    Milwaukee film festival

Went to the Oriental for Milwaukee Film Festival. This was a great experience. From the beautiful, historic decor, to the great sound and screen! The staff was so nice and the place is clean. Street parking a few blocks away, which was fine. Look forward to every year!

Such a beautiful venue, went there for Milwaukee film festival. Good selection of drinks, I got a fountain drink and a popcorn.

I can't get over how absolutely stunning this theater is! It is such a cool experience! The staff are friendly, the tickets are reasonably priced, you get to see unique films, the theater is gorgeous and they have excellent popcorn. Highly recommend checking it out for a date night or night out!

What a cool place! The theater is in a bustling area of Milwaukee and is intimate and unique. The atmosphere is dark and interesting, with lots of "oriental" designs which are beautiful. The accessibility is good, and the acoustics are good for someone like me who has a bit of a hearing impairment. There are plenty of spots for wheelchairs to park, and the sight lines are good from every angle. The refreshment stand has lots to offer, and the restrooms are accessible despite being in an older building. This is not your typical movie theater, and you can see arthouse films along with box office offerings. There is street parking as well as parking garages nearby, and the costs are super reasonable. Getting here is not a hard drive, and I hope to return soon.

Hadn't been to this gorgeous historic theater in decades, and I'm so glad I returned! This is a hidden gem on the east side of Milwaukee that we need to remember. Saw the premiere of Song Sung Blue and they literally rolled out the blue carpet for us! Staff was super helpful and friendly as the theater was packed! Seats are comfortable and plenty of legroom with cupholder. popcorn was fresh and tasty. It was so special. Plenty of clean restrooms too.

The Oriental is an absolute gem in Milwaukee. It is gorgeously ornate, each theater is unique and it's always a joy to watch a film there. The food/drink selection is top notch. I love this place!

First time going to this beautiful theatre. We went for the "Song Sung Blue" movie premiere. They did pretty good with the crowd management getting us in. It was assigned seating so there was no rush to find good seats, you get what you get. Concessions are reasonably priced and the popcorn was just right. Walking in it felt like an old school theater with the opulent and grand appearance. Will definitely come back for a few more shows.

Came for the documentary series festival and loved the atmosphere! It had great character on the inside of the building. I've never been to this spot and have spent very little time in this neighborhood but I loved it

Such a great place to watch a film! Great concessions, comfortable seats, and it has been beautifully renovated and restored. We found street parking nearby. Can't wait to come back!

Don't miss the unsurpassed experience of seeing classic films within a grand movie palace.

I LOVE the Oriental Theatre. Milwaukee Film has done an amazing job restoring this century old movie theater and bringing an array of films to Milwaukee that you'd think theaters with more screens would be showing. Even though there's only three screens, there's rarely an issue having independent films playing next to blockbusters. Food concessions are limited to popcorn and candy while they have a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. If you're a Milwaukee Film member, both tickets and concessions are slightly discounted, which is a nice perk.

Incredible theater! The inside is gorgeous with so much history and East Indian decor. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the drink and snack options were great. This theater is definitely a place to take friends and family and "wow" them with charm and history. A lMilwaukee landmark!

I wouldn't call myself a cinephile but I do love a good Indy movie, and Anderson films always come through with the quirky comedy and mid century aesthetic so I had to go to the Oriental for the screening of the Phoenician Scheme. This my first visit to the theatre since Landmark sold it the Milwaukee film festival. I did struggle with customer service because no one answered the phones, but other than that not much has changed, which is actually a great thing. The beauty of the building and ambiance are always an experience.

Later their "security guy" said I had to move, which was super f***** awkard because it was just me chilling there with a beer and there were like... 5 people in the in the entire bulding AND it was already 10:50. Never seen such an uptight excuse for a high end club. Guys...I appreciate the work you put into the dance floor and the renovations...but this isn't New York! It's Oakland Ave in Milwaukee next to a Gyro resturant and a Goodwill. Just beyond weird and awkward experience. I'm not gonna be back ever again.

Since the fire and the "upgrades" the Miramar has instituted a bunch of seemingly random rules that appear only to serve as a deterrent from people actually having fun and/or enjoying themselves. When the front bar is full and people have nowhere to go--why not open the second bar? Even if you don't want a server in there, at least give people a place to go. At the box office, they seem to enjoy having large queued lines and agonizingly slow service which makes the bar situation even more irritating. $5 for coat check? Ouch. And if you're going to have a VIP tier, at least make it a VIP experience and more than just a bottle of water or a seat on a platform. Lastly, have a drink price list. A vodk and redbull shouldn't be $16 which is what we were charged. 2 PBR's at $4.50 plus a vodka and redbull and the tab was $25? Even for a double, that's a ridiculous price. But the next person who ordered a double vodka redbull was charged $12. How does that work?

Run by the Colectivo crowd, it looks just like the Back Room, high ceilings adorned with metal trusses, fake and real plants, and no soundproofing. Checking in with the app the employees were super nice! Really refreshing. If you follow live music in Milwaukee you've already heard about the talking crowds and bad sightlines from the Buffalo Nickels show and a co-worker said the same about the Charlie Paar show. We were there early so got a good spot closer to the stage, but even close up the stage could stand to be higher. Luna was sounding good but the guitarist was noting a ghost in his equipment, band members seemed to be wincing from sound issues. Something for the club to figure out. Went to watch from the back and the room sound is really good. Sightlines are horrible back there, as the stage needs to be higher. The crowd was so talkative during the whole show, my friend noted people are disengaged from the bad sightlines, so that makes sense. Stand in front of the truss with the wifi device for a better engaged crowd, good sound and better sight lines. Bar offerings are good, bathrooms are clean and stylish. A solid three stars (OK) with room for improvement.

The interior decor appears to have been moved directly over from the Back Room at Collectivo, with the same ceiling treatment and plants - both real and faux. The bar is also pretty much the same, with mixed drinks, wine, beers and non alcoholic options. Seating at this show was all folding chairs, but the staff brought out more when they saw the size of the crowd in attendance. Perhaps it was our average collective age. There are a few loveseats and high stools along the right side of the room. It is not a fantastic acoustic space, with it's abundance of hard surfaces and no soft finishes, but it is intimate and allows you to get right up by the musicians. The bathrooms, at least the women's, are large with plenty of stalls and flattering lighting. This is a good replacement for the Back Room - essentially a carbon copy - but you have some chance of parking successfully over here as the street is less busy. There are also plenty of restaurants around for pre-show eats.

And so marks that time of year when all things Wisconsin are on the up and up. It's time to enjoy the warmer weather and hopefully it's dry out. I show up and it's the teachers last week with them (they assigned the teacher). Not only that, but they were about to enter a "break" and there wasn't any way to take something the next week. Not a very good first impression. I ended up giving up on a class because it was impossible to find parking. The class was right after work, and just I didn't have an extra 20-30min to spend looking for parking. Parking is the absolute biggest headache with their East Side location. I'm in a class right now that is constantly left scrounging for a room. Seriously, if you advertise a class at a certain time the room should not ever be double booked and it should not be an ongoing issue. I hate their breaks. As an adult, if I enjoy a hobby I want to continue. To have an 8 or 16 week thing and then a big break is a pain. Even worse is when the private lessons are affected by their breaks too. On the bright side of things: There are some excellent instructors teaching here. I've had good experiences with most of the classes and teachers. Most of them are at least semi pros. Compared to other classes in the area I feel you get your monies worth here (considering they are a bit more expensive than the other options this is a good thing). It's possible to try something in a class and then get really serious with it with private lessons and such.
