Probably my new favorite place to hike within a half hour of Buffalo. Decided to head here for some…read morefresh air during COVID and was really pleased with our choice. When we pulled in and saw a mostly full parking lot we got a bit concerned, but as soon as you're 5 minutes into the woods there's more open space and options than anywhere else I've been in the area. Based on my knowledge, the type of "hike" is most similar to what you'd find at Chestnut Ridge/Eternal Flame, but a bit less maintained/more natural. The atmosphere reminded me a lot of hiking and camping adventures in the southern tier. Some areas of the trails have a decent amount of gravel, but mostly it's just a woodsy trail with many branching paths. The areas between trails are relatively cleared out too so you can choose to do trails or just walk through the woods. There's lots of elevation change and ravines, depending on where you choose to walk, so that keeps things interesting (though a little tricky in areas that are both steep and muddy). The giant creek down at the bottom is beautiful, can definitely wade a bit and explore all the little pools. Definitely family friendly with all of the trail options, and our dog was really happy to walk through the woods with us. We only spent about an hour and a half to get home in time for dinner, but now that I have a better idea of the scope of things I'm excited to go back for a whole day and do lots of woodsy exploring throughout the park. I also can't wait to visit during the different seasons to see how the scenery changes, I'm sure it'll be gorgeous and lush in a month or two!

My husband and I have joined the WNY Hiking Challenge this summer-fall season. We've been exploring…read moresome of the local parks/hiking trails that we haven't visited while living in WNY my entire life! This trail did not disappoint. It was a moderately challenging (meaning some extended periods of walking uphill) and about a 3-1/2 to 4 mile hike. The day we went it was not buggy but we did encounter some muddy areas. Great place to hike come fall when the leaves will be changing.

Wow, totally low-key obsessed with this little park! It's the summer of hiking, and I've been…read moretrying to explore as many little hidden gems, parks, and hiking trails as possible. This is a state park, located in Springville just a couple of miles from where the 219 ends. Scoby Dam Park is right down Scoby Hill Road, and at the Dead End is the entrance to the park. Be sure to park to the left of the Dead End sign, as the right side is private property. This place has a very short & sweet history lesson: the Scoby Dam plant was constructed in 1925, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Right at the parking lot you can get a pretty gorgeous view of the water streaming over the dam! There are tons of rocks below so it's tough to get closer to the water from there, but further down the path there are a few fairly steep, but manageable declines where you can get a closer view of the falls. The trail you'll follow (just through the gates) is partially still an access road, but once you follow it you'll discover some really nice scenery and foliage. All the way at the end you'll find yourself underneath the bridges that are Cascade Rd and the 219. Overall, you'll get some pretty breathtaking views here, and what's awesome about this place is the fact that you don't have to trail hard to find them! I would totally recommend this place for people who are just starting to get into hiking, or like an easy stroll. Totally worth a visit if you're heading to/through Chataqua County.

We were the only ones there so parking was easy. There are only about 4-5 actual parking spaces but…read morecars can also park along the right hand side of the road. The rocks in some area in the creek are tough so water shoes or crocs are recommended. There is a ton of flat spaces though once past the rocks and it's really awesome to just play there on the edge of it with the current pushing you along to the deeper side.
