My family is dealing with the aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk at UVU--a shooting my son witnessed. We are in the middle of extreme damage control, trying to help him to process what he's experienced and get him back to school. It's not going well. Young Family Dental called me earlier this week to set up an appointment. I said I was dealing with a lot, but they pressured me to make an appointment. I don't remember much of the previous week. When you're a mom and you get the text that your kid witnessed a shooting, everything kind of stops. This afternoon I saw a notification on my phone that I'd missed the appointment that I don't remember making. Obviously I did, but life happens. So I called right away to explain. The receptionist said, "I'm sorry that happened, but unfortunately..." So I'm being charged $50 for a missed appointment. I ended the phone call, regained my composure and called back to speak with their billing agent. After a long hold, I explained the situation. Again, "I'm sorry that happened, but there are people who could have taken the appointment..." I said that if they were actually going to go through with the charges considering the circumstances, that they should just skip the collections and take me straight to court. She said they would. It's sad, because I've had consistently good dental care at Young Family Dental. They just don't seem all that concerned with families. So yeah. How's that for a white smile? The service was not personable; the hygienist didn't ask anything about me, my dental background, or any concerns I had. It felt like a fast food restaurant where they got me in, did their job, and rushed me out. They also told my husband that he had really severe gun disease (which was not accurate) and it wasn't safe to do a cleaning. When we wanted to look at their dental records and notes for his appointment, it took 6 months for them to fulfill his request of getting a copy of his chart. We will never go here again and would never recommend it to anyone. read more

I really dislike needing to write bad reviews, but this was just absurd. I went in for a cleaning and was told that I have a ton of cavities and need all my wisdom teeth removed (no dentist has ever told me that). Only 6 months ago I had gone to a different dentist who told me I had none. To have developed all these cavities in only 6 months seemed impossible. After Dr. Young told me how many cavities I had, I told him to put everything in writing because I was going to get a second opinion. Then, he got hesitant and began backpedaling about what needed to be treated and what didn't. I simply told him to put everything in writing. I call a different dentist, explain the situation and ask for an appointment for a second opinion. The other dentist's office asks me who I saw for my cleaning. I didn't give them a name, but all the sudden the person on the phone asks "Was it Young Family Dental?" My jaw dropped! Other dentists in the valley know that these guys try to rip people off. Sad. Very sad. That these guys are willing to do irreparable damage to other people to make a profit is awful. read more

Orem Location: I'm a new patient and went to Young Family Dental without looking at Yelp reviews first. If I had, I would've stayed away. I was very confused to see so many negative reviews, because I had a GREAT experience!! Dr. Park was kind, gentle, and efficient. Yesenia & Liz were helpful, patient, and answered all of the questions I had. My cleaning went smoothly and then I came back the next day for two cavity fillings. I'm cavity-prone, so this procedure was very familiar to me. I was in-and-out in one hour, total. Then, the next morning, Liz called to see how I was feeling. I've been seeing the same dentist for the last 33 years in Las Vegas, and they NEVER called to see how I was feeling after a procedure! I was so pleasantly surprised. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Young Family Dental due to extreme pain I was having in the right side of my mouth. It literally came out of nowhere over the weekend! When I came in for the appointment, I was expecting a very friendly staff just because of the great reviews I had heard from this place. I did not receive any positive or said friendly service! The front office receptionist was not very friendly. She didn't even smile or say hello. All she did was ask my name, and proceeded to hand me a stack of paperwork and said to fill them out. My scheduled appointment was at 11:30. I did not meet the actual dentist until 2:30. As I was waiting, I overheard a lot of office gossip--including discussion over "troublesome patients" that the dental assistants had the gall to talk about. I am not lying when I say that I overheard one of the dental assistants say to another dental assistant that one patient . . . "was a pain in the ass, she wouldn't stop squirming around because she complained that she was in a lot of pain. I had to X-ray her teeth twice because she was so difficult." Once the dentist came in. He told me to open my mouth. After looking, he told me that I needed my wisdom teeth taken out TODAY. There was no explanation of why I needed them out-- I questioned why that was and was told once again that they HAD to be taken out and that was the end of discussion. Then as the dentist was walking out, he told me that it was my fault that I was in so much pain and I should have come sooner. The whole reason why I didn't "come in sooner" was because this occurred over the weekend and I had no pain earlier in the week. It was unexpected and not something I had been procrastinating. I walked out feeling ashamed and horrified because of the service here. I will NOT be recommending this place to friends and family. read more

Do not go here! My my wife went here they said she has eleven cavities. She fixed one then told me she will not go here again. I thought she was exaggerating. She went to another dentist they said she doesn't have any cavities just few stains. Bu I went there anyway. They ruined my two teeth. Now I have to place crowns on them. Gave me three shots to numb my gums and two of the shots came out of my nose while injecting it. Horrible experience. Shaved off my canine tooth - I asked why they did that? Wow. It's been just over 24 hours and I still feel the creeps after my visit here. I scheduled a new patient exam and cleaning for their $65 special. They got me in the next day. After X-rays, the dentist came in and checked my mouth and said it was healthy with no issues. Then the hygienist came back. I sat back waiting for a cleaning, but she said I needed to do a "deep" cleaning because of gum recession, and that it needed some special scheduling. I asked if I couldn't just get a normal cleaning and think about a deeper one for the future. She said that no, it was too dangerous. She said that they legally couldn't do a cleaning because (and then she struggled for words) of the possibility of spreading plaque and causing an infection. She quoted some prices and refused once again to do a cleaning. She escorted me to the front desk and exchanged some glances with the receptionist and said I would need a deeper series of cleanings. The receptionist filled out a sheet detailing a deep cleaning and debridement to the tune of $800. I left and quickly called another dentist who got me in today. They also did X-rays. The dentist said my mouth was healthy, and I got a cleaning. I asked the hygienist detailed questions about my gums, etc, and she said everything was healthy. No pockets or traveling plaque or infection or any hint of needing anything "deeper". What a worry it was for the 24 hours I had to wonder what on earth could've been so suddenly unhealthy about my mouth that it couldn't even be "legally" cleaned. I arrived at young family dental, and was treated like a burden by all the staff. Once in the chair, some dental assistant came in and pretends to turn up the gas...(which he absolutely did not)...he shot up both sides, very painfull, the most of painfull. Then, the Dr, who never addressed me directly, and who's face I did not see, began removing a tooth on the right top. That was it, and my entire mouth was full of nova cane, unnecessarily...then I was scheduled to have 2 root canals and 8 cavities. After the brutality of the 8 cavities, I went to a new office. Visited Young Family Dental after moving to Orem because they were close and accepted my insurance. I had never really had a bad experience with a dentist before, so I believed them when they told me I had two cavities that needed filled despite never having had heard anything about any cavities in my 30+ years of regularly going to the dentist. I had my cavities filled and then recommended that my wife go in for a cleaning. She was told she had 16 cavities that needed filled! We decided a second opinion was needed and my wife scheduled an appointment with another office in the area that told her she had ZERO cavities. She has since visited 2-3 more dental offices for regular cleanings and none of them have ever mentioned a single cavity! I now have a hard time trusting dentists and experience anxiety before any visit to any dental office. I'm wondering if my "cavities" were even real. If you want to avoid unnecessary money grabs and insurance fraud, please stay away from Young Family Dental! read more

Got all the work done we needed and after they checked with my insurance there was a zero balance after paying them over $1k. They checked with my insurance company! Then a month later I get a bill for nearly $200 and after spending time with my insurance company on the phone going through all the charges, I only owed $30 after all said and done. I called the dentist office and explained and went through all the charges one by one and the girl I talked to didn't know how to do math and said she'd give my account to a higher up to try to compute. Didn't hear a word for over a month and they start calling my kid harassing him for money. He only had to pay under a $100 but still...I will never go back. Most of the dental work was for him so he is okay with paying it. Incompetent billing office and customer service. Everything else was fine though. read more

STAY AWAY! I went in with a groupon for a cleaning and exam, and came out of the appointment being told I had four cavities, one of which, and I quote, required "immediate attention". Their estimate to treat and fill all four cavities came to around $600! After going to my trusted family dentist family a month later to get these supposed cavities filled, I was told I didn't have a SINGLE CAVITY and there wasn't even any sign of one. Young family dental lied to me about the condition of my teeth and tried to take hundreds of dollars from me, in the middle of a global pandemic no less. I considered using this office since they are relatively close to my home. However, I never visit a healthcare provider without investigating the license status of their staff. Use your preferred search engine to look up: - "In the Matter of the Licenses of Jared Wynn Hemmert to Practice as a Dentist and Administer and Prescribe Controlled Substances in the State of Utah", Stipulation and Order, Case No. DOPL 2013-3/5. Or just Google "Jared Wynn Hemmert" + PDF, only a handful of documents come up. You'll find it. Read the document, then ask yourself very carefully if you'd trust a dental office that employed someone like Dr. Hemmert. The fact that he still has a professional license is shocking. I question the judgment of anyone who would hire Hemmert to care for patients or work alongside him. read more

Update , I returned to the clinic and they made the ringtone by redoing the fillings, they made no apologies but at least they did the work. Generally the bed side manner could use help. DENTAL NIGHTMARE Dr Young was the worst dentist I've had so far in all the valley. I had to get silver fillings but to my knowledge was unaware that he was in a really bad mood when we started my procedure. He was struggling at first to get the fillings all perfect and then suddenly dropped everything abruptly and went to his office. The assistant apologized for him but after 20 mins of sitting with my mouth numb and all bloody he comes in to finally finish still angry. I went to another dental office at UVU to check if my silver fillings were okay and it turns out the silver fillings were done poorly. I'm in constant pain because the silver fillings are scratching the left side of my bottom tongue. Thanks doctor young. read more

After three years of seeing them, I have determined that this office is sketchy, inconsistent, unethical, and honestly, they lied multiple times. I do not recommend. First, off interpersonally they are great. They are kind, friendly, and chatty. I love the personnel I worked with. I do not love they business practices. -They overcharged, didn't tell me and were illegally holding on to a credit that I did not approve. Had I not come back for another appointment I fear they would have kept the money indefinitely. -Before the Dr. looked at my teeth or had even appeared to have seen my chart he led with, "Well, you aren't a good flosser are you?". Umm no. Is this a line? I floss every day. I felt like this is something he leads with. He had never seen me before and I had not even opened my mouth. -Despite all of this if the Dr. would have said: "You have three cavities let's get them filled this week", I would have said, "Great! Let's do it". But that's not what happened. I felt like I was being sold to. And the more he talked about my teeth the more I felt like maybe getting these cavities wasn't medically necessary- maybe there was grey area and he was trying to push me to get them done. Otherwise why word vomit on me when I didn't ask to know the anatomy of a tooth? -They told me I had insurance and I didn't. They told me they had checked that morning and reference the date and said I was insured. I WAS NOT. I had them triple check and made a few of my own phone calls. Turns out- I was NOT. During this same appointment, they wanted me to get a full mouth xray that was really expensive. I can think of a more unethical thing to do. They independently, without being asked, "confirmed" insurance that didn't exist. Are they trying to give customers FALSE information so they get more services done? -On my first visit they told me I needed Xrays that I didn't need. I had to pay out of pocket because I had had Xrays 6 months previously. Then later on they wanted me to do a fancy Xray, told me I was insured and that it'd be covered. But I was not insured (see above). -When I switched dentists, not because of anything they had done but just for scheduling preferences/I moved they told my new office that I had to PAY 25 dollars, come IN PERSON (when they knew I moved), to consent to give the new office Xrays. Then I called back a month later and they handed over my xrays no problem, no fee, no fuss. Apparently when my new doctor first called they asked for my name and were weird about it and then said all that stuff about charging money and signing a paper. My new Dr's office said that it was a really weird phone call and she was suspicious something was up before I had said anything negative about my experience. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

This place varies by location and dentist (I've been to several) Some are friendly, other seem demanding and in a hurry. They work fast but at Saratoga Springs I've had to go back for redo on a couple of occasions - it happens. My last trip to the Orem office, the woman doctor was in a hurry. If I closed my mouth to swallow she would repeat "open, open" until I reopened. She was a little rough and squashed my glasses against my face a few times. I always make sure they get the new tooth/crown to fit perfectly, which requires patience on my part to keep saying "not quite ". In the end, the job was well done. To their credit, they did not engage in the old "you need a $4000 treatment plan" scam that other dentists in Utah valley are resorting to. Check the reviews for each location. They vary. read more

Update: 4 months after the deep cleaning they sent me a random bill asking for $20 more for X rays that should have been included in the free exam. I called an threatened to sue them and then they said they would waive the $20 if i remove the bad review on Google that I posted 4 months ago. I took it off so that they would take away this unjustified charge. Instead, I'm pasting the google review here below: Even though their rating here in Google is good, check on yelp for a more truthful (low) rating. Scroll down to "not currently recommended" section, you'll see even more low-rating customer feedback. -my first visit- The dentist failed to find a problematic filling. So I was once told by another dentist (unrelated to Young Family dental) that a dental filling showed signs that it would come off some time in the future, but back then I didn't fix it. I waited for a few months and then went to Young Family dental, hoping that they would tell me which exact tooth I need work done and I'll get it fixed. The dentist didn't find anything and said it was fine. Instead, the hygienist insisted that I need to get a $80 deep cleaning that's not covered by insurance. I got it, but now I regret getting it because i didn't really need it. The main problem: My filling DID come off a few weeks after I got that dental exam at Young Family Dental. How come another dentist could notice the problem 4 months before the problem happens and Young Family Dental couldn't find it 1 month before the problem happens? -my second visit intending to fix the filling- I had a rude receptionist. I called and requested that I not be charged a fee for missing an upcoming appointment due to the heavy snow (school districts were closed) but the receptionist said I'll still be charged because it's their policy. She then said she'd have her manager call me back, and she HANGED UP on me. The manager never actually called me back. read more

I moved here from Indiana and have always gone to the same dentist since I was young so going somewhere new was somewhat frightening, but I have had such a great experience here! I got a root canal done here and it has gone so smoothly plus the pricing has been so affordable and the timing was impeccable they got me in and out no sitting for hours waiting. I went here for a regular cleaning just under a year ago (11 months to be exact) and honestly I don't go to the dentist often but my dental health is in perfect condition for the most part. So I get my X-rays done and the doctor and assistant tell me I have 6 (SIX) cavities and that they have to drill my teeth and charge me almost $1000 for all of this. I realized in that moment something was funny and didn't feel right. Being ignorant and shocked in the moment I end up scheduling an appointment with them to fill these so called cavities. When I got home I immediately scheduled an appointment with another dentist to get a second opinion because the evaluation I got was still not sitting right with me. So I get to this second dentist and get my X-rays and he pokes around my mouth a bit, then he tells me no, I have zero cavities, the enamel is strong. My teeth are just sensitive (due to braces treatment, I already knew this and was using sensodyne). Fast forward almost a year and my teeth are fine and nothing has begun to rot or give me any problems ; ). If I could give these guys -5 stars I would. I'd give zero stars if I could. They want to charge me $700 to fix a problem they caused by putting an incorrectly fitting crown on a broken tooth that should have had a root canal but didn't and is now infected. And they want to redo three of the fillings that they've done in the last year, which my insurance won't cover because it's too soon. I miraculously have new cavities every time I go in, despite the fact that I went nine years without dental insurance and in that time only developed a handful of cavities. On top of that, I have a sharp filling that cuts the floss every time I pass over that tooth, and they say there's nothing wrong with it, even though I can feel it sticking out with my fingernail. I have pus coming out of my gums, my whole jaw hurts, and I have to wait for yet another visit to get the root canal. I've already been in to see them at least seven times to get this tooth fixed, and it's still infected. And they want to charge me for a third crown, after the first one was placed incorrectly (wrong size, huge gap between the crown and my gum, constant infections, also placed too high so my bite was off), and they'll need to remove the replacement to do the root canal. I don't even want these people to do my root canal but I'm stuck because they're about the only ones in the area that take my insurance. I feel like they're frauds and scammers and have been dragging out my suffering for their financial gain. read more

The Young Family Dental Practice in American Fork, Utah, has helped me to regain a healthy mouth once again! I'm disabled and therefore have to take a lot of medicine, which are reeking havoc on my poor teeth. With each visit my teeth are looking better and better, and I'm starting to smile again! Dr. Young didn't bother to introduce himself! I had to ask him who he was. He didn't even know i was a first time patient, he said "oh is this your first time here?" nothing else then began drilling when he cut my tooth in half i was in so much pain i was crying on the table.
