General Tso's Chicken and fried rice
    Bryanna J.

My partner and I live near here and have never tried it. We were craving some Chinese food and I'm glad we chose to order! We got crab rangoons, egg rolls, sezchuan chicken and general tso's chicken both with fried rice. A pretty great priced meal that was yummy! The general tso's chicken could have been a bit more tender but still yummy. The fried rice was so delicious. And my partner loved the crab rangoons. We ordered over the phone, which the woman who answered was very nice. Our food was ready in 15 minutes and was deliciously hot. We will definitely order again!

Had a taste for Chinese food and stopped in for lunch. The food was delicious and was a great value for the price. Give this place a try!

    Szechwan Chicken Lunch Special.

Though the name of this restaurant is horribly outdated, the food holds up. OT is your standard greasy spoon and will satisfy all your tasty needs. I got the lunch special which is reasonably priced for the amount of food that comes with. The portion could probably feed two adults, or one with a hearty appetite. I did the Szechwan Chicken with fried rice. It was a good protein to veggie ratio and the rice was more than enough. From a flavor standpoint, it's the typical American salty style, with strong flavors and probably too much sauce. I ate the whole thing, so that is not a criticism. The employee working was very friendly and I would come back. Note that there is currently no seating for dining right now, but there's covered up tables in the corner, so maybe one day.

One of my go to Chinese places. They are take only. Prices are average for the bountiful portions you get. The owner at the front is very nice. Ample parking to get you in/out. If you call ahead, it usually takes them about 15 mins to cook your order depending on how much you order. I recommend ordering items from the authentic Chinese dishes, bbq entrees, rice plate, and congees. I've included some pictures. A menu with this much variety, I'm sure it can get repetitive ordering the typical Americanized Chinese dishes like orange chicken, Mongolian beef, kung pao shrimp, etc. Dishes I've tried and recommend: roast pork, bbq pork, Mandarin style pork chop, stuffed tofu, seafood tofu, and any congee.

My first Chinese takeout in this area since I moved over a year ago and I was pleasantly surprised. From the two items I had, I was very satisfied with the service and food. Actually the General Tsao is one of the best I've had. I also got beef with vegetables and that was great as well. I paid about $28 and it could easily feed about 4 people.

Let me start off by saying Salt and Pepper squid ... order it. Wonton Soup beef and sprout chow fun, sweet sour chiken all very good . This is a fantastic restaurant, with some well executed traditional Chinese cuisine. Having lived on the edge of Chinatown for years and enjoying all that Chinatown has to offer this is right up there with the best of them. Not sure if they currently offer the roast duck or BBQ pork. Haven't seen it in the case. The only gripe I have is that I wish they were a little closer... Let me know what you think. Enjoy #ghostlygourmet

Pretty much as much of a hidden gem as you're going to get. There's a lot of reasons people may shy away from this place -- the outside sign is faded, the menu lacks the colorful graphics other restaurants have adopted, the restaurant doesn't look busy inside, they have only one large table, there's minimal decor, there's few Yelp ratings and pictures, and this is hidden at the very end of a strip mall, not easily visible from the road. Now, I can't speak for the Americanized Chinese options here -- but their Hong Kong Style / Cantonese dishes here are about as good as you're going to get outside of Chinatown (and actually better than a lot of Chinatown restaurants). Food comes out piping hot and in good portion sizes, and recipes have the unapologetic traditional flavors. The most important ingredient here is wok hay or umami. It's apparent in their simple but very tasty food. Here are my thoughts on the different items I tried: Chicken and black mushroom congee: Super creamy, probably the last place I would have expected to do it in this more time consuming, traditional format. There was a bit of shortcut taken with grounding the rice, but the recognition to create this texture is impressive, particularly at this price point. The black mushroom brings a nice body and earthiness to the dish while the chicken is nice and tender. Overall the flavor is very light and not salty at all, with a little touch of sesame oil tying everything together. Clams with black bean sauce: Surprisingly large portion of clam which was cooked very tender and juicy. The sauce was very tasty, almost like a mix of black bean and XO sauce and other components and was actually not too salty although it was a touch spicy. There was good umami, possibly from seared soy sauce. Hot singapore chow fun with curry: Not exactly my favorite preparation but the BBQ pork was very nice in this and the overall mix of ingredients was enjoyable. This didn't really have the same wok hay as the other dishes, depending too much on the curry for flavor. Mandarin style pork chop: Nice and crisp with fatty pork. The sauce was nice and light, not too sweet nor sour but the sweetness definitely dominated (almost like seared honey). The meat was deep fried but not overly oily. One of the best versions of this dish I've had in the suburbs. Stuffed tofu: Super soft and tender tofu which was nicely fried then braised. The shrimp patty was very flavorful and had a good "bounce" to it. Overall, a very pleasant mouthfeel. Roast pork: Marinated nicely with a crisp, although slightly tough skin. The meat was a little on the lean side though. Roast duck: Juicy and oily at the same time with the right amount of five spice powder. When served fresh, the skin is nice and crispy, similar to Peking duck. Not perfect, but one of the better preparations you'll find outside of Chinatown. Young zhou fried fried: Doesn't look pretty but this dish infused wok hay very nicely. The egg flavor is seared into the rice nicely, which surprisingly isn't that dry. The BBQ pork is nicer than normal as they make this themselves. Overall, done well as this doesn't depend on soy sauce at all for wok hay, but would've liked to see green peas, chicken, carrots, sesame oil, and other elements to really elevate this dish. Beef with bean sprout chow fun: One of the best versions I've had of this dish out in the suburbs. The chow fun is fresh and tender but pan fried to where the edges are slightly crispy. Surprisingly, it is supposed to be "gone chow" or cooked dry but the dish is surprisingly moist with the amount of bean sprout in it. Even with the infusion of a light amount of soy sauce, the noodles still remain crisp and delicious with tender beef. Highly recommended! Unfortunately, I have to let Yelpers in on this hidden gem. Other less-known restaurants that I have written extensive reviews on ended up filling up to the point where I can no longer get a table easily for myself and sometimes get so busy that quality suffers a bit. A little wait for food in the future is worth it though to inform others about the excellent Hong Kong style cuisine available in a completely unexpected location here. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for Cantonese cuisine in the Chicago suburbs.

Mediocre. Orange chicken was both stiff and rubbery. Shame since it's so close, but it never ceases to disappoint

In cases like this I would like to think that the owners would revamp the whole taste of what it use to be. Unfortunately, what should have been a special family evening turned into a disappointing and unacceptable experience. When my son and his family arrived, they were told they had to remain in the waiting area. He politely asked why they couldn't be seated inside and was told it was because their party exceeded four people. When my husband and I arrived shortly after, I asked the same question and was given the exact same explanation. However, the dining area was nearly empty -- only two couples were seated inside at the time. Shortly afterward, a larger family (five or more people) walked in and was immediately seated indoors. At that point, it was clear that the reasoning given to us was inconsistent. After I addressed the situation, another staff member stepped in, apologized, and attempted to make things right, even offering a complimentary drink. While I acknowledge that effort, the issue was not about a free drink. It was about how my family was treated from the start. The way my son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren were initially handled was unacceptable and left a lasting impression. Good food does not excuse poor or inconsistent treatment. This experience reflects a need for better communication, consistency, and customer service standards. Because of this, I will not be returning. I hope this is taken seriously so that other families do not experience the same treatment.
