Corn flan

This was a fun restaurant my friend had recommended. Staff were so cool and so passionate about their food and preparation. I asked which items were the most popular for appetizers and he had recommended guacamole and salmon ceviche and then that was followed by Flats, croquet, and seared beef. All so delicious! Then we were craving a salad and saw that they had a Caesar salad that was uniquely made without Romaine lettuce. It was also quite good! Had to finish this great meal with a corn flan which was smooth and creamy. Loved this place, the staff, and will for sure come back.

My current favorite date nite spot! Food is delicious and drinks are killer! Service goes above and beyond ! I recommend getting the drink called "Agua Santa" and definitely get the agua chile ! Mouth is watering just thinking about it !

Food, service, and ambiance was top notch! We had the croquetas de jaiba y poblano, quesadillitas de short rib con mole, and flautitas de atun ahumado - all excellent. The servers were attentive and always made sure we had a great time! Looking forward to being some friends and family here!

Love the design. Sat at the bar early on a Friday night. Bartender was busy but very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were tasty. He did upsell us on a $60 glass of mezcal I'm not sure we would have paid that much for. We ordered the seafood floutas and they were delicious. Excellent crispness and flavor. Also got the tuna tartar, a little too saucy for us and the crab tostada. Also quite tasty. Personality of the bartender was so great we would definitely be back.

Very IG worth pictures, but that's all it is. I came with a friend for SD restaurant week and we ordered blue crab which came with a little salad, ceviche, tacos that you assemble yourself, and the 2 cake options offered. Pros: - Easy to make a reservation through Open Table. - Really cute and intimate setting for dates, GNO, etc. Cons: - Crab cakes were really creamy...I'm used to crab lumps in my crabcakes. The salad it came with was very salty? Ceviche was not bad, marinade was sweet, but refreshing. Tacos were okay. Chocolate cake was very fudgy, rich but in the best way possible. However, the regular cake was crazy dry. - Parking can be difficult since it faces a Main Street. This place is more of a one and done for me.

My friend recommended that we come here as we were both craving something unique, seafood forward, and easily shareable. I can easily say this was the best meal on my San Diego trip that I had. We made a reservation and by the time we got there at 8:30, the place was alive and full, but it did not look like too many more seats came in after. There are several open air rooms with booth, table and bar seating. Music in here is great. Our waiter, Miguel, was fantastic. We each had an Agua Santa, and a Margarita which were both refreshing. To share, we split a guacamole, a tuna tartar and the crab tostada. Everything was SO good. I had never had guacamole like this before, as this one came with coconut cream that our server poured over it. It really complimented the creams of the avocado and added a nice, sweet flavor. It also came with plenty of fresh chips. The tuna tartar was super filling as well and we felt like this + the crab tostada had more than enough meat and toppings. The jocoque, which is kind of like a crema, on the tartar was perfection and they brought blue corn tostadas for us to top with this dish. I hope to come back here to try their salmon tartar as well! The desserts look fire as well. 5/5 stars, easily.

Great staff, good service, interior design is amazing! Food is decent, wish the dishes have more substance to it, within 8 bites and 5-10 minutes dish is finished. Wished portion size is bigger for the price you're paying. Staff was accommodating to our party of 7 for birthday girl with dessert. They did a great job. Definitely come here for date vibes it seemed very romantic but could also be family/adult friendly as well

Delicious food and drinks and service was amaze! Decor is soooo prettty! Ceviche was super fresh and mole had a lot of depth of flavor.

Ceviche de salmos was delicious and really fresh.

Everything was really good. We ordered a totally of 7 food items and 3 deserts. Everything tasted fresh and the service was great!

Origen exceeded expectations! Authentic flavors that reminded me of my home in Mexico, but with a presentation and vibe that feels right in SD. Will definitely be back!

There's so much to love about Origen. 5 stars for the food, decor, and the service. From the moment you step inside, you're transported from the busy street of North Park to a tastefully decorated, modern, sleek and trendy aesthetically pleasing establishment. Also love the name, Origen is the Spanish word for origin. The 2 owners are from Mexico City and the food concept is Latin classics with a modern elevated twist on in their dishes. The menu offers the perfect selection of small plates to share from fresh seafood tartare to savory short rib quesadillas, there's a variety of options to create the perfect tasting menu. Don't forget to order the croquettes and the flautas as well, both are seafood items and were delicious. It's a lively atmosphere with a bright ambiance. Perfect for a date, a celebration, and everything in between with service that is attentive, informative, and kind.

Finally got a chance to check out the recent addition to Park Boulevard, Origen. Great to see this and other new spots pop up right on the border of Hillcrest/Northpark. If you blink you'll miss this, very vibey, contemporary Mexican cuisine curated. tapas-style eatery. At first glance, the creative design mirrors a cool art gallery and the plating matches the aesthetic well. Our group was seated quickly on a rainy yet buzzy Friday night. If you're mezcal fan, this spot is for you!!! Good selection of Mexican curated drinks and the food menu is perfect for sharing with a group. We opted for the margaritas, shot + flautas, guacamole, shrimp aguachile, crab fritters and the mole quesadillas. Favorite bite of the night had to be the aguachile. I could have finished another plate by myself!!! Fantastic drinks. Service was a bit slow but but to be expected for a Friday. I'll definitely be back to try more! Give this place a try.

Had dinner here for a date night on a Sunday. Was pretty quiet, as it was when they first opened. Love the decor and vibe. Definitely feels like you could be in Baja. Tried their michelada - which is made with a pickle beer (got em!)! And my bf had a mezcalina mocktail. Tried their smoked tuna flauta with a 1oz shot of tequila-- perfect bite. We also tried their salmon ceviche (a bit tart), quesadillitas (with mole) -- the mole was very flavorful and then a full order of the smoke tuna flautas. Would def come again.

This place has been a staple of ours, we've seen the different menu changes over a few years. We've done Cinco De Mayo, date nights, and brought family here. Unfortunately they got rid of our favorite chocolate cake (a few years ago) and we're still holding out hope they'd bring it back. We always get the short rib machaca cheese crisp, it's been a solid choice 6 years and counting. It's very crispy and comes with guacamole on top, but serves almost like a pizza. This time around we tried the birria taco and it was good, we even dipped our cheese crisp in the consumé. We tried the apple empanada, I'll definitely get it again. It's not too sweet and very crispy; a good sharing option where you can have one each! *Not pictured is the carafe of sangria we had. We almost always get it, if we don't get a margarita. They have outdoor seating and indoor seating. The outdoor has some umbrellas and lights. The booths inside aren't high backs, but still nice. Can get a little loud some nights, but nothing too crazy. Of note, if you're watching a movie at AMC they're still doing discount for your meal!

My work team met up here on a Friday evening to celebrate a promotion. I believe there were 10 of us. Table was already set up for us since our Lead made reservations. Chips and salsa were already on the table. So I have to say, it's extremely loud in here. To the point I was getting a headache due to us practically screaming at each while talking. It wasn't overly crowded but a steady flow of people coming through. The menu consists of your typical Mexican food restaurant. I ordered the Spicy Tiger Shrimp fajitas, and a El Tesoro tequila-neat. Their fajitas are not served sizzling hot on a skillet like other restaurants. You get you choice of beans and tortilla(3), rice not included. The 5 shrimp were plump, however they were not spicy at all, like zero. They were served with plenty of jalapeños though so I'm assuming that's where the "spicy" comes in??? I also don't understand why leave the tails on the shrimp! As the customer, who wants to sit up there and take the tails off getting your hands all messy... ugh I digress! The beans were ok but lacked any kind of flavor. I would also suggest looking at your bill before you pay. The 1st check they gave me had the incorrect drink, she then brought me another bill but the charge showed $4 more than what was displayed on the menu. I paid it because at this point I was over it and ready to leave. I do not plan on returning.

Dennise seated us and was so kind, she even shared a few of her favorite menu items since it was our first visit. Our server Anelle was great as well. She was friendly, attentive, and helped us pick some really good dishes. We tried the Tacos Dorados de Papa, El Sampler de la Abuela, and La Bomba, and for appetizers the Burrito de Machaca con Frijoles Puercos and the sweet corn tamal (which ended up being my favorite). The food and ambiance were great, but the service from Dennise and Anelle really stood out. They made our birthday brunch feel special.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!

They have an outdoor seating area blended with indoor seating. The decor was stunning. I loved the wallpaper and light fixtures. The tunes were bumpin'. The restaurant wasn't surprisingly too busy and was pretty family-friendly. I was so excited to take a bite into my first CA tacos! As I settled in and opened the menu, full transparency: I was shocked to see the "happy hour specials: $7 tacos"... regularly $14!? Thinking these HAD to be next-level incredible, I stopped judging and ordered two "Birria" tacos, two "traditional Carnitas" tacos, and a "crispy shell Ground Beef" taco. We paired our tacos with their "Classic" house Margarita. Chips and salsa were brought to the table with our drinks, and we enjoyed those for a bit before the food came out. I wish I were writing this to report that I had the best tacos of my life, but sadly, that's not the case. The Birria taco had an excessive amount of untrimmed fat in the meat, which made each bite unpleasant and forced me to spit out pieces I couldn't chew. This made the overall texture unappealing and the experience disappointing. Not my preferred way to enjoy my tacos. I don't believe this was an issue of happy hour pricing, but rather poor food preparation. I was only able to finish one taco and took the other to-go. As for the traditional carnitas taco, it was okay but lacked anything that set it apart. I say this with kindness, but if you've had a TB crunchy taco supreme, you've tried this restaurant's crispy shell ground beef taco. The classic margaritas were strong and well made. We thoroughly enjoyed them! If you asked me, would I go back for seconds? I'd likely not reorder the tacos. For the price, I expected higher-quality preparation and presentation; instead, it fell short. Personally, I'm glad I visited during Happy Hour. I'd file this one under cool place for drinks and a light bite, if you must.
