Have been to most veterinary care places in the Morgan Hill to Gilroy areas and can say, hands down, this is the best vet we've worked with here. They are open weekends, which was handy with a recent Sunday emergency. The DVM gave a thorough exam to our 7-year old female dog and determined that the issue was not a urinary tract infection, but instead an infected uterus. Odd, since the dog was adopted from the Santa Clara County SPCA years ago and the DVM for San Martin SPCA spade her as a pup. Turns out, the SPCA completely botched the surgery and her uterus, uterine horns and even the ovaries were still in place (per the surgeon that emergency operated on her, and confirmed with biopsy results). I think most vets would have missed it being a uterus infection in a spayed dog, but this doc nailed it and saved our pet. Their follow up has been exceptional, with occasional calls to check up on things, appreciated. Fees were reasonable, unlike most vet clinics we've been to. They really seem to care about their patients and families, do excellent work, are available on weekends, and charge normal fair fees. read more

The vets and their staff are incredibly kind. We took our two cats for an initial exam after had moved to the area and we were so impressed. The vet who met with us was so good with our nervous, skittish babies, and gave a thorough exam, answered our questions, provided recommendations for health and nutrition - all while we sat in the exam room. May seem like usual practices, but we have found that it's often a rushed appointment and a quick exam, but not here. She was patient, fun and friendly and put all of us at ease! We are so happy to have found them (thanks to a recommendation by our neighbor!). read more

We have been bringing our dog to Dr. Kayashima and her staff at Orchard for the last 5 years. From annual vaccines to a bout of giardia to neutering to us just being nervous pet parents worried about little things that turned out to be nothing ... everyone here is always so friendly and welcoming when we walk in. They are professional and experienced and accomodating. Other vets would have probably fired us as patients after he first snapped at them, but Dr. K continues to work with us. Our big dog is reactive and anxious, so he now requires chill pills prior to his appointments, a muzzle, and even sedation injections to knock him out to keep the staff safe during his exams. Given all that history, they continue to provide excellent care to keep my pet healthy. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you all so much for your patience with Desmond (and with me and my husband). Thank you for helping us safely get him back into the car after receiving the strong drugs. Thank you for easing our minds whenever we had a (now seemingly silly) concern. Had to take my cat in for an appointment and got to see Dr Samantha Mehling. She is an amazing and super caring vet, that goes above and beyond!! She really went over my elder boy with a fine-toothed comb! Did extra service of unclogging an anal gland (that had firmed up), and found a tiny zit on his chin. Gave him 2 shots and a pill herself, with precision! (Not easy to give a cat pills) Then gave my boy a kiss on the head! She is great! Amazing service and super caring! 5+++ stars! read more

I'm not sure if it's Costco or the Vet, but they will no longer call in RX to the pharmacy at Costco. I lost my dogs flee Prescription and it's not simple to just pick another one up. I wanted them to call it in in the first place because we were headed out of town after our vet visit. Now I've been sitting in the parking lot waiting to see if they will issue another RX for flee pills. I'm not selling them on the black market, it shouldn't be this challenging. I took my kitty into Orchard Vet for a simple neutering. I was told it would be a simple snip. Well, a few hours later the vet called and said this " the hemostat was unable to hold the testicle so it went back inside which she then had to go through his abdomen in order to retrieve it, witha very nonchalant attitude. This is a simple proceedure that a professional should not have a problem doing. I wonder how proficient these vets are. I will never take my kitty back to them.. Beware! read more

WORST EXPERIENCE! We have had our share of veterinarians being a military family and moving constantly. We have loved all our vets until this one. The sad thing is that other veterinarians around the area are booked, so you are sort of left going here. I brought my pomeranian here three months ago for an annual wellness checkup as a new patient. Last week, I called for vaccinations and the person I spoke with over the phone said, "Alright, we will see you for Grizzly's vaccinations". So I assumed he was just getting his vaccines, then the day of the appointment the front desk person checks us in and tells me about the vaccines he will be getting today and that's it. I agreed, she took my dog's weight and temperature and then placed us in the exam room, which for me was odd as our vets in the past usually took our pup to the back for his vaccines. The vet comes in and I kid you not but spends 3 minutes in the room with us, DOES NOT PERFORM A WELLNESS CHECKUP, she looked at his mouth and THAT'S IT. Then administered the shots and left. When checking out, our bill seemed ridiculously high for just vaccines!! I ask for a copy of my receipt, and come to find out that they charged us for a wellness check-up!!! I have never had to have a wellness check-up done without my consent or if it isn't due for his annual. The most frustrating part of all this was the lack of communication and transparency. The technician and vet failed to communicate the need for a wellness checkup in order to receive vaccines, which was not even performed but was still charged for. When I spoke with the Vet about my frustrations, she said I am sorry but we are not a "shot clinic" like Petco or PetSmart assuming I go there (nothing wrong with Petco BTW). But she was speculating and saying, "Well sorry we are not like the "ENVIRONMENTS" you are used to" WTH? This is Dr. K btw!!! Dr. K admitted to poor miscommunication but would not budge on honoring back the wellness check-up that she didn't even perform. They charged me for a service I never consented to and preferred losing a customer over money. So yeah, you can see where their priorities are. SERIOUSLY STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, THEY ARE RUDE AND MAKE BIASED ASSUMPTIONS, AND ARE DISHONEST. If I could I would give a zero star. The person that helped us outside was so rude when we asked to know further more of what was actually going on with our dog. They told us that it was just back pain and wanted to sent us home with medication, and when we asked to know what was his diagnosis they basically yelled that it was just back pain, ("like any human has") and sent us on our way. Our dog ended up passing away the next day, they could have been genuine and nice and tried to actually find a diagnosis, with an x-ray, or ultrasound but they gave us neither of the options. I would most definitely recommend not going here. And to top it off they just gave our dog a "medication" when he was showing symptoms of not feeling well, and told us that there was nothing wrong when there really was. read more

This is an update on Juju, the kitty on the front page that was dying from a result of the vet mislabeling his medicine. Sadly he passed away. We were told that he could have lived a long healthy life if the Orchard woman vet had treated him correctly. And her attitude was so flippant about her mistake, which she tried to blame on everyone else until I gave her proof that it was her. She acted like he was a 'thing' that she made a mistake with. It was like, "Bring him back and we'll see what we can do." Like I'd ever let her touch one of my babies again. I don't know where they are finding people to give them 5 stars. I find it impossible to believe that they are 'real' people. I wish we could prove that they are bogus people. Did you notice that there are no 3 stars. So far I have really enjoyed my experience here. My new puppy has began its regular routine of shots and check ups and has been doing great. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I am very pleased with this veterinarian office. I live in Hollister and was unable to fund an office in town to treat my little pooch Chuy from a puncture wound he got from another big dog. Orchard Vet had an appointment available to see him the same day. Thank goodness we brought him in. He ended up needed sutures on one of the wounds. Dr Sera and all the staff were wonderful taking care of my doggie. I will definitely be taking Chuy there from now on. read more

A week ago we had brought our dog in for an emergency. Princevalle was booked but Orchard had room for a walk-in appointment that day. Shortness of breath, constipation, bloat, too weak to walk-- I had assumed he had a case of canine bloat. This had begun short of few weeks ago but had been quickly progressing. The vet takes a look at him and after an ultrasound, finds he has a lot of fluid surrounding his abdominal organs or stomach. She explains it is most likely due to heart failure. Not even 15-20 minutes into the appointment she tells us she will be right back with an $ estimate. Comes back with a treatment plan that costs nearly 500 dollars. She prescribed some diuretics for him which would help him get rid of the fluid in his stomach. 500 dollars for a bottle of diuretic pills, enough to last us nearly a month, or "until our next visit". The vet did not seemed too alarmed by his condition and so I hoped the diuretics must be a big step towards his good health. So for a week we had him on the diuretics which seemed to not have any effect on him at all. The amount of pee seemed to correspond with the amount of water he was drinking and the bloat did not go away. He was getting weaker by the day and his body was under too much stress and fatigue so we had scheduled him for an emergency appointment to be put down here at Orchard. His body goes into shock hours before our appointment and so we rush to the clinic and on the way there he passes away. We leave him with the clinic. In the patient room the vet says sorry and begins to explains that there are 2 types of heart failure. The one my dog had (congestive heart failure) advances quick and is hard for most dogs to overcome. Wouldn't I have loved to known before hand. Instead false hope: suckered into spending 500 dollars on a treatment that did not last us any more than one week... For someone who is around animals, both sick and healthy, everyday they should have good enough judgement to know a sick animal when they see one. Not everyone is skilled enough to diagnose their animals conditions let alone provide the proper treatment for them-- so we go to the vet. My mistake here is going to a vet who does not seem to care enough nor take the health of pets seriously. You know your pet better than anyone and if you go into the clinic and you tell them this is an emergency, you would expect the vet to treat it like one or at least address your concerns. The vet seemed more interested in the cost of treatment than getting my dog to better health. The biggest joke was the vet prescribing him diuretics after seeing him in bad condition. Enough diuretics to last us a month or "until our next visit". As if he could make it that long in his condition, especially after explaining that he had begun having shortness of breath, constant bloat, and weakness. Then having gone back the second time after he had just passed, to be informed that most dogs with his condition do not last very long. If that is the case, what competent vet would have planned a month long treatment (of diuretics) for a condition that serious. The vet seems very shady and incompetent. A lot of misinformation, confusion, and heartache was all I got by taking my dog here. All they care about is money! and I mean, when it comes to my dog, money is not the issue! as long as I feel my dog is receiving the proper care towards better health. If you're going to charge that much, do your job, at least show a little bit of interest. My dog had a long and good life. It brings peace of mind to know he doesn't have to suffer any longer. What stresses me out more than his death is that a practice like this exists. And if one yelp review is all it takes to save someone the heartache and stress and maybe even their pet's life, then there is a little bit of justice here. 0 Stars. read more

I really did not care for how the vet and staff members treated my dog. I decided to make an emergency appointment for my 1 year old Maltese after he began having episodes of diarrhea. I was fortunate that they had an open appointment the same day. When I arrived to the veterinarian's office all the staff members persistently called my Maltese a girl. It's something I'm used to, but it became annoying after repeatedly stating that my Maltese was a boy. Once in the patient room, the veterinarian came in, asked what was wrong, and prescribed medication. The vet did not examine, let alone touch my dog at all. I was shocked by the vet's answer that "sometimes dogs have diarrhea." In preparation, I even brought in a stool sample and requested lab work done. The vet said they would send it out. A week went by and I received a phone call. The staff member asked how my cat was doing. I told her that I had a dog and what his name was. Again, they referred to my dog as a female. I asked about the lab results, and she did not have record of any lab work ordered. read more

Additionally, Orchard Vet Hospital has an online pharmacy and the ease of ordering medicine for our pets is easy as 1,2,3. Our 11 year old Labrador, Rocko, has allergies as well as other ailments. We have seen over 5 other vets and Dr. Alexander has been the best. He recommended we buy natural preservative free dog food at Costco as well as recommended inexpensive treatments whereas other vets recommended expensive testing and other non relevant examinations. I feel other Veterinary clinics are after the money and will charge for irrelevant tests, etc. (i.e. VCA clinic on Monterrey road); however Orchard Veterinary Hospital truly cares for the well being of the pet and they do what's right and not what costs most. My two other dogs and black cat are also patients and happy healthy customers. Finally, my wife has also given this pet hospital a thumbs up and this is by far the best compliment since she is a tough cookie. I don't normally post reviews, but I know it is hard to find a vet you are happy (we switched after years of feeling like we just had "okay" service at our previous). I have been so overwhelmed by the level of care and follow-up for our cat, Skittles. Well beyond the attention to detail and compassion shown during our actual emergency visit Sat. first thing in the morning, have been answers to my (many!) emails and phone calls as things were so touch and go the past few days with her. Even today, they proactively called to check on how things are and again answered more questions I had on her and reviewed photos I sent to to let me know if her healing looked 'normal'. I can't say how much the reassurance has meant - especially after such a scary few days. This was not an isolated incident, albeit our most critical one - we have had excellent care each time we've gone. (I brought one of my dogs here last year when he was ill, and they gave him so much attention to detail and follow-up then too. Skittles' kittens had their first litter check a few weeks ago and same experience). I'd highly recommend Dr. K and her team. read more
