    1 hour morning horseback ride
    Kim D.

Fun little nose-to-tail ride that is easy for beginners. Our guide gave us good instructions and the horses were mostly well behaved. A couple of the mares were a little spicy on the way back because they all wanted to be first in line to get home and have treats. Experienced and new riders will both find this an enjoyable walk along the beach. We did the 10am ride, which meant the beach was nice and quiet. The horses were well tempered when we walked past heavy construction equipment in order to reach the beach. We rode right up to the water's edge. All of our kids (15, 9, & 7) thought this was the most memorable experience we had in Long Beach. I definitely recommend!

During spring break the kids and I decided to try Long Beach Horse Rides. First time riding for the kids and it was set up to go as smooth as possible. Took away my concerns immediately. Some guy thought starting a chainsaw on the beach as we rode by was a great idea but the staff was ready and the horses did great. Overall we really enjoyed the experience and hope to do it again!

Fun experience. We had ours scheduled on a Friday afternoon and received a call from them couple hrs before saying due to high winds, they have to reschedule us to the next morning. I told them since we came from Seattle mainly for this experience so if the wind is still strong the next day, my kiddos would be so disappointed. Since I stayed at Adrift, I decided to walk over and talk to them. The owner kindly offered horse riding on their ranch just for fun them proceed with next morning ride. The kiddos were so happy. Their horses are beautiful and tamed.

My boyfriend and I were in town for the weekend and we wanted to go for a nice horse ride! This place is awesome! Brian and Alex were great guides and super nice! We had a group of 16 people on our ride and it was so much fun! We rode on the trails, through sand and onto the beach! It was a great hour ride! The horses were absolutely beautiful and well trained. Super easygoing process and wonderful people!

I've been coming to ride at Long Beach horse rides since they have been owned by the same family and family and now a new owner for over 25 years. The wranglers are always incredibly friendly, informative and the horses are gentle or frisky depending on what you want.. very well cared for. 5 stars always!

First time taking my daughter horse back riding! Everyone was very courteous and helpful and knowledgeable. The wrangler even took pictures of the whole group and air dropped them to our phones when the ride was over! A very fun and memorable first ride!

I loved riding here! Our guide was friendly, funny, and very relaxed. She even let us trot on the beach if we wanted to, which unfortunately is not something every horse guide lets you do. The horses here are also more upbeat and healthier looking than horses I have seen at other riding places. You can definitely tell these horses love their job (: My family showed up minutes before a ride not knowing you need to make reservations. However, the gal at the front was super accommodating and let us join the ride when a family did not show up (yay, lol!). You do need cash to pay by the way.

Great company! It has become our tradition every time we are in Long Beach. We always felt safe riding their horses. My seven year old daughter absolutely loves rides. Definitely recommend this company!

Orderly leaving the corral for our single file walk through the dune grass trails to the beach.

Nice behaved horses that are well kept. Great friendly wranglers that ensured everyone was having a good time & that the horses assigned were matching well with the rider. On our 1 hour ride there were a couple brothers 6 & 8 who were riding solo for their first horse ride & the wranglers really matched the boys with mellow horses. So pretty riding on the open beach! The hour went by quickly but it was well worth the $30 fee! Don't forget to tip your wranglers

Our family had so much fun riding the horses yesterday that the kids insisted on coming back today and spending their own money for another ride! Bryan, Corey and the other gentleman were so nice and helpful. This will definitely be on our list to do if we ever return to Long Beach. The weather was pretty cold and a bit rainy but it was easy to forget that when you're having fun!

I love this place. What a great experience. The girls who rode with us were fantastic. I felt like I was riding with a group of friends. My wife and I really enjoyed our ride. Beautiful horses, very relaxing beach ride. Will do this again for sure!

This place is pure magic. The magic is not produced by a wand, but by people--good people. Okay,…read moreand ponies and puppies. But mostly by people. There was some brief confusion when I booked the reservation. I had not realized it was a "horse hotel" with multiple stalls and also campsites as well as rooms. My disappointment was replaced by pure joy upon learning that humans can stay here too, as well as hybridized beings like myself (a centaur)! Everything here is done the old fashioned way, the right way: with kindness, trust, love and simplicity. Staying here will make your heart ache for a simpler time when folks were able to conduct business with a handshake, where their first priority was just treating each other how they want to be treated themselves, with dignity and decency. We came here almost my accident. I'll be honest. Ocean Acres was not in my first, second--or even top five--picks of places to go. We were aiming at much further up the coast. I could find almost nothing and what I could find was neither affordable nor desirable. We did not want to go to some sterile resort where you exist to be milked and sent on your way. We wanted to be in a place that was family-owned and served a purpose beyond just making money as efficiently as possible. We wanted to be somewhere that had actual personality, not just a hollow façade with a minimal, lazy attempt to lure visitors and nothing else. Ocean Acres Horse Hotel was--is--the jackpot on all accounts. Because of a recent death of a family member after a prolonged illness, it was important to be in a place with healing energy. I had a good feeling the moment I navigated my way to Ocean Acres' minimalist website and saw they have no automated process for automated or online bookings. Everything is done personally, over the phone. The owner, Carol did not even ask for my last name, the make of my vehicle or a credit card to reserve the room. She asked us to pay in cash when we arrived. When we did arrive, the first thing I did was try to pay, but she insisted we wait until morning to do so! She wanted us to be able to settle in, relax, and get a good night's sleep first. WHAT?! My thought was: who the hell are you and what time period do you hail from? Where is your time machine? Such a small gesture, but to be endowed with that level of trust by a stranger doing business with me...I cannot think of another time in my 46 years that that's happened. Again, you may think I am making too much of it, but being shown such trust and kindness so quickly had an immediate healing effect on us. It is impossible to discuss Ocean Acres without talking about Carol and her husband, the owners. I don't know how they do it. I could barely keep up with all the adventures they shared with us. Carol is a polymath of the first rank. Her amazing breakfasts held us in good stead the entire time we were there. We ate with the other guests--sometimes sharing a table--in their family dining room! Whilst cooking up innovative and astounding savory and sweet detectibles, Carol regaled us with stories about her life, her work, her relationship to horses, the wheeling and dealing required to get hay. We were also surrounded by her work--stunning oil portraits and bronze sculpture, for which she had rightly won awards. Carol and her husband knew we were hurting, and they pulled out all the stops to help us. They lent us their own, personal ebikes (which were so much fun to take on country roads, tooling around cranberry bogs, little ponds and abandoned farmsteads), Her cooking was phenomenal. She knew we loved animals but had none of our own, so she introduced us to their collie dog Price, with whom we quickly became BFF's in a neverending game of fetch, told us what foods her mini-pony (or was it a mini-donkey?) likes to be fed. And of course, there were other people and their beautiful steeds all around. Just being in the presence of so many happy critters and people had a very good effect on us; it was so needed. The property begins at the highway, off which a short, paved driveway leads to and terminates behind the main house, where the owners live and some of the rooms are. Then, a dirt road goes straight back (west) about a mile--all the way to the sea--passing by a beautiful barn, stalls, campsites, forest, meadows, a pond and other bucolic scenes on the way. Strolling the road on the property (and biking on it) was one of my favorite things to do there. If you ever pined for things (and people) with a personal touch, if you ever just wanted to drop out of the game and NOT be treated like a number, a walking phat money bag with a dollar sign over your head, if you miss interacting like a regular human with other regular humans, if you ever needed some puppy time but had no puppy of your own, if you ever wanted to feel safe, breathe in serenity like it floated in the ethers, if you ever just wanted a really damn good breakfast...Ocean Acres is THE place for you.

The guides always safety focused, friendly and very knowledgeable about the horses. I've had a nervous rider kid who finally was able to brave it this year and rode. The guides seemed mildly stressed prior to our ride, stating the horses on the ride before had been nippy and excitable. While riding I had such a rude experience and interaction with (self identified youngest guide) Lanelle. She turned around and snapped at my kids for the horses trotting to catch up, saying one of my kids turned around and said mom look! (She have lifted her feet up thinking that may be horse speed up). The way that she spoke to me (and them) was rude, dismissive, and judgmental.. not allowing for any input on my part without her, assuming the worst and communicating it as such. And one point she started trying to tell me that it was a liability issue (which I get) and that these were old horses only up for gentle walks on the beach... again I understand both of those things. We are not continuously trotting, and if she had approached me to actually have a conversation, they're probably should've been some effective communication had back and forth. when I told her that she way she was speaking to me was rude, and she didn't need to be quite so anal in the way that she was communicating... understanding safety is important but what she was harping on it wasn't even applicable or appropriate and we could've had a civilized conversation about what was actually occurring. Instead, it seemed like she was more interested in being right instead of actually having a conversation. She had already made her mind up.... Myself and the kids were fault she's just going to make sure that I was aware. She started commenting on my parenting stating that probably wasn't a very good parent if that's the way I spoke. Regardless of the fact, none of my kids were near us for this conversation... if that's what you can call the way she verbally attacked me. I was floored by the manor in which she spoke to me. Understanding that safety is a priority however, she obviously seems like she is not adult enough to communicate with other grown adults... respectfully while also communicating. Then finding out she was telling my kids. But they didn't know what they were talking about in respect to the hotel we were staying at and how long it had been in the community... stating " well I grew up here, and live here so I know everything around here. You guys must be mistaken on the name or it must be brand new." I don't think that she should be leading any more rides, unless she has some serious education in how to communicate to other human beings without coming off condescending, dismissive, and disrespectfully. I am going to seriously consider which company I'm using in the future based on this interaction. That being said, I didn't have the opportunity to speak with one of the guides who communicated effectively with respect, Talia... if we come back for any reason in the future, it will be because of the interaction I had with her afterwards. Stating that while she didn't witness what occurred it sounds like the other guide Lanelle is in need of some education on how we should be communicating, even if the information is being communicated is important and safety related. Most importantly that she should not be commenting with other peoples parenting in such a rude judgmental manner. Especially when it doesn't even seem like she can communicate simple things without being rude.
