North Marion School Dist No 15 - My daughter with her astronomy project

I am deeply concerned with the ongoing failure of leadership and accountability within this school…read moredistrict. After multiple superintendent transitions, there has been no clear improvement in direction, transparency, or outcomes for students. More troubling are repeated concerns from families regarding: Failure to consistently follow IEPs, which is not just unacceptable--it puts the district at risk of violating federal law and failing the students who need support the most Lack of oversight and accountability in athletic and youth programs, leading to disorganization, poor communication, and missed opportunities for student development Breakdowns in communication with parents, where concerns are minimized or not addressed in a timely and meaningful way Serious concerns about student safety and supervision, which must be treated as a top priority at all times At a minimum, families deserve transparency, consistency, and a district that follows through on its legal and ethical responsibilities. Right now, many parents do not feel confident that those expectations are being met. This is not about isolated incidents--it reflects a broader pattern that needs immediate attention. I urge the school board to: Conduct an independent review of IEP compliance and student support services Improve oversight and structure within athletic and extracurricular programs Establish clear communication channels and accountability measures for addressing parent concerns Provide transparency around how leadership decisions are being made and evaluated Every student deserves a safe, structured, and supportive environment. Until meaningful changes are made, families will continue to question whether this district is meeting that standard and they are leaving this district at high levels for better opportunities for their children.

This is just a great school, with a great staff. My daughter is a student here in 1st grade, and…read moreshe has learned so much in Mrs Giles' class. The staff has been great in their communication to me, and they are very tech savvy as well (email updates, smart phone apps for tracking student performance and picture updates). You wouldn't think a small town school would be that on top of things, but the big city schools could take lessons from North Marion...

It's okay. Curriculum is good, but not all teachers are very nice. Most teachers are great! But the…read morerules are not enforced equally throughout the students. Males are usually treated with more lax standards along with shorter, less developed girls. Some people are very quick to make assumptions about students based on overall airs. I was on financial support, but tuition is pretty expensive. Not many students. Some of the students that grew up in a wealthy loving family can be very inconsiderate with words. Dress code is strict. Dress code enforcer has tried to tell me where MY mid thigh was. Also the dress code does not provide much room for religious wear. Hijabs and headwear are allowed, but certain holidays might include certain attire. It can be a challenging place for students with Social Anxiety on multiple different fronts. There is no special needs program to my knowledge. I personally think that this school is a bit too sensitive, but that comes from a middle class public school person until I got here recently. The school is pretty academically supportive to those who don't require help, but it skips a year of material. I was scared to say this till now but it was also pretty terrifying the whole time. And exhausting. Mental health is taken care of by most of the teachers that are trying to get their own job done. Kids have said slurs, done VERY inappropriate things and made noises to others, and it's never taken care of. It always kept happening. Bullying was not addressed. Most people are obsessed with putting labels on you. And people wouldn't listen to me. It was actually pretty deteriorating. And I had already went into this school with crippling depression. My only friends at the school were much more support than the mental health support system or whatever thing they had set up at the time. And nobody knows boundaries. I'm sorry. I hope its changed now.

We have had a student at Ashbrook for over five years now and have found the school to be attentive…read moreto our concerns when on occasion they arise. They have good foundational philosophy about how our children can be raised to have good character and be good citizens. They allow students who want to excel to do so, while if there is any hiccup, teachers work with staff and parents to find a good solution to get the student to back up to par. We find Ashbrook to be the best option in the area.
