Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty massive. However, this massive parking lot is shared by several other doctor's offices. So, the lot does get full very quickly. This place has absolutely terrible customer service. Would not recommend. They constantly reschedule via text at the very last minute. Even when I do show up for an appointment, I've waited an hour before they finally tell me that they'd need to reschedule for another time. My mother goes to this acupuncture office and her insurance schedules her for a certain number of visits. These visits are scheduled for specific days, days that comply with my mother's schedule. For her visits lately the receptionist and doctors keep rescheduling her last minute even though she has told them that she cannot reschedule. The office knows of this information but still rescheduled her every time last minute. NEVER go to this office, they will rip you off. The doctors she sees is Dr.Hu and Dr.Lim. Please reconsider the receptionist bad work habits if deciding that you will come here for treatment. They don't seem to care for their patients at all. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Cathryn Hu's about 8 years. She is AMAZING! When I first went to see her, I was in such pain that I had difficulty sleeping and my hand and foot were numb. Her diagnosis was right on, which was confirmed with an MRI she ordered. The western medical approach would be neck surgery/spinal fusion. I keep on a regular maintenance program which is once a month. I live a normal, active life and I am pain free! The needles don't hurt, and I think the comment below from WC is a lot of BS. Dr. Hu uses gentle electronic pluses to accelerate the process. it works great! Over the years, before being referred to Dr. Hu, I visited quite a few Acupuncturists and let me tell you, they are not all alike. Many offer no results and are like mechanics. I have tried chiropractic treatment and again with no results, many times leaving in more pain than i came in with. Dr. Hu is gifted. She teaches acupuncture at UC Irvine, is allowed to practice in hospitals and has lectured to hundreds of MDs about using acupuncture instead of anesthesia for open heart surgery. Wow! Going in for acupuncture for the first time, I was very skeptical. I went in to attempt to treat neuropathy (nerve damage) in my hands and feet as a result of cancer treatments. However, after receiving two treatments (and with more to come) I've already seen a noticeable improvement in my condition. I can walk much much greater distances nearly pain-free and can already use my hands a bit more. And what is a man without his hands!? These hands put us on top of the food chain! The facilities are very clean and very accommodating. You get a private room for treatment - the rooms are pleasantly lit and relaxing while you receive treatments. The waiting area is warmly lit and comfortable.. The staff so far have been incredibly friendly, including the doctors. When I looked up acupuncturists in my 10-mile area, I got over 100 results (I suppose what do you expect in Arcadia?). Advanced Acupuncture treats a huge variety of problems, many, or possibly all of which are detailed on their site. I chose them based on what appeared to be a scientific, professional approach to acupuncture and was not disappointed. Dr. Hu is one of the most compassionate doctors I've ever met. At my first acupuncture session, I noticed the amount of care she has for her patients. She began giving me advice about my medical care and referrals. I thought that these were simply gestures, but I soon realized that she truly cares. Each time I went back, she had more information to give me - and it was evident that she was thinking about my case even after my sessions. Being Taiwanese, I've been to many acupuncturists from a young age. However, I've never met anyone with the amount of TCM (traditional chinese medicine) and acupuncture experience coupled with extensive knowledge of traditional Western medicine. She works with your other doctors to ensure that you are receiving the best health care, with the least amount of side effects. Many times, she's able to find natural solutions that replace the more severe traditional treatments. My entire family now visits Dr. Hu for various health concerns. Dr. Cathryn Hu is simply amazing. Both my husband and I have been patients of hers for several years, She has cured many health ailments and sports injuries we have been suffering for years. For example, my husband had injured his shoulder. After receiving an MRI, he was told he would have to undergo exploratory surgery because the results were inconclusive. We went to Dr. Hu for a second opinion. After 7 sessions, he had full range of motion and did not have to have surgery. Pregnant and thinking about acupuncture for relief because painkillers and other treatments are off-limits? GOOD IDEA. Choosing Dr. Hu? BAD IDEA. I'm 9 months pregnant and have been having migraines. Acupuncture is covered under my insurance plan; I'd had it before for other things, so I figured it'd help. Although I asked to be referred to someone else, my primary care physician sent me here for whatever reason. Well, now I know. I'd rather pay out of pocket for someone who actually gets the job done. After my unfortunate first experience with 'Advanced Acupuncture,' I won't be back. Here's why: 1. The office and treatment rooms SUCK. Sterile, fluorescent, totally unsoothing. I might as well have been going in for a colonoscopy. 2. Strangely (given the environment is excessively medical), the focus here seems to be cosmetic. The video they had playing in the waiting room was all about how "everyone asks me why I don't age since I've been coming to Dr. Hu!" Didn't see anything about pain relief. Trust me. I spent A LOT of time in the waiting room, because... 3. As a new patient they give you 13 pages of paperwork to fill out. Which wasn't a big deal for me necessarily, I normally tear through this stuff (even like paperwork, honestly). The problem is that they force you to fill it all out electronically on their OFFICE iPAD - which glitches out at every turn and makes you painstakingly enter and reenter everything. It took me over half an hour to get through it. I didn't come in with a headache, but by the time I was done with their ridiculous protocol, I sure as hell had one. 4. First thing, once you're in the room? Strip down to a hospital gown. Forget meeting, saying hi to your acupuncturist or discussing your needs beforehand. 5. I should have just left. Two of the first things Dr. Hu said to me were: "Ohhh, big baby!" (Not at all. I was measured yesterday and baby looks to be 6-7 lbs. But thanks for making me feel like a whale.); "Did you conceive naturally?"(Um. What? I am a young woman in very good health, why would there be an assumption otherwise?) 6. MOST IMPORTANTLY: The treatment seemed to have little to no effect. In fact, I left feeling substantially more stressed than when I arrived. 100% fail. Go elsewhere. read more

Just got back from seeing Cathryn Hu at the Santa Monica location, although "seeing" isn't quite accurate because I never actually made it to a treatment room this time - after waiting for 30 minutes, but I'll get to that. I originally tried acupuncture here many months ago, for pain relief. Similar to what another reviewer said, the environment is both sterile (aka hospital gown and barren treatment rooms) and strange (i.e. the video playing on loop about "how do you look so young!") I could live with that is the treatment were good but it wasn't. What was worse than the environment was Hu's bedside manner. Before, during and after treating me, she felt cold and uncaring, abrupt and harsh in how she spoke, and even after I got emotional and teared up about a personal medical related matter, she was awkward in how she reacted and the questions she asked. Worst of all, however, I didn't feel better physically after the acupuncture treatment, but worse than before! I remember feeling not good physically - whereas every other place I've gone (and I've been to at least 3 other acupuncturists), I leave acupuncture feeling better both physically and emotionally. That was not the case here. Overall the whole encounter was unpleasant and awkward. That was months ago and I almost forgot about it. Then I was looking for an acupuncturist closer to my home and my friend recommended Hu. My friend has been going for fertility issues for some time. Trusting her referral, I called the office for info on their pain management, then mistakenly made an appointment to go - without consulting yelp or looking into who the acupuncturist was. Arriving at the office today, I suddenly realized who I going to be seeing and was disappointed. I stuck with it however, because I didn't want to cancel and as my spouse said "Give them a second chance." Unfortunately or maybe fortunately, I never got to see Hu. Half an hour in, there was still no sign of being able to see her. The guy sitting next to me was taken to a room after 45 minutes of waiting. (Oh and that was after being taken back to be put in a room, but then being told it wasn't ready yet, then being brought back out to the waiting area.) To me, that's unacceptable and unprofessional, and her services are definitely not worth the wait. In my view, her services are bad. I would stay away. read more

Advanced Acupuncture is an amazing place. I heard about them from a friend. It is always difficult finding a place you can truly trust. I have been coming here at least once or twice a week since August 2021. Dr. Hu has been amazing. She has been helping me as I go through my cancer treatments. She is very thorough in providing relief for the pain I experience while receiving treatments and extensive testing. Dr. Hu truly listens to me when I share my experiences and frustrations working with other doctors. I feel most doctors do not take the time to sit down and truly listen to the patient. Dr. Hu takes the time to listen and provides relief for the pain but also helps in other areas of my life. I feel Dr. Hu truly cares about people and loves what she does to help others. I would be lost without Dr. Hu's guidance and encouragement. She has helped me in so many ways as I continue working through my cancer treatments. The office and medical staff are also very helpful and courteous to me and other patients. They take the time to listen and help answer my questions. It gives me peace of mind knowing that Advanced Acupuncture truly cares about people. Being in the office is so comforting and relaxing it sometimes feels like I am going for a spa treatment. I am so relaxed and at peace after my visits. If you are reading this and are considering acupuncture, I would highly recommend Advanced Acupuncture for yourself with any issues you are experiencing. Dr. Hu is a lovely person and a knowledgeable doctor. The office is clean and organized. To comment on some things a reviewer said (stephanie), the facial video is being played because Dr. Hu does like to promote that and also because it's the only video she has been able to make for her office because of a promotion she was running years ago. I don't understand why that was an issue for Ms. Stephanie but it was fascinating to watch. I came as a new patient a couple of months ago and have been staying because she has helped with my pain tremendously! I tried other acupuncture places and they were not as effective. The staff is incredibly friendly as well, always willing to help and Dr. Hu is always willing to give you a phone call to see how you are doing! How many doctors do that?! She is so gentle with the needles, I barely felt them which is amazing because I am extremely terrified of them but I was tired of everything else I was trying for the chronic pain I was in. I went to see Dr. Hu for pregnancy pains during my first trimester. It was my first time doing acupuncture but I am Chinese so am open-minded about the method. My experience with Dr. Hu was less than impressive. While she was nice and courteous she made several unfounded assertions that could not be backed up with evidence/research. This made me question her medical knowledge. She told me that bc I am having a difficult first trimester it must be because I am having a girl since a baby boy would have complemented my female hormones. Really? When I told her my sister had a difficult pregnancy when she had a boy, Dr. Hu responded, everyone is different. Hmm. Also, I heard that acupuncture isn't supposed to hurt but she literally hammered the needles into my skin without guiding me through the process which I found disconcerting given that she knew it was my first session ever. I am a new patient of Dr. Cathryn Hu's I was referred to her by a very good friend that knew I had been suffering for over 10 years with chronic sinusitis and allergies. I was currently on so many medications, singular, Symbicort inhaler, nasal spray and nothing was giving me any relief. The Monday night October 28th before I saw Dr. Hu I woke-up coughing and choking because of drainage 22 times I counted it. I was tired, stressed and my face was swollen from the sinus problems. I prayed my body had to have some rest. I saw Dr. Hu that Tuesday, October 29th I let her know I had never had acupuncture before. I remember how patient and kind she was. But most of all how she used her years of medical knowledge and experience to peel back all the layers of symptoms I had and how she was going to treat them. She went over test results that I had brought with me and ordered copies of test from doctors I had seen and followed-up with additional blood work. That Tuesday night I only woke -up coughing 4 times and by my third treatment I was no longer coughing and choking. I am NO LONGER taking the medications that didn't work to begin with. I must honestly say I responded miraculously. Dr. Hu's compassion, gentleness and humility show through in her interaction with her patients.
