Naturally our son fell behind in online learning for kindergarten. We sent him to a program and my wife did online learning through the public school. For obvious reasons his skills are below expectations. We attempted to enroll him in a private school but were notified he was below expectations. We enrolled him in Stayton Elementary School where he was accepted into a summer school program to better prepare him for kindergarten. On the fourth day we received a phone call advising we remove him from summer school because they aren't properly staffed for his behavior. My son is behind and it appears nobody cares about his success. As a parent I can't begin to express my frustration and disbelief. The administration at this school should be ashamed of their lack of problem solving and effort. Is that how we treat children, we just dismiss them and give up? I understand my son isn't perfect. But he deserves an education and a valiant effort. To write a kid off after four measly days is pathetic and unacceptable. I have no faith in this school district or the so called leadership guiding it. Everyone behind this decision should do some serious reflection and soul searching. Oregon says "no child left behind". That is bogus because I can show you a child the system gave up on before he ever had a chance. I had a teacher who placed my desk in the back of the classroom and put a chalkboard in front of me. I was optimistic that my child would have a better experience than I. Obviously I was wrong here. You can believe I will vote against any ballot measure that pertains to funding Stayton public schools.
