The theatre is definitely a must go and something you have to experience. Yes a bit old, but charmingly charismatic!! I personally first came here in the 1990s and was blown away by its charm. It shut down for almost three years before it became available for sale. My husband and I stepped in a revived it and have been pouring our hearts into it ever since so I am a biased review, but if you want to experience the cutest theatre around just a little over an hour from Seattle then this is guaranteed to be a unique experience. this is a must stop for everyone. It's a small movie theater that's in a building that has been around for probably over a hundred years... They only have one screen so they usually have 1-3 movies but playing at different showtimes. The popcorn is the BEST in the world and you can stop by just for popcorn! You HAVE TO TRY GRAZY STYLE. SUCH a cute theater. Just saw Sound of Freedom. Girls behind the counter were so nice, polite and helpful! Popcorn was good. Hate Pepsi products :( Seats were more comfortable than we anticipated (as we're all getting spoiled on the west side with reclining seats). Our only complaint (besides the Mug rootbeer lol) was the size of the popcorn! The buckets were so darn small. I decided when we went in that since they were not free refills, we should get two. He got a large, I got a medium. Mine was gone before the movie started. His was gone halfway through. We ended up buying another large. If you're going to charge big theater prices, you really need to offer the same size buckets. I can't imagine popcorn is that expensive. Seeing as it's been almost two years since I wrote my original review, I feel as though the Roslyn Theater deserves an update. Still five stars, no less. The popcorn is still just as good as it ever was. Freshly popped, real butter; you truly cannot go wrong getting "gravy style" with yeast. It's an acquired taste, but do it once and you'll be hooked. Cheapest place to watch a movie in the county and amazing popcorn? Why are you not there now?! I will say that before summer, they were closed on Mondays and only showing one movie a night. That's changed now that kids are out of school and summer is in full swing. No visit to Roslyn is complete without checking out this small theater. I swear they have the best popcorn I've ever had at a theater and they also offer a variety of toppings including yeast. Yes, we jokingly refer to it as a little hippie theater. But seriously, it is so cute. They typically have one or two movies at a time but they are current releases. There's not a lot of seating but it's a small community so you should be fine. The prices are affordable and you can call ahead and reserve a balcony seat for $1 more. Best movie theatre in the world! I grew up going to the Roslyn Theatre and never knew how good I had it until going to big city theatres in Seattle and the UK. Amazingly comfy seats (I always sit in the loge - and reserve my special seats, too!). Plenty of room for arms without fighting with your neighbour. The only thing that could improve the seats would be drink holders. But that's not a big deal. Gravy style popcorn is a MUST HAVE. It's a acquired taste, but once you've acquired it you'll never go back. Snacks are very affordable and you can even get just plain-old tap water, which I truly appreciate. Great veggie selection, too, for those who swing that way. The owners are amazing and the staff are super friendly - as are the resident cats. I feel right at home here! (Oh! And you can get that amazing popcorn to go, too, if you just want to pop in for a snack to take home. I recommend that if you're not in the mood for a movie.) read more

I am so glad I checked Yelp before heading to Roslyn last weekend. The Roslyn Theatre is a must! This is a very cool theatre, complete with a theatre cat (he may be inside, he may be outside; he'll find you if he wants attention)! As many have already mentioned: get the upgrade to the balcony! Also, get a not-dog or some popcorn; whatever floats your boat, just get something! Their concession stand is as unique as the building. This little gem is a must see, must visit, one of a kind movie theater experience! My husband and I were in the Roslyn area over the long 4th of July weekend and we would have never even known about this cool little place if we hadn't over heard our waitress talking to another customer about it. It was about 10 minutes to the 6:30 showing so we ditched our menus and walked the 2 blocks to the theater. We got there a little too late so instead of seeing the 6:30 showing we opted for the 9:30 and made reservations to sit in the balcony. It was awesome. Homemade popcorn with REAL butter, friendly staff, plenty of blankets and pillows to get cozy with, air conditioning.....this place has it all. It was such a fun experience! We have never been to a theater like this before and we had SO much fun! We plan to surprise my SIL and her hubby and take them here one evening. Owner of this place is an absolute bitch! Went there to buy tickets for my family. I was hoping to get tickets in advance thinking the show could sell out as it was a newer release. She mentioned that she would only sell me tickets 30 minutes prior to the show. My response was ok I was just worried that it might sell out. She then, I'm not kidding, tells me to calm down And take it down a notch. Huh!? Is she hyper sensitive? Having a bad day!? Anyway i started to walk out and said I'll come back later. As I was walking away I could still hear her mumbling and saying things behind my back. Well I didn't take it. I went back and told her she was being rude. We came to Cle Elum for snow but found the Roslyn Theater instead. It's a quick 10 minute drive from Cle Elum, and very easy to find. There's plenty of street parking and a parking lot in the back. We read so much about the popcorn but it seemed average to us. They do have the awesome ice and incredibly friendly staff! The seats were cozy but the rows are very close together. The picture and sound quality was just as good as a chain theater. Overall, it was a great small town experience. A theater we will definitely recommend and be returning to! read more

I wanted to give them more stars, you have to give them credit for being the ONLY movie theater in upper Kittitas County, AND they do show first run movies. The next closest movie house is 35 miles away. But.... I may be the only person on earth to have issues with this place, everyone else seems to think seeing movies in an old mortuary where you can bring your dog and people can walk in front of the projector during the movie - is somehow charming. I guess the downside is that this building was not a purpose-built movie theater. It has about 80 seats, rather comfy rocking ones, but most are sitting on a flat floor, and you look up at the screen. This is not comfortable, and is opposite of the stadium seating found in newer theaters. If you go, try to get into a loge seat, up next to the projection room. They cost a little more, but you won't need a chiropractor afterwards. Well, unless you tumble down the stairway in the dark. Please also keep in mind this is not a modern building, there is nothing fancy like fire sprinklers or robust ventilation. But they do have old-time ambience, a cozy little lobby, and some people like the popcorn with a wide variety of toppings - bleu cheese, anyone? read more

I think I would break down and cry if this place ever went away. I believe this is an old converted mortuary. You can park right next to it and go in and see a movie. We have been going here for 20 years and love it. They used to have at least one cat that would sometimes jump into your lap while the movie was on. If you don't mind spending an extra buck the upstairs Loge section has two rows of exclusive seating, but downstairs is great too. read more

Unique is the word most people use to describe the Roslyn theatre. The venue is set in a historical building with one movie screen. You can bring your well mannered dog or cat. Blankets are offered in case you want to bundle up while watching the movie. The theater itself has a main seating area, a stage, and a balcony (or loge area). The theatre is small. The rows are close together and entry is one way as seating butts up against a wall. In the main seating area there are no cup holders. It feels like sitting on the floor once you sink or fall into your seat. If you have bad knees be forewarned. The seats lean way back and you have no control over this. It was not the most comfortable experience. The main seating area has period seating (read antique old). It has its charm for the overall atmosphere of a quirky, unique theatre. The movie selection is always a current release. Ticket prices, and snacks are affordable. Bagels are on the menu and that is different. They also have Bragg's amino acids as part of the condiments. I appreciate that. Loge seating can be reserved for $1 more. The loge has cup holders and appears to have newer seating. The screen is not as large as a chain big box theater, but it's doable. The staff was polite. Unique is the appropriate adjective. Unique is not exceptional. It was different; a pleasant experience, but not spectacular. read more

Was this place unique? Yes, and in a good way! We paid the extra $1 to sit in the loge and highly recommend it. The prices of concessions are very affordable (when you compare it to a big time movie theater chain, like Regal). It was $2 for a mini-me popcorn but only $0.50 more for a small! We were told by so many locals to get the popcorn and to try the yeast. Based on the reviews here and the locals' suggestions, we made sure to purchase some popcorn. It was good but it wasn't anything to write home about. I was also a bit put off by the reception of the employees. Especially dealing with such a small crowd of movie-goers, I would have expected them to be friendlier! We scored a deal with a local B&B for movie passes (we paid the loge upgrade) and are glad we were able to experience such an adorable theatre. My husband and I highly recommend paying the extra $1 to sit upstairs in the loge and only wish our experience was friendlier. All in all, we would still return for a movie when in town again :) read more
