I live about 1.75 hours south of Orem, where Dr. Howell is located. My son is 8 years old, and have taken him to numerous Dentists in my own area through out his life. Every Dentist in my area that has seen my son has ended up telling me, they will no longer see him, because he had such a FEAR of not only having work done on his teeth, but of Doctors in general: and they did not have the "time" to spend on my son that he required. We found Dr. Howell through a referral. The first time we saw the Dr, he had actually had his office closed for that week due to a trip that he was taking. When Dr. Howell got a call about my son and how great his fears were, Dr. Howell actually opened his office that next day just to see my son. Before leaving the office that day, Dr. Howell gave me his cell phone number, and told me to call if something were to arise between then and before he left the country. Dr. Howell is so perfect with my son, and has had an endless amount of patience with him. It has been almost 2 years that we have been seeing Dr. Howell and I will not take my son to any other Dentist. October 3, 2016 was our last appointment, and Dr. Howell has built up such a great relationship with my son, he sat in the chair for a little over 2 hours getting work done and was completely comfortable. I appreciate Dr Howell so much for the time he has spent building this trusting relationship, and for all his patience with my son. I will always make the drive up to Orem so my son can be seen by this wonderful doctor. I would recommend anyone and everyone I know and meet to take their kids up to see him. Dr. Howell and his staff are wonderful people. They take into consideration how far I have driven and always do the best they can to get everything done that is needed that day. They take the time to sit down with me as a parent and explain what all needs to be done, the prices, what my insurance will pay, and what my cost will be. Mr. Bruce Howell: A Greedy Fraud Who Betrayed My Kids When we first walked into Orem Pediatric Dentistry, Mr. Bruce Howell had us fooled. He was all smiles, sweet as hell to my family, acting like he gave a damn about my kids' teeth. It was a total farce. Behind that charm is a cold, money-obsessed asshole who'd rather screw over patients than lose a dime. Here's the truth: we were in the middle of treatment for my four kids when crap hit the fan. One needed a procedure--imaging showed a damaged tooth--but his office said we could wait for better insurance to avoid a risky fix. We said yes, thinking we were doing right by our kid. Big mistake. Dr. Howell didn't just refuse that one treatment--he dropped all my kids as patients. Two were mid-treatment, left hanging with half-assed dental work, and the others had appointments canceled without warning. His excuse? Some sanctimonious crap about being "ethically bound" to treat the tooth because the insurance company "threatened his license." BS!! This guy's not protecting his ethics--he's protecting his wallet. The second we weren't profitable enough, he dumped us like trash. TLDR: Dr. Howell and his team are exceptional in their care and expertise. Without a doubt, their pediatric dentistry is world-class. The staff were wonderful to work with. They were very welcoming and adept in understanding what kind of dental care I thought my son needed, what my priorities were for his teeth (functionality, appearance, cost, time, etc.), and how they could provide that kind of care, according to those expectations. We ended up having to schedule a root canal because of the state of my son's cavities. Leading up to the root canal appointment, I got multiple calls from Dr. Howell's assistant and the anesthesia care team, preparing me and my son for the upcoming appointment. Earlier today, the anesthesiologist & his team had no problems helping my son 'take a nap' and Dr. Howell got straight to work. There were two times when Dr. Howell paused his work and either gave me an update or asked my permission to change the plan we had agreed to before. He had originally been planning on using white filling on a tooth, but upon further inspection found it needed a crown to better protect it from future cavities. I had no reason to distrust his reasoning and trusted his expertise to do what was necessary. At the end of the procedure (an hour and a half) they brought my son out to me. He was waking up and doing really well. The staff had me wait for about 10 minutes so that he could wake up and they could make sure he was fit to leave. Dr. Howell is absolutely amazing! From the moment we walked into his office, he made both my son and me feel completely comfortable. I initially came to Dr. Howell for a second opinion after another pediatric dentist told me my three-year-old needed a filling and would have to be put under general anesthesia. I left that first office feeling scared and unsure, but thankfully, I found Dr. Howell. From our very first visit, Dr. Howell took the time to get to know us, asking questions about our family before even reviewing my son's X-rays. I truly appreciated how patient and understanding he was. He carefully listened to my concerns and provided alternative options, including using nitrous oxide instead of general anesthesia. His expertise and caring approach put my mind at ease, and I felt confident moving forward with my son's procedure under his care. Dr. Howell genuinely cares about his patients and goes the extra mile to make dental visits a positive experience. He even personally called us later that day to check on my son, which was so thoughtful. A few days later, we received a personalized letter in the mail congratulating my son on his bravery, decorated with stickers and signed by the office staff. That small gesture made his whole week! I had to take my teen daughter back a number of times to correct a root canal in which they did not get everything the first time. I was told there would not be a charge. I double checked there would not be a charge. My daughter who could drive on her own, went to her last apt w/o me and double check there would not be a charge, as they hadn't done the procedure right the first time. After her apt, my daughter left and was not given anything upon leaving the office as she was told again there would not be a charge. I also called the office before she left to confirm there would not be a charge. But, then 9 months later I received a bill (the 1st one), saying past 90 days for over $400! Upon calling the office, trying to find out what was going on, I was told that other bills had been sent (if any bills had been sent I would have immediately call), they had given me a bill when I left the office (even though I wasn't even there) and the dentist told them he had spoken to me and told me about the charges (even though I wasn't there). Dr. Howell set us up for successful breastfeeding! Our son was born with a lip tie that made him unable to latch at all. We brought him to Dr. Howell when he was 4 days old. The office was actually closed- we supposedly had a mix up on our scheduling but the receptionist and Dr. Howell were so kind enough as to help out regardless! They called in an assistant to help with the procedure and remained positive despite this being quite unexpected for them! We were previously led to believe our little guy had a tongue and cheek ties as well, but Dr. Howell was honest and open about his professional opinion and informative about the procedure, our options, and the importance of not disturbing the site afterward like many other dentists would encourage you to do. His conservative approach helped us feel in safe hands. We did the frenectomy on his lip, and immediately after he was latching perfectly! Have been feeding well ever since- he's even gained a lb and a half already and he's not even 3 weeks old yet! Dr. Howell is one of the most honest dentists I've ever dealt with! We've been coming to him for 10 years as our children's primary dental care. One of my children was born with a cleft lip and pallet, so Dr. Howell has been helping us every step of his oral care journey. He tells you upfront how he works. He isn't in the business for the money, and he tells you that straight. Dr. Howell has personally participated in every meeting for my son's treatment to input his professional opinions and advice! Aside from that, Dr. Howell sends personal notes to his patients after they've undergone an irregular treatment (deep cleaning, root canal, etc) to check on them and make sure they're doing well. I no longer live in the area but this was our regular dentist before leaving. I recommended Dr. Howell to all of my friends in the area. They all take their kids here and tell me what a great experience they have. Dr. Howell and his staff are great with kids! I have seen the great lengths Dr. Howell uses to make the dentist office a pleasant experience. From my visits, I have not met a more competent dentist. When I first brought my 18-month-old in for a visit, we had previously had difficulty getting him to floss. Orem Pediatric Dentistry is among the best dentistries I've ever found for my children. On her last visit, my 9-year-old daughter had been very fearful and pleaded not to go. My husband and I took our 3 year old to get some work done. She had to be put under anesthesia, and I cant say enough nice things about the whole staff. They were all so patient with my daughter. I bring all 5 of my kids here! They range from 2-9 years old. The staff are very friendly and always send my kids letters in the mail telling them what a good job they did. I found out that Orem Pediatric Dentistry utilizes a new technology in braces called, "Fast Braces". I saw the results and was very impressed. I would strongly recommend that parents consider Fast Braces first in as much as straightening teeth can be quicker achieving a superior result. read more
