I came here for an induction of labor acupuncture session. Dr. Lo was very informative before my visit and was very easy to talk to. I went in for my appointment, and I was a week over my due date. I had never had acupuncture before so I was nervous, but Dr Lo made me laugh and put me at ease. She educated me on eastern medicine and how I should take care of myself after giving birth. I felt it was kinda pricey but I went into labor later that night but it was my first baby, so it progressed very slowly and gave birth Tuesday night. I would recommend this place, but I really wish insurance would help pay for some part of it. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Melissa Lo since August of 2015. Prior to that, I've never had acupuncture before. The Monrovia office is located at a corner house located on the southwest corner of Walnut Ave and Ivy Avenue. (Ivy Avenue parallels Myrtle Avenue). There's street parking or a small lot behind the house. I've been here not only for acupuncture, but also had cupping, Meridian Therapy, and Moxa. The office inside is nice and they have multiple rooms for patients. The staff is good about calling you ahead to remind you of your appointment. After your session, they offer you some hot tea. You can also get herbal supplements if needed. They accept most insurance. Melissa definitely knows her stuff and cares about each of her patients. Other than pain management and other problems, Melissa is also known for treating infertility. She splits her time between the Pasadena and Monrovia office but I've only been to the Monrovia location as it's close to my office. I've been going to Joanie for over a year now and I can't imagine getting a facial anywhere else now. What I love about Joanie is that the first time I met her, she told me my skin was beautiful. She is very knowledgable about skin and she's never pushy like a lot of facial places that make you commit and fork out a lump sum of cash to some kind of huge facial package. Joanie the most kindest and sweetest aesthetician I have ever met. A little background about my skin, I've always dealt with difficult skin during my teenage years and when I came to Joanie she recommended that I do a light peel and microdermabrasion. After maybe 2-3 visits, I could already see a dramatic improvement to my skin. The space is pretty big inside and very relaxing and spa-like with comfortable waiting chairs, a zen-like water display and drinking water for customers in the front lobby area. I had no idea this place was so close to my house. I've never tried acupuncture before but I have a hard time sleeping and staying asleep, I stress a lot, I have had prommblems that couldn't not be fixed by visiting the doctors. I fell on my knee at my office, after the cleaning lady clean our office wood floor with pledge. After I got my x-ray and found out that nothing was broken, I went to see a western doctor and he suggested physical therapy. He told me that my knee will never be the same. I was not so excited about doing physical therapy 3 times a week, so I went to see Dr Melissa Lo. You can't beat the service and environment this office provides. I've been to at least 20 difference acupuncturist office around the SGV and this the nicest and most calming/peaceful place you will encounter. Almost spa like. Now besides the great ambiance, Dr. Lo is very knowledgeable with reducing pain and stress and instead of just giving you pain medication like western practitioners do. Acupuncture does NOT hurt at all. You may feel some slight pressure based on the muscle tension in the area you experience pain however, after that you will feel the clogged energy clear up go back to its proper circulation. I always experience what I call a "body high" as I am ridiculously relaxed, calm and centered as if I just came back from a weekend spa in Palm Springs which I can achieve after 90 min at this place after each session and I sleep better for days after each treatment. I came into Origin Natural Care to see Dr. Lo to get something for stomach problems after eating raw oysters at a casino near San Diego. Yep you guessed it, I had pretty bad food poisoning that went on for nearly 4 days. Dr. Lo gave me some herbal medicine to take before meals (to settle the stomach) and after meals (to aid digestion). Up to that point, I didn't hardly want to eat anything at all because my stomach was so terribly upset and I literally felt green; but after taking the herbal medicine, within less than 24 hours my stomach was better, and my appetite was back. I sent to Origin to see their aesthetician, Joanie, who is awesome! Joanie is very sweet, knowledgeable and skilled when it comes to treating skin. As a guy, I never thought about seeing anyone for my skin. But my then fiance strongly, I say strongly, suggested that I see someone to improve my skin for our upcoming wedding day. I was really resistant, but I'm glad I went! The experience with Joanie was extremely relaxing, pleasant and soothing. I went for a first session, and then followed up with 2 more. I avoid going to doctors or clinics as much as possible, but I actually enjoyed and looked forward to my appointments with Joanie. I felt energized and refreshed before heading off to work. I went to see Dr Lo after my friend suggested seeing an acupuncturist to help with my allergies since popping meds weren't working (worst allergy season ever!). I was immediately greeted by a friendly staff in this quant craftsmen like home which serves as the treatment center. I was shown into a room and Dr. Lo started the procedure. I admit I was nervous at first (nobody likes needles rights?!) but Dr Lo was vey patient and thorough in explaining what she was doing. Dr. Lo is a great acupuncturist who is so easy to get along with. I started seeing her about two years ago for nutrition and acupuncture. It was my first time getting acupuncture so I felt a bit uneasy but she was always very patient, understanding and reassuring. I went in with chronic fatigue and TMJ and always felt refreshed and better after every appointment. She also uses muscle testing for the nutrition portion of the treatment and really goes into detail and explains everything to her patients to make sure they understand the proper diet and steps to stay healthy. The location is very accessible on the corner of the block with a lot of parking around. The office is a clean, relaxing atmosphere and is a super cute renovated house. I've been to Origin Natural Care since their Pasadena location. I was more than happy when they opened in Monrovia because it's closer to me. I've been a patient at Origin for more than 6 yrs and this is my go-to place whenever I have any aches or stress. I am always able to reach Dr. Lo when I need treatment. She even stayed after closing one time so I can pick up my medications. I was stuck in traffic, called her office and she was very understanding. I brought my father to see Dr. Lo recently when he lost movement of his left arm. My father's not the easiest to get along with. Not only is he hard of hearing, he's also old school stubborn and always cynical of people. But Dr. Lo performed a miracle! He's better now and she won him over with her bedside manners and skill. My husband is an MD and he's had his doubts about "alternative medicine." He now goes to her and also recommends his patients to see her for acupuncture. I trust Dr. Lo to care for my family and that is the best compliment anyone can get. I know they seem "pricey" and can't accept all insurance. Their prices are reasonable and they are upfront about it. We are "cash" patients but she's worth it. There are other places that take our insurance, but we rather go to her because we trust her to take care of us. read more

From the first day I met Dr. Lo for my initial consultation, my husband and I were both impressed at how knowledgeable she is and her confidence in the methods quickly put us at ease. After years of being unable to get pregnant, I got pregnant within the first month of treatment by Dr Lo. I was in utter disbelief. She not only helped us get pregnant, but she helped me throughout my entire pregnancy and post-partum. Before meeting Dr. Lo, we were sadly just starting to give up hope and were considering other options. I must say I've never experienced an actual acupuncture session before so naturally I was a bit nervous when I came to see Dr. Melissa Lo for an acute shoulder injury I had a few weeks back. Most acupuncturists come off too aggressive for me so I never brought myself to try it until now. As a health practitioner myself, I always appreciate quality patient care and that is what Dr. Lo delivers! Her staff was very welcoming and I was seen right away. After she thoroughly examined my injuries, she explained what was going on and how acupuncture was going to help me. I really appreciate the time she took to explain each part of my treatment and the benefits of each because it really helped me understand what she was doing (and allowed me to be more open about those needles!). I had the meridian massage first - which really helped soothed my body and then I had the cupping in areas surrounding my shoulder. Dr. Lo was very gentle when placing the needles in my body - honestly I barely felt them! I was so relaxed I even took a little nap during my session! Today I had a 2:30pm appointment with Dr. Lo here at the Monrovia location. At 2:25pm as I was walking from my car to the office I received a call from Dr. Lo's assistant informing me that I needed to pay the office's 'cash price' for my last three visits prior to my insurance claims being processed. Once I arrived I explained to Dr. Lo (why I had to explain this to her is beyond me) that at the beginning of the year when there is a requirement to meet your deductible, my insurance company (rightfully so) advised me to hold off making any payments until the claim was processed, and that once it was the EOB (Explanation of Benefits) would show exactly what I owed that physician when factoring in what portion of my deductible had been met, the physicians contracted rate with the carrier etc. I explained to Dr. Lo that I had checked online and that my carrier had not received any claims for 2017 from their office as of yet. I also explained that if I paid them their 'cash price' prior to the claims being processed by my carrier and then say I saw a physician two days later who billed electronically on the same day and the carrier received the other physicians claim/claims first, I would have to pay my deductible again to that physician and get a refund for overpayment from her office. This is why insurance companies recommend waiting until a claim has been processed (especially when you are seeing/there is a possibly of you seeing more than one medical provider in the phase of meeting your deductible) prior to making a payment to your physician. Once a claim has been processed, it outlines very clearly what you owe the provider in terms of your co-pay, your co-insurance and what else you owe them if anything prior to your deductible being met at the carrier's contracted rate. Dr. Melissa Lo seemed to understand all of this but didn't care. She once again wanted me to pay 'the cash price' prior to the claims being processed. I had been seeing Dr. Lo since the summer of 2016, so I was not a new patient by any means and out of 16 or so visits in 2016 (8 per quarter) there had been no issues with any claims being denied so there was no reason for her to think there would be any kind of issue. Either way when I told her I wanted to wait until I received an EOB from the carrier either verbally or via mail or online that showed both of us exactly what I owed her for each visit, she refused to treat me. Obviously, this was completely unprofessional. I told her I no longer wanted to see her as an acupuncturist, and that once I received an EOB for my three visits in 2017, I would pay her what I owed as instructed by my insurance company at the contracted rate. Dr. Lo was rude, petty, and again incredibly unprofessional in the way she handled the situation today. After driving out to Monrovia, she refused to treat me and obviously I left feeling horrible. And so I would recommend going elsewhere if you're looking for an acupuncturist. read more
