome. Super friendly and really fast. That's the only good thing about this visit. Unfortunately, we won't be back. read more

We're movin' up. Eastern Washington now has a movie theater where one can have a libation with a meal during your cinematic experience. This concept isn't new. I remember experiencing this for the first time waaaay back in 2002 in Seattle during a showing of Amelie---I still remember it like yesterday. I'm spoiled by movie theaters which serve meals & boos. In general, going to a basic movie theater is a total chore. Why go to a theater and endure lots of negatives (loud people, texting-teenagers, crowds, crappy snacks)?? I mean, one can watch a movie in one's own home for much cheaper and with much more comfort. Theaters need to entice, and this is where theaters like Orion come in. Orion Cinema is brand spankin' new and is situated in downtown Yakima. The theater had it's soft opening a week or two ago. The theater has three theaters all with state of the art sound and projection. There is stadium seating, adjustable tables for your food, and there are cup holders as well. I heard there are plans to view independent/art house films here from time to time as well. In the lobby area, there is Mickey's Pub. We didn't check this place out, but I'm sure this is where the food and drink come from. This theater is 21 & Over. And BRING YOUR ID!! They will not let you in if you don't have ID. Overall, the experience was decent. I'm hopeful and really glad an entertainment option like this is now available in eastern Washington. My only critiques (which should be taken with a grain of salt since they are so new and I'm sure they are working out the kinks.) These are my nit-picky suggestions: o :::: Full Bar :::: I'm all for a cocktail or two, but not sure about the option of tequila shots or double martinis at a movie theater. After one drink, I'm sure inhibitions will go out the window, as well as "voice volume". One of my biggest pet peeves are people talking during movies, and I know drunks in a movie theater will make me go ghetto in no time. Don't people know about them? For almost the entire movie, the chick in front of me yacked the whole time! Thoughts I had during movie: ---- Taking off my shoes/socks and laying my hairy & stinky feet on either side of her head, and combing her hair with my toes. ---- Pouring my Irish Death on her & her man ---- Politely asking her to shut the F up o :::: Better Food :::: I got the chicken strips and they were pretty basic. My friends said their pizza out-of-the-box-like. The fries were the bomb though. Next time, I think I definitely have to go the hamburger/sandwich route. Oh, and it would also be nice to have vegetarian menu items (other than salad). o :::: Seating :::: The seats are nice and it is all stadium-like so there are no issues with seeing movies. One thing which I could see as being awkward is how all the seats are organized in pairs. This is fine for those going out on dates, but what if you have a third person (or 5th, or other odd number). It's a little unfair to banish them to the island of Alone. With all of that aside, I think this is a great new addition to Yakima. With classy options like this, Yakima truly is on its way to become "The Palm Springs of Washington". It is just about worth the hour-long drive from the Tri-Cities to check out a movie here. read more

We live in Seattle, but come to Yakima several times a year for wine tasting, and we occasionally we like to catch a movie in the evenings. We've been here twice now, and I love the concept of being served food and drinks while you watch a movie (and no kids!). The first time we came, I remember the food and service being great. However, this last time, I was less than impressed. Our server seemed like she could care less about us, and she spilled a drink on me as she was passing it over to my husband. No apology or anything. Pretty rude. Also, the food wasn't as good this time. Steak sandwich was dry, and the BBQ chicken pizza was just slathered in way too much sauce. Both meals were also very salty. I'm sure they do that so you keep ordering more drinks! I'm sure we'll be back, but hopefully next time will be a better experience. read more

I think I may stop coming here. Probably not. The food is consistently disappointing and I've found that being drunk ruins a movie for me! Hahaha!!! Of all the times I've been here I've had the pretzel bites, chicken wings, buffalo fries and a salad. The best was probably that side salad with a spring mix, kale, cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes!! Everything else made me feel sick halfway through eating it. Pretzel bites were oil sponges, chicken wings were breaded and soggy and the fries were decent. Their serving sizes are big which is a crowd pleasing trait but it seems like such a waste as the food would just be disgusting if you were to take it home. But honestly The Orion is a unique experience and it's always a great time. I really want to check out one of the classic movie nights and I saw they show the Rocky Horror Picture Show every year around Halloween. The theater has an attached bar, and the whole place smells like it. I'm not even sure if they properly clean things at all. So, I hope you really like the smell of stale beer. It will be with you for the entirety of the movie. I'd been told it had a good atmosphere and experience that made up for it, but that was not my experience. You might have heard that the Orion offers a more mature, adult-oriented setting, free from rambunctious or crying children. Well, if your idea of mature is having noisy, inebriated adults replace the children, that might be true. Staff were largely unhelpful. They didn't seem in any hurry to actually do their job to help a customer, but ready to pounce if you stood waiting in the wrong place (despite there being no posted notices on where and how lines should be formed). It seems that anything resembling customer service is reserved for their regulars. To anyone else, staff is borderline hostile. Bottom line; If you want to mix the worst aspects of visiting a sports bar with your movie-going experience...there's probably a real sports bar that does a movie night, and won't charge you as much for the "privilege". read more

From what I understand, Orion Cinema generally sells tickets weeks before every blockbuster movie they put out. They also include a special meal that has to do with the movie. I was shocked to hear that they didn't not pre-sell the movie tickets to "Black Panther" their specialty meal was chicken and waffles. Seats were comfortable and slightly reclined, best to come early to get a good spot. The only thing that bothered me was I prefer watching in total darkness but the hall was slightly dimmed, I guess it's to make sure you can still see your food on the table. I liked this theater quite a bit. The food was good, lots of beers to choose from, FULL SERVICE BAR, servers are very mindful of movie times and they have larger seats/aisles to accommodate people who are over 6ft. The best thing is that you don't have to deal with teenagers who might not be all the interested in the movie but are there to socialize. However I will say that during my visit they were simply replaced by drunk post-menopausal women. Our experience is probably less likely to happen than disruptive people in a regular theater but the possibility does exist. I would choose this theater if there was a movie I was very excited about going to, which doesn't happen all that much these days because I don't want to see SuperGuy 12. read more

I barely ate half of both and returned half the quesadilla to my server stating that I tried to eat it, but it was terrible. She charged me full price because her rude manager Alicia said no discount, and after complaing again, Alicia who gets a F for customer service says I can have a $3 discount but next time dont eat as much. The Orion Cinema is a pretty cool little place! Yakima is lucky to have an adults only theater like this! If you've lived in the area for a while, this is the old uptown plaza. When you walk in, you may get ID'd to make sure you are older than 21. I suggest that you get your tickets for the movie right away at the main counter. Movies tickets are $13.00/each (add an additional $1.40 if you buy them online). The chairs are comfortable and the staff has generally been fine. You don't have to deal with punk kids.....but you still get to deal with stupid adults. During my last trip, the guy next to me had been drinking a lot......but he eventually quieted down enough to be tolerable. During this last trip, my wife and I opted for dinner and a movie. We started with the waffle chicken bites - which were so-so. They also charge extra for a second sauce, which is pretty weak for a $9 appetizer. I wouldn't pay the money for it again. Get the mac n'cheese bites. They're waaaay better! For an entree, I had the chicken fajita salad ($13.95). It was pretty good and I'd get it again. There are better chicken fajita salads in town....but none of them have the option of watching a movie while you eat it! My wife had the honey buttered shrimp quinoa bowl ($14.95). If you like this sort of thing, then she said it was really good. Even though it's not my style, I though it was tasty. The down sides of the theater: 1. Limited movie selection. There are usually only 3 different movies at a time. They typically have 2 of the more popular options out at any given time. 2. Mickeys Pub (the food inside) and Orion Cinema are different companies, so you have to pay for the movie and your food separately, which isn't a big deal - but a slight inconvenience. 3. If you order any food or drink after about halfway through the movie, you end up with two tabs to close. Again - not a big deal....just more of an inconvenience. Even with a issues, this place is great to have in Yakima. You won't regret paying a couple bucks more for a great place to watch a movie! read more

The Orion Cinema in Yakima, WA is a unique and enjoyable experience. However, today I am using Yelp as a platform to discuss a major issue I have with the establishment - their AWFUL popcorn. The Majestic and the Cinema have very delicious popcorn in the Yakima Valley, but the popcorn at the Orion is hardly edible. When you bite into a piece, it just flattens in your mouth like a piece of cardboard. No amount of butter in the world can make this popcorn enjoyable. Each time I discuss the popcorn at the Orion with my friends, they all agree. Which leads me to believe: no one orders popcorn at the Orion, no one is comfortable complaining about something like this, or (Oxford comma) everyone is too drunk to realize how awful it is. It was a great place to chill with friends and hang out and have drinks. It has a fairly nice bar and seating area you can relax and eat food, watch tv whole your waiting for your movie to start. The movie area was nice small but the searing area was somewhat comfortable. The server was great and prompt and you got their attention by pressing a silent service button. Long lines in this little building can be confusing. Are they waiting to get their tickets or waiting to be seated. I guessed wrong once and jumped into about the middle of the line unnoticed by staff. The manager noticed 10 minutes later as the door was about to open, and told me I had to move to the back. In the time I had been standing there the line had almost tripled, so I asked if I could at least just move back to the spot I would have been in. Since this was an honest mistake, other people standing in line were agreeing with me. The fat manager then raised his voice loud enough for everyone in line to hear him rake me over the coals for what I had done. I haven't been that humiliated in years! He wasn't going to let up either. He was going to send me to the back of the line, letting everyone know along the way. Last night was great, I'm from Albuquerque New Mexico. As I was telling my GF Albuquerque is so darn old cave, That Orion was the best I have ever done. 5 Stars for Orion Keep up the great job. The good: The theater was a really nice setup, and food was delivered to your chair. The sound system was awesome. The seats were comfortable. The bad: It was way too bright for an enjoyable movie experience. The overhead lights stayed on through the whole movie. Well anyways we walked in there and they were checking our IDs because we look younger and because we show them our drivers license they declined us they expected us to have a passport on us. So I am in this town called Yakima - it is quite a small town - most probably smaller than maritzburg (if you know wheere that is). If you are not in apples you are in cherries and if not in cherries you are in pears and if not in pears there is hops or blueberries and if you are in neither of those I am not sure why you are here (soory no offence to the locals who all do seem quite cool). Though they do have good fishing so maybe it is not all bad. Tonight it was 18*F and I could not smell the hops but I did find a theatre out back from the sport centre dive bar that is age restricted to 21 years - please provide ID. It is part of a pub with pub fare and is possibly the future of cinema. With all the seating in pairs and Dolby DB Surround sound and a button you press for waiter service for drinks and food. They are missing cinema candy and although there is popcorn they could do with my new favourite - nutritional yeast and UDOS oil popcorn BUT possibly if somewhat unlikely they will get there. The bar had no stools - apparently a delivery mistake - but they had a wide selection of micro brews including a dark smooth ale from Ellensburg called Irish Death. At 7.8% a few of these made the Orion Theatre and Django Unchanged a special movie. Recomend they work on the candy options and vegitarian food - I recomend some natchos and sweet potatoe frys - otherwise this place rocks! read more

I'm so excited to finally have something else to do in this town. The environment they have created at our newest mercy movie theater is surprisingly upscale and comfortable. I love the fact there is a bar and no children. The movie ticket are a little steep ($12.00/ea person) but well worth it to not have screaming children running up and down the aisles or rude teenagers gossiping throughout the movie. We went on a Monday night to the 540 showing. The bar was well stocked with different types of liquor and a wide beer selection. When I asked the bartender if we should get our tickets early he said we can but they are normally slower during the week so there wasn't a real danger of them selling out. Boy was he right; it was us and one other couple watching the movie. The bar had more people in it then the theater. As a side note you don't have to see a movie to eat or drink here. They have numerous tables and large booths for groups. They had 2 servers that came to take our food and drink orders. We both got one of the personal pizzas. I enjoyed my boyfriends PAD THAI (for $11.95) pizza but he like my SWEET & SPICY for ($10.95) better, isn't that how it always works out. They are good but the price was a little high for the size. After our pizza's we ordered some popcorn because you can't see a movie without popcorn. The best part is if you need a beer refill or more food you just tap a bottom and someone comes to help you. Another good thing is there drink prices are very reasonable. So next time maybe appetizer and popcorn, that way we have more money for drinks.
