I was in town for a few days and wanted to book a ride before I even arrived to town. I called a few times with no answer, the voicemail said to send a text and not leave a voicemail so I did just that and received zero answer back whatsoever. I have all the info they asked for and dates that I was available. I received literally nothing back. I would've been okay with a "hey sorry we don't have any available spots" and that would've been fine. I even went down there a few times to try and schedule a ride and no one was ever there to talk to. Not very professional. read more

We were given a 2 hour ride as a gift. The park is a bit out of the way so allow yourself plenty of time to get there just in case of trouble on 101. The horses are incredibly gentle, well trained, and cared for. The beach ride is beautiful and goes through several different terrains. Not just along the beach. We returned along the bay side. Making reservations took some perseverance. Highly recommend this enjoyable ride. read more

Let me start by saying the horses were well trained and mild mannered, the ride to the beach was beautiful (but felt shorter than the hour we'd paid for-I didn't track the time so I'm not certain), and our guide Justin was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the horses and the area. Beyond that, I have nothing good to say. I read the reviews of other people saying that the owner woman was rude and I just thought they were disgruntled or overreacting. Unfortunately, the reviews were an incredibly accurate depiction of what I would come to experience as well. We drove several hours to get to OBR and took a wrong turn which delayed our travels. I messaged the reservation number at 10:45 (our reservations were at 11:30) and said " Running a little behind ... I think we'll be there *right at 11:30" to let her know we would not be able to make the 10-15 min early request. I understand this is a bit of an inconvenience so I gave as much warning as possible. We arrived AT our reservation time and had to use the restroom since we'd just driven several hours. When we arrived to check in after the restroom, it was 11:35. Again, I understand when someone is late it makes the rest of the day run behind and we apologized for being late. We were instructed "go in the booth, read through the forms, sign page 8". We hurried inside and started on paperwork. My mom started one page for herself and another for my niece. The woman, who I'm assuming after ready other reviews was Judy, came in and said, "you'll be two on the same." My mom, confused said "I've got one for myself and one for her" (pointing at my niece.) Judy LITERALLY ripped the one with my niece's name on it out from under my mom's hand, crumbled it up and barked "YOU'RE NOT LISTENING! Your info goes here, you sign, and her name goes at the bottom." My mom, not wanting to be confrontational said "okay, I misunderstood, I can't read this well, I didn't bring my glasses" to which Judy snarked "well obviously." This incredibly rude tone continued as she 'helped' my mom finish the paperwork. Judy told my niece to select a helmet for the ride to which my niece replied, "ahh do I have to?" Judy AGAIN replied with a snarky remark, "no you don't have to wear one, that just means you won't ride!" A simple, "yes you need to wear a helmet to ride" would have been sufficient. Judy also slipped in a frustrated "you guys totally missed the instruction time" which I understand is frustrating for the business BUT, as mentioned earlier, I gave her nearly an hour heads up that we'd be arriving past the instruction time. I could not believe how disrespectful, condescending, and blatantly rude she was to my niece, my mother, and me. It took everything in my to bite my tongue because I felt if I asked why she was being rude to us we would have been turned away and the deposits were non refundable and I'd just driven 5 hours so being turned away simply wasn't an option. I will not be returning to OBR for the simple fact that I do not appreciate the way we were treated, ESPECIALLY after paying hundreds of dollars. Judy was rude and lacks basic customer service skills and has no respect others. Maybe nobody ever told her to "treat others the way you wish to be treated," how unfortunate. read more

We tried to reserve a horse for my daughter to ride on her 10th birthday. We were told they don't accommodate disabled people -my daughter is mentally disabled, but not medically fragile and has experience riding. They would not allow an adult to walk beside her. That's discrimination. This is my daughter 4 years ago on a horse. Horses are wonderful and even therapeutic. My daughter is lovely, she would only need to feel secure, much like most children. It's a shame they've denied her a beach riding experience on her birthday. read more

3rd year in a row, my daughter and I have loved riding with these folks. Judy is always kind and Justin, who usually leads the rides is a relaxed and funny guy. For an hour long beach ride, you're fitted with a horse, helmet and instructions for riding. Doesn't matter if you have experience or not. It's an easy trail through the trees, the dunes and then out onto a breathtaking beach. They guide all the horses to a stop for a photo op. Make sure to bring a camera. Justin or Judy will take your photos. Great experience every time. We loved our horse beach ride. The owners are very family oriented kind people. I wanted to do my wedding save the date pictures on the beach with a horse. And this was the perfect setting. Not only did we get to ride the horses, but we got some pictures taken by our guide. He took his time and was patient with us . The horse were gentle and clean too. Great experience for our son's first time on a horse by himself. The staff were very nice and horses were very docile. The ride on the beach was pleasant and enjoyable. They did not skimp on the time on the horses. It took a while for our group to get mounted up, but they still gave us the full hour on the horses from when we started out. Be aware that you need more time to make the drive than is recommended on their website directions. Also be aware that they only accept credit cards with an extra charge. They also don't let you trot on the horses, which was surprising to me, as I've always been able to trot at least a little on all the other trail rides I've done. Just returned from a beautiful stunning beach ride with my 9 & 12 year olds this morning. After a short dune ride through to the beach the horses walked along the beach for a long ways out where the guides will take your photo if you bring a camera or phone. The horses seemed well cared for & healthy. The cost of the ride was much less than another place we considered. I would definitely recommend Oregon Beach Rides to others interested in horseback rides along the Oregon coast. read more

Great activity for the novice. All 3 of us were first time riders (or at least hadn't been on a horse in 20 years). The 1 hour length was just right to have a good time, but not be too sore from an activity our muscles weren't used too. Our guide was friendly and helpful. This was absolute heaven. First, after setting up a time for Monday at 2:00, then me writing our appointment down as Tuesday at 2:00, they were wonderful. They could have kept our deposit and been done with us, but they let us have the open appointment for the next day. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The ride and view were amazing. The dunes were stunning by themselves, but when we crested the dunes down to the beach...beautiful. There were maybe 2 or 3 families on the entire beach. Great pictures, awesome experience. My daughter and I had a great time together doing this! I was able to book on the day I called for later in the afternoon. I have experience but my daughter did not. For the little kids they get a smaller horse and then one of the guides holds the lead so they will be with them the entire ride. Your horse will be following in a line so no free riding or galloping around on your own. It was just magical with the horses on the beach. They are very well trained and taken care of. I felt safe on the horse I was on. You do get bring your cell phone and take pictures and videos but NO SELFIE STICK. Please be careful when you hold your phone cause it is a bumpy ride and you can easily drop your phone. Also be aware of your horse and where you are going. I was able to capture a few photos and beautiful moments with my phone. There is also a nice spot where they stop everyone and will take plenty of pictures of you on your horse with the ocean in the background. I felt like an hour ride was way more than enough. My butt and knees couldn't wait to get off. The guides there were very knowledgable and kind to us. It was a real great time and worth the price. read more

Riding a horse is one of the few primal things we can do these days. I look forward to our regular visits to Oregon Beach Rides. My favorite part of the ride is when we get to go through the dunes. I lose sight of civilization and can imagine myself on a quest in a different time. It is a great escape. The lady who answered the phone was a complete jerk. I was really nice and had questions for her. She was not accommodating, she didn't like to answer my questions that anyone who is looking to rent a horse would ask. She then told me I should buy a horse of my own, and insinuated I knew nothing about horses when I've been with them since I was 5 years old. She continued to be rude to me, when I stayed nice and calm and tried to explain to her my own horse had passed away in 2008, and I was just looking to rekindle the wonderful feeling of freely riding a horse on the beach, she then coldly hung up on me. This business false advertises. On the web site it says they are willing to accommodate, and it also gives an option for a walk, trot, canter session, which she says they don't do anymore. She says they do not canter anymore and enforce trot and walk only, (I am not nor will I ever ride a horse into the ground, but a few moments of cantering is not going to harm a horse) but they want to charge a vast amount of cash to ride. more so than any of the other places. Don't bother renting from them, they are know it all jerks. I also asked if there where any other horse rentals in the area and she said they where the only one. When in fact there is also a couple more such as Green Acres and Ocean Trails. So they are also liars. Who knows what else they are lying about. Deceitful and rude. read more

Justin and his mom do a great job of taking first time riders for a safe, but fun ride. The horses were great, the ride was just right. I think that doing any kind of horse riding business you do for the love of horses, and it shows with them. Justin really luvs his horses. I was extremely disappointed when my daughter was bucked off her horse. Justin proceeded to yell at her. He did not even check to see if she was okay. Then when my sister turned around to check on her Justin yelled at my sister and told her to "MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!" Then another horse reared up. The young man riding (with no experience) was yelled at and told to remember his instructions (in which there were none regarding a fussy horse). When leaving the ride, my daughter was in tears and could not get off her horse fast enough. Justin never apologized or talked with her. Being bucked off is scary but it happens with horses they are animals. However, Justin's behavior was inexcusable. Instead of wonderful memories from the beautiful beach with her family my daughter will only remember the unkind reaction by the "professional" outfitter. At the end of the ride the guide actually said.."I hope you APPRECIATED the ride". The scenery is stunning. However, I do not recommend taking this trip with this outfit, use another company. read more

This is my second attempt at a review. The first one was marked "inappropriate" because I did not leave sufficient first hand experience. The first review I left said "In one word, disappointed." So, I'll explain more. We rode on a two hour ride mid summer this year. The horses were tired and worn out. While the woman who checked us in was pleasant and one of the guides was outstanding, two of the guides were just as tired and worn out as the horses. The one woman in particular yelled at a young adult many times instead of helping her. One of the guides also yelled at my daughter who is just learning to ride, instead of explaining what he wanted to her. When we were getting on our horses I explained to them that my daughter had a difficult time on her last ride holding the horse back towards the end of the ride, it was extremely anxious to get back. I asked if she could go lead line if necessary. I don't remember getting an answer to the lead line question but they assured me there would not be a problem. They also chaulked up the issue of not being able to hold the horse back on the acitvity on the beach, not the horse she was riding or her strength. Their instruction for riding consisted of the worn out woman riding back and forth with her spirited horse explaining so no one could hear in a quiet voice what she expected of everyone. Some people on the ride had never even ridden before. After they put us on the horses they asked about our riding abilities, not beforehand. All in all, the ride left two people in tears and one frustrated customer. We will never again use this service. There are many more oregon beach rides along the coat, three of which we used while on this trip, all significanty less expensive and we were all VERY satisfied! Don't waste your money on Oregon Beach Rides in Nehalem State Park, Oregon. We were treated rudely by Judy, the business owner, and her bad attitude spoiled the experience. She gave my niece a lame and arthritic horse who was in such pain that he had to keep stopping. When I mentioned this to Judy before the ride began she just brushed it off and started riding. One reason I chose this company was that they stated they would take photographs of the riders on the beach -- well, not really. They did not have a camera with them! They borrowed my granddaughter's cell phone to take photos and took them from so far away they were extremely blurry and all had to be deleted. There are many other better stables you can choose to ride with where you will be treated with kindness and respect. Judy did not even give us a thank you or a goodbye when the ride was over.
