Small dog park had minimal shade. Small area to run. Not worth the drive. The large dog area seemed much better

What is estimated time of this dog park opening?

Hi Sharon, The Bark Park will be open again in early May. Currently, Cellino Plumbing & HVAC are putting in an additional 500 feet of drainage for us (for free!). Once that… Read more

Love this place!! My…read moredog has a place in the city where she can walk around and explore off-leash. She is not very playful, and pretty shy/introverted, but the other dogs are usually friendly and we don't really have any issues. I'm kind of annoyed that they're doing construction at Lasalle park now. The barkyard wasn't perfect, it was essentially just a fenced in patch of grass with some benches, a water fountain and a few trees, but that's really all you need. I'm not sure how long it'll be closed for construction, but i hope it turns out well!! They currently have a temporary dog park nearby, but it kinda sucks. Anyways, the barkyard is (was) usually calm, quiet and clean. Grass was moderately maintained and people picked up their dog poop for the most part. I also love that its in the city, where there arent a lot of places for my dog to run around elsewhere. Yeah, 5 stars! Hopefully it opens up again soon!

The Barkyard is essentially functional for what it's meant to do: give you a place to run and…read moresocialize, respectively, your under- or over-thirty-pound dogs so that they go to sleep when you get home and you get some peace. Or maybe that's just me. There's a sort of airlock front entrance and then two large, fenced-in areas based upon the size of your dog. Water pumps are provided and the fencing is tall and well-maintained enough around the perimeter, so unless you have an insane climber or jumper, your pup should be securely contained. The groundskeepers do basically the bare minimum, so while the grass stays cut, some occasional filling in of the holes the dogs dig would be appreciated. Caveat emptor, and all that, lest you break an ankle. The extra bag station is often empty when it is not littered with used bags by people too stupid to follow instructions. The latter point is worth expanding. People at the Barkyard are typically cool, and you'll make friends with the other childless misfits you gravitate towards when you eschew human offspring. But there's the rub: there's no budget for a lifeguard here, so compliance with the rules is all voluntary, and at least 30% of the people there feel that they are at liberty to exempt themselves. You want to run your big dog on the little dog side because he's "gentle"? Sure--what could go wrong? You want to bring your unfixed akita and then ignore him while he gets in fights? Just dogs being dogs! This is all true of humans with human children as well, I suppose. In fact, I know, because people there break those rules, too, letting small children run around despite written instructions to the contrary, leaving you to have to make sure that your dog doesn't get too close to their precious angel darlings, the latter of whom are, of course, not supposed to be there. Short version: it's fun and free but you have to deal with illiterate or obstinate humans. I guess that's free stuff for you? Parking is usually abundant unless there's a lot of baseball going on at the adjacent diamonds. There's a portable outhouse. Bring a jacket if it's borderline--it's 5-10 degrees cooler, as the park is right on the river.

Harley (my pup) and I really like this dog park…read more The Park There are actually 2 fenced dog parks at Fireman's Park. One for small dogs and one for large dogs. Harley is in between size wise but so we go into the large dog park. (Its much bigger anyways). Both parks are very well kept. There was no garbage anywhere inside, they have a bunch of garbage bins so no one leaves their trash around. The fences are all in good repair so no pups are escaping. The grass both inside and outside the park is kept short which helps prevent ticks an other bugs which is very nice. Amenities There is a large water fountain for the dogs out front of the park so you don't need to worry about water. They also have buckets so you can bring water in. There is a holder for poop bags but it seems to always be empty. The parks also have a ton of benches and tables so you can sit an relax along the walking paths. The Dogs I know this isn't something the park can really control but I have found that the dogs/owners at this park are better behaved and more understanding then at some of the other parks in the area. We have only had one minor conflict between Harley and another dog and the owner was very apologetic and took care of the situation quickly. The only minor blip here is that sometimes people with really small dogs. (5-10lbs) will come into the large dog park and that could spell disaster. Harley and I will definitely be coming back here a lot more.

This is the largest dog park I have been to date. I could see this as being a blessing or curse…read moredepending on how vigilant people are about watching their dog(s). It has a lot of shaded areas, a first for me in the world of dog parks. There was a nice paved walking trail that made a loop, this was great to walk around with the dog to practice off-leash walking and also to have the dog explore other parts of the park. My only real complaint is that the little dog side is for dogs that are 10kg(22lbs) or less and the big dog side is everything else. That could put a pretty small dog on the big side. I think 13-15kg would be a better fit. My dog doesn't care if her play partners are big or small, but it might matter to some. The other dog owners weren't very talkative, which I am not used to. Usually people are super friendly. All in all, I will be back and I did really enjoy the park. I wish we had a similar one by me.
