I feel very much the same way about this spot as I do the other theater down in Union gap - both serve their purpose but don't do it as well as they could. With a few small changes, it could be significantly better, but to be great would take a lot! The box office at the front is the first bottleneck. It's a bit small and it shows when things are busy as lines can quickly extend out the doors. On the plus side the folks working here are always pleasant and get through things relatively quickly. Biggest issue - they only take cash! It's 2016, we can tweet from space and we're rapidly transitioning to a cashless world where I pay with my phone for everything, and we're still paying for these $10 tickets in cash. The ATM in the lobby means you don't have to leave to get more, but the $2.50 surcharge is pretty bush league. Please charge me $0.50 more for the convenience of not having to carry physical money. But I digress. The theaters are fine, with a good amount of seating, excellent sound and picture quality. The actual chairs are a bit dated and could use some additional cushion, but they're not so uncomfortable that it takes away much from the experience. The theater as it stands is very middle of the road and if they gave us the option of paying with cards, it would go a long way for the convenience factor! read more

ROUGH. At one time, maybe a theater which smells like desperation and carpets so dirty and worn the only part which is clean are the edges in which you could see the original colors. Low ceilings - makes you feel like you are being pressed in a vice. 'Stadium' seating - only provides rise over run, and the seats feel like concrete. I can understand this is an independent chain, or maybe aligned with one or two other locations - but wow - take advantage of low rates of business capital and invest in an upgrade to the overall environment. Positive note - staff is friendly. Sound quality decent. Pre-show entertainment - local commercials from businesses in the Yakima area - felt like we were reading the yellow pages. With so many outlets for entertainment - truly surprised the Yakima Cinema still rolls cellulose. read more

This is an old school (80s-70s style?) movie theater a stone's throw from the clear blue Naches river. In most respects this would seem like a boring standard film house, but what i like about this theater is that I've seen some honest to goodness independent films at this facility. For eastern WA, this is something which should be applauded. Some of the cool movies I've seen over the years: Christmas In The Clouds, A Better Life, and Tree Of Life. A few negatives: the HVAC system is pretty noisy here, and they don't take credit cards (although they do have atms). These are issues I'd gladly deal with for good films. A friend and I recently went to see the new Terminator movie at the Yakima Cinema. We are both seniors so I was very surprised when the cashier said that will be 22.00. " I said what did you say" ? He said there is no longer a senior discount and all matinee tickets are now 11.00. My friend said " I guess they don't care about us". The cashier replied " No I guess not". I asked the concessions cashier why the senior discount was removed and he informed me the minimum wage rate is going up in January and they are getting a jump start on it. First of all there should have been a notice of increased rates in the newspaper and I should be able to find the ticket prices on the website. They are not posted. Second, I find it appalling that the senior discount was revoked. Many seniors are on a fixed income and may not be able to afford 11.00 for a matinee ticket. There are very few people in the theatre during matinee times and most of them are senior citizens. I can guarantee that Mercy will have even less patronage after this price hike. read more

You know when you walk into an old theatre and you feel the nostalgia hit you right in the heart...the popcorn wafts memories of your childhood through your nostrils. The fluorescent lights blind you with thoughts of more simple times. Yeah, that's what Yakima Cinema did for me. We came here to watch IT. I really wanted to go to the Orion but time constraints sent us here. I was pleasantly surprised to see a good amount of people, without it being uncomfortably packed. The line for concessions was long. The ticket checker was friendly and smiled as she sent us in the direction of our movie. I loved everything about this establishment. Right down to the wooden numbers on the walls. Dont change a thing. There arent too many of these gems left. I will definitely be back. Yakima Cinemas is officially our go to theatre to catch a flick. Love love love. read more

Went to the movies tonight. Poor choice of theatre. A mid 80's style $1 movie venue. Horrible seating. Sound as good as a A M Transitor Radio, "We could hear every word spoken in the theater, not so for the Feature Presentation" Even when informed of the low volume by several Guests NO one took action. Should have known this place sucked when the had more people working than attending the movie, 11 people in the entire theater. As a water drinker, I was offended by having to pay $4.75 for a large cup which had 1/2 a scoop ice. They refused to fill it, making me go to the water fountain. Of course, the cup didn't fit. They refused to fill it even though there was a sink in plain site. Their claim was they had no way to fill it. So I got charged the price of a large soda for a cup with a smidge of ice. read more

growing up in Yakima, this Cinema was my favorite for movies. When I was a kid (in the 90's) this place was THE theater to see movies in town. Paying a visit to family this past weekend (I live in California now) and I remembered movies being really affordable last time I was here, so I decided to catch a flick. I noticed that prices have gone up, but at first didn't mind. Then I handed my card to the cashier and she said "cash only" and pointed to the ATM. I was flummoxed. $11.50 plus $2.50 for the ATM fee = as much as a movie ticket costs here in Los Angeles. But theaters in L.A. are SO much BETTER, the difference can't be over stated. I was thinking that with prices jacked up maybe the theater has undergone some renovation or remodeling? That's a hard NO. The carpet, seats, bathroom fixtures, everything is the same from the last time I was here, which I think was around 2009, (not that it had been updated recently at that point either. this theater is in bad shape you guys, is what I'm getting at.) The ceiling tiles in the movie house had obvious water damage. If you live in Yakima here's my advice - go to the AMC in Kennewick or make a trip to Seattle for IMAX movies for the big blockbusters with a lot of visual effects. Save your money and wait for the Netflix release until the Mercy empire can step into this century and start taking credit/debit cards. Chances are your TV at home has better picture quality and your house is probably much cleaner and updated. The stale chips and dry popcorn were the icing on the mediocre cake that is Mercy Theaters. read more

Movie times online are at least an hour off of real time. Lady at the counter couldn't tell me if there were only general admission tickets available for the show time we were watching. She just sat there and looked at me like I was talking another language. Only language I know is English. Kind of frustrating...but even more that we showed up an hour early to the movie when my sitter was only for the movie time. read more

I thought this theater was ok. I'm use to fancy theaters in Vegas with leather reclining seats but this will due, I'm not a hater. I like the movie money my daughter got to use hers to see the movie. Absolute disapproval! Was stuck sitting next to 6 young girls who were loud, texting, making phone calls and all around rude. Asked them to be quiet or I would get a manager. The behavior continued. I talked to the manager and missed part of the movie only to find my complaint fell on def ears. One of the girls called her family after I made the complaint and had her whole family waiting outside to start a fight with me. Called the police twice and waited an hour for them to arrive just so I could leave the theater safely. Bullshit. Will never go again. Filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

If it's playing at the Majestic, go there instead! At the Yakima Cinema, the employees almost act as if you are there for them, not that they are getting paid to provide a service to you, the customer. I'm not sure how the Majestic has such a better atmosphere; maybe it's the management. read more

This theater plays most of the foreign, romance/comedy films. There are also the majestic (largest, plays children's films and expected large-sale films) and the plaza (plays horror). The prices are great compared to other theaters (AMC, Regal...) Concession prices are lower, but they typically offer no refills on anything. They don't accept credit/debit. Only cash, which is awful for the year 2010. Bags, purses must be checked at the ticket podium. Company policy. (If you have a problem with it, just consider people HAVE brought in weapons) As for the atmosphere, very old cliche theater setting, which I think is enjoyable when going to the cinema. The yakima cinema is a bit outdated though, the majestic is the more updated theater. The employees: I've never seen any of them act inappropriate to whats being doled out by an arrogant customer. I have been to many theaters in different regions of the country, and this one is different with its policies and because it's locally owned. But I also have to say that I have never seen or heard so many rude, stupid customers in my ENTIRE life, than in yakima, wa. Remember: employees working at the theater, or even grocery store, coffee house, beauty supply, are usually working part time for minimum wage and no benefits. As far as I can tell they're there to work a register, give you some popcorn and candy, and then clean up the publics disgusting mess in the theater house and bathrooms later.
