I was very excited to try acupuncture as I've had severe eczema my entire life. Dr. Shelly Wu highlighted her knowledge and ability to treat eczema. The first appointment was promising and so I eagerly booked the next two weeks worth of appointments and paid for a treatment plan. After my second visit, the following day I woke up unable to walk on my left foot and had severe swelling and pain. I decided to give it a day to see if it would improve. However, the next morning I woke up in even more pain and the swelling had increased. That morning I reached out to John and Dr. Wu. Four hours went by and no response so I sent a follow up text. Five hours after the initial text was sent, they responded informing me that they are off for the day. They requested I send them some photos and told me that Dr. Wu would get back to me with some advice. I immediately responded with photos. I did not hear back from them for two hours so I sent them another text. Nearly SEVEN hours after my initial text, they informed me that she was at an all day conference and that she had no service and was unable to check her messages for the rest of the day. I then expressed how urgent the matter was and I was desperately seeking advice. They told me just to go to urgent care if I was really concerned. I never heard back from them again. They never followed up or offered any support or advice on how to go about the adverse reactions I was having to their acupuncture treatment. I've known Shelly for 18 years since we went to high school together, and she is the kindest person with passion in helping her patients in any way she can. Dr. Shelly and Johnny are the best people in the Sgv area for your acupuncture needs. It's a good size and very clean acupuncture clinic in the area. I was visiting LA for the summer and wanted to try acupuncture for my skin problems. I didn't know there's acupuncture for that, so I gave it a try. Luckily the clinic takes FSA/HSA so I was able to use it up. After like 4-5 sessions, along with taking eastern natural herbs and using a French brand skincare product for my acne, I was able to see my skin is getting better each time of visit. It was my first time doing acupuncture, needles doesn't scare me so it hurts a bit for the first time but it's not too bad. You get used to a bit of the pain and you're also releasing the fire in the body. The more painful it is the more fire you're releasing. I felt very calm and relaxed during each session. There's a peaceful and cool ambiance in the room. I was concerned about telehealth with Dr. Shelly bc I live outside of LA. Dr. Shelly was attentive and answered my questions. I came to see them a couple of years ago for facial acupuncture and they both seemed very friendly and nice! 10 sessions for about $1500. During our sessions, eventually Shelly would vaguely and ambiguously often tell me how they go to "business conferences" and if I was interested in "retiring early" as they were. They even gave me a book to read and I met them up at a coffee shop, because they said they were interested in "being my mentor?" As a young person, I quickly realized they were trying to induct me into an MLM HerbaLife type of pyramid scheme and blocked them both and stopped going here. After I said no, they had the audacity to ask for this flimsy book (about how to be a part of the MLM) back? Very suspicious, untrustworthy people. I thought I've written a review for Rapha but I guess I have been coming here before I even had a Yelp account and never wrote one for them! I initially saw Dr. Wu years ago for a facial rash that multiple visits to different dermatologists couldn't fix; the symptoms kinda go away for a bit after I took the prescribed medications, and then come back after I finished my meds, so I don't feel like they were working well. My facial rash was gone permanently after...maybe within 10 weekly visits of acupuncture and herbs? Along with this application of topical cream that worked really, really well (unfortunately has been discontinued by the manufacturer). Fast forward to now, I've developed new skin rashes on my arms and bumps on my face that Western medications cannot treat effectively, AGAIN, so I scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Wu to treat these. I feel like the rashes have healed up by like maybe the 7th weekly visit of acupuncture and herbs? I am very happy with the results! I suffered a Bell's palsy on 8/14/24 and that was my third time. It happened every 15 years. Ironic huh? My wife found out and in panic she called the office right away to see Dr Shelly. I resisted at first and was skeptical about getting accupuncture treatment. Then I decided to give it a shot. So far I have seen great results in my recovery. Most importantly, I'm recovering from my nerve damage from second BP suffered 15 years ago and it was diagnosed as a permanent damage via CT scan by my family medical neurologist, The symptoms suffered from nerve damage include weakness starting from my right lips upward thru right eye across my head to the back of my right ear ending up in severely tender spot. My journey has been long of all my health issues from Stage 4 Thymus Cancer, Out of control Diabetes, Lupus, Myasthenia Gravis, Gastroparesis, Arthritis from hands and knees, Alopecia Areata, 8 surgeries, and many mistakes from other Surgeons with my Provider. I went to see Dr. Wu since May 2023 for major bald spots of my Alopecia Areata only. I was so grateful how fast my process of growing hairs again. Beautiful Dr. Wu and her staff Johnny are amazing!! She's my go-to doctor when there are health concerns I cannot get resolved with my doctor. When I was 10 months pregnant, 40 weeks into the pregnancy, there are no signs of labor, my husband and I was worried and we tried everything. I was referred by a friend who had a successful nature induction with Dr. Wu, so I gave it a go. When I was in her clinic, Dr. Wu checked my pulse and told me I really had no signs of labor even though my doctor told me my baby's position is ready and it is any time now. So I ask Dr. Wu to perform the nature induction process even though she told me it might not work cuz my body has no signs of labor. I ended up checking in the hospital for labor two days after, but it was a smooth delivery although there was two complications, my medical induction only took 5 hours instead of 12 or 24 hours the most, and all thanks to Dr. Wu, getting my body ready for labor. On the other hand, my baby girl starts to show eczema on her skin especially her face in her second month. I've tried everything, seeing her pediatric and doing all the things I can do (she's a breastfed baby), there's nothing to help but seeing her condition worsen. Then here I am with Dr. Wu, not knowing she actually helps cure acne and all kinds of skin problems, she quickly introduces me to an ancient herbal cream that is without steroids and that really helped my baby fights for her eczema. Before seeing her, I've already used all the different brands of cream/ointments in the world and hydrocortisone for two months, and nothing worked. However, although the cream that Dr. Wu recommends heals slower that hydrocortisone at first, I can really see her eczema condition getting better and better each day. I have been wanting to come get acupuncture done by Dr. Wu since a few years ago but never got the chance to since I live pretty far from this area. I finally was able to come recently to get treatments and I am so happy that I did! I wanted to come because although I don't have visible breakouts on my face often, I do have a lot of red bumps and red spots on my face that lingered for years already. So I decided to give cosmetic acupuncture a try. It's quite interesting and may be terrifying for a first timer, but honestly it didn't hurt as much as I thought. You just feel a quick little pain (some spots you don't feel much at all, but some spots are more sensitive but still definitely bearable). I am now in my final week of treatment and I definitely see a huge difference! The bumps on my forehead are gone and the redness on my cheeks due to inflammation went down. Not only is Dr. Wu skillful and gentle with her acupuncture, she is also very knowledgeable. She always takes the time to answer the questions I have thoroughly and breaks things down so I can easily understand the concepts. Never realize acupuncture works THIS WELL!!!! and Yes, it was my first time trying acupuncture. I waited for a week to write this review. because i want to tell the real result. I went to Dr. Wu for serious allergic reaction on my face and also eczema on my legs, plus constipation.*_* after the first treatment. Dr.Wu told me that i should feel the result slowly,at night my itchiness on my face has lowered to 6. it was 10 so itchy that i couldnt sleep. and the second day lowered to 2ish. and the 3rd day is was not itchy anymore. and my allergy start making scab, even my eczema. its amazing, never expect my eczema actually stop itching and scab so fast. and today i went back for the 2nd treatment with my tummy problem. I couldnt poop regularly. it make my stomach look so super huge and i have roughly 3 people ask me if i am pregnant everyday. i was so frustrated and i massaged my tummy daily, tried to eat a lil healthier. nothing helped. 10 minutes after my treatment. I felt that i want to go to the restroom, and i did...amaze ball...lollll...its been so long...lol...yes, i am very happy and satisfy with Dr. Wu. This post is long overdue! A couple years ago I suddenly developed dyshidrotic eczema which basically meant I had fluid filled blisters all over my hands and soles of my feet. It was painfully itchy and a nightmare. I didn't want to go the route of steroid creams since you can form a dependency and get steroid withdrawal. Everything I read about my condition said it was incurable. I felt devastated. Dr. Wu met me with such kindness and assurance, and I felt hope that she could help me. I hate to write negative reviews, but I can finally think more clearly now that I'm out of the first-year-baby-haze. I came to this clinic while I was pregnant with some rashes, which I believe were related to my pregnancy hormones. Dr. Wu was very easy to talk to, but what really irked me about this office was the doctor ALWAYS ran behind on her appointments. I ALWAYS showed up on time for my appointments (I probably had 5 visits or so), but I'd always end up waiting for the doctor. There was one appointment where I was waiting around for 45 minutes. Can you imagine that you're trying to get acupuncture treatments to relax and calm down inflammation in your body when you're getting worked up and annoyed from all the waiting? And to top it off, the treatment rooms have very thin walls and you can hear everything-- even the noisy daycare center next door. Wow my skin has come such a long way from when I first started seeing Dr. Wu!! The picture above was my skin (around early April) before I started acupuncture treatment and the picture below (almost end of May) is my skin right now. The acne was primarily on my chin area due to going off the pill. The acne was so painful and I would get deep cysts that would grow one after another. I was desperate to cure my acne and getting my body on track after the pill, but knew that I wanted to treat it naturally. So I went on Yelp and searched naturopath and found Rapha Acupuncture. The reviews seemed convincing so I decided to go in for a consultation. Dr. Wu was very thorough in explaining why acne was flaring up on my face. She said it was due to toxins (probably all the synthetic hormones from the pill) building up in my body and in turn was also showing up on my face. She recommended that I come in twice a week for acupuncture treatment and take Chinese herbs 3x/day to detox my body. (Note: I've never done acupuncture before but the pain is actually not that bad. The cosmetic acupuncture hurts a bit, nothing unbearable tho) After 1 week, the acne calmed down a bit, but I would still get 1 or 2 pimples. Chinese medicine usually takes time to work so you have to be patient. By around the 3rd week (6 treatments in), I noticed a HUGE difference in my skin. No more new pimples/cysts and scarring starting to fade. I was so happy that my skin was FINALLY getting back to normal. The total cost of the treatments and herbs for a month was about $800-900. My insurance also didn't cover. It is expensive but I think it's totally worth it. I've tried so many prescription drugs (including Accutane), lasers, facial treatments but THIS really made a difference on my skin and I really think my acne will not be coming back! I still have a little bit of scarring so it will take time for that to I've learned that acne is usually a sign that something in the body is not right and you need to heal the body inside out in order to cure what's on your face.
